I was just offered to update my Volla Phone to UT version 27. Where can I see what the changes are? And what is the corresponding OTA?

I had installed UT version 25 on july 21st, and I thought that was OTA-18, is that correct?

@s710 You're probably in the RC channel. The version number corresponds to the number of releases in that channel and I don't think Volla has that many releases in stable since we're still at OTA-18 and Volla is recent so it'll be lower than that. In any case, you can confirm if you're in OTA-18 in System settings > About > OS. If there's no OTA label there then you're either in RC or devel.

@kugiigi Oh I see, indeed I'm on the RC channel.

I switched to it like 3 weeks ago, but I was pretty sure I switched back to the stable branch.
And I have just checked now, it doesn't actually let me switch back to stable. When I select it in the options, it briefly says it's switching channels, but when I go back one page to the overview, it still says im on RC.
I also rebooted, still its saying RC.

Interestingly, after switching to stable (or not-so-much-switching to stable), the download of a new update began, which is labeled as "Version 5" and was about 470MB.
I'm pretty confused now and don't know what I should do. Should I reflash the device?

When you switch from the channel selector, an update should be shown in the updates page. You have to download and install that to actually switch channel. You can also use the UBports installer to reflash and go back to stable. Just make sure to uncheck the wipe option.

@s710 Ubuntu touch Version 5 is OTA-18 for the Volla. I'm on it.
You speak of changelog ? If it is, this can help : https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6478/ubuntu-touch-version-where-is-the-changelog/9

@kugiigi Okay I understand. Maybe the UI should make this more clear. Will install v5.

You're right and I think there is an open issue
Having to go back 2 times and then install the update is not straight forward for new users.
Updating the selected item on the previous screen is a first step.

To go further I don't see a good option. The least worse option is to display an information like "pending installation" but that's not a good solution IMHO.

That echoes my experience and that of a few others here. Downgrading from RC to Stable is a lottery that might or might not work. In my case it took six weeks and has deterred me from ever upgrading or testing an experimental channel again.

To be fair, it's not too complicated when you already know how it works and it's really not generally advisable to switch channels other than stable anyway. But it can be improved indeed. Actually, the updates page can use some love 😀 Maybe you guys are willing to improve them? 😁

I think some notification text or popup stating that installing the just appeared update must be done in order to switch channels should be sufficient.
