I haven't been able to find out if this is a known problem, so I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate. I don't know if this is device-specific. I have a Pixel 3a on the dev channel.

I've noticed that MMS and group texts (I'll abbreviate that GT here) are affected by the state of WiFi.

When I'm connected to WiFi, MMS and GT work fine.

When I don't have WiFi, I can MMS a photo but I cannot receive one. Also, I cannot send or receive GT, including when it is just simple text.

The error is a red exclamation mark with the text "Oops, there has been an error with the MMS system and this message could not be retrieved.".

Can anyone confirm this on their phone? When I'm away from wifi, such as when I'm away from home, I can't receive MMS and group texts. I just get that error message. Thank you.

@lsitongia MMS group text is not very reliable since the beginning of UT.
But fortunatly there is work in progress on UT regarding MMS see the pending work here:
