I thought it was a Waydroid issue but now I reproduce the issue without install Waydroid.
so it's like the probleme is in the rw on system for xiaomi redmi note 9S
so it's not a waydroid issue finaly

@phiibuntu What device are you using? That might help others with your question. It's a rare thing for me to RW the system or apt-upgrade.

It is NOT recommended to use apt to update your system.
It is also NOT recommended to put your system partition in RW without knowing what you do.

So my advice is to run the installer again and not do things you're not suppose to do 🙂
If you want to try waydroid, follow their install tutorial and it should be fine.
My advice also before following blindly a tutorial is to understand each step in order to be able to fix things in case there is a problem (it saved me several times).

Hope you'll get where you want without trouble.

@applee That's why I asked about WayDroid. Some of the original instructions involved rw and apt-upgrade I think certainly rw. So using that may well be part of the issue. @Phiibuntu as @AppLee says unless you know the risks and are experimenting for some odd reason you are best not to just try it.

You right I only ask if someone had resolved this kind of issue 🙂 I assume and factory re wipe my phone 🙂
But infortunatly I have lot of problems with UT in OTA 20

1/ Waydroid work fine on my phone, but then no UT app works after install it (because I think waydroid helper install it with rw system so I reproduce the issue in the same way without Install Waydroid to test it an try to understand why).
so only way to use waydroid on xiaomi redmi note 9S is to use only android app...so it seem using ubports was not really logical 🙂

2/ can't flash again my phone (error : Error: adb:preparesystemimage: Error: {"error":{"code":126,"cmd":"adb -P 5037 shell mkdir -p /cache/recovery"},"stderr":"error: Exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory") Only way to install it is to reflash mui official rom and then reflash it with ubports installer 🙂 I only can factory wipe to avoid all this things

As you see I work hard tu use UT 🙂 but I have a lot of problems (And Apologize for my bad english :))

@phiibuntu UT apps work for me on OP5 with WayDroid so yes maybe start from scratch and this time try WayDroid helper to install WayDroid. Think safety first 🙂 and don't worry about the English either it's fine.

I first try waydroid helper on fresh UT install, before looking for complexe solution (RW, apt upgrade etc.).
Every time UT app doesn't work.

Now I think system rw managed by waydroid helper make same issues that when I do
                    $ adb shell
                    $ sudo mount -o remount,rw /
                    without install waydroid.

So the problem is perhaps on the xiaomi model, or about UT installation, if it works fine on your phone.

@phiibuntu Ok, I have no solution for you right now, but I will move "Redmi Note 9 S" from "Fully functionality" to "Partial functionality" WayDroid device list.

                        Ok.
I ll re wipe my phone to use only UT app and wait next OTA to test again (with no rw or apt upgrade I promise 🙂 )

Edit: a clue perhaps, like when I make apt upgrade, the waydroid helper modify code pin screen of UT (really modernise it).
In fact I ask if waydroid helper doens't make itself and apt upgrade finally
because same causes produce same effects (I think lol)

That sounds like you installed/updated parts of the system that are not officially released yet ?!

There has been some work on the "code pin screen" a while ago but I can't remember it beeing officially released via any of the official channels : DEV/RC/Stable 🙂

                          My phones :

                          • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
                          • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
                          • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

                          P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)

@phiibuntu Because you are on the latest RC you are getting the next OTA-21 please read blog for info https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-news-1/post/ubuntu-touch-ota-21-call-for-testing-3796 the login pin number screen is nothing to do with WayDroid and is part of the normal update process.

Thanks for your time, finally I factory reset, and then I install waydroid without waydroid helper.
                              And it works.

I really think waydroid helper make apt-update AND apt-upgrade and complicate everything (it's my point of view ).

Then android app works UT app works. last thing (but not here) gps 🙂 if I solve that too I 'll make UT my only main phone 🙂

(Happy new year anyway 🙂 )

I only see that install Waydroid with waydroid helper make same problem that when I make apt update and apt-upgrade myself so I think that there's an apt-update AND apt-upgrade in waydroid helper script or something like that.

Maybe something has to do with the current channel.
But certainly there is some kind of side effect here, maybe from the specific device, from the channel or a combination of both...

Ok I understand. But after make an apt-get upgrade I have the same result than make install waydroid with waydroid-helper.

Even the code pin screen is changed. on my phone (on a fresh install )
                                      It's why I thought that.

I write here to alerte other Redmi note 9s user who would like install waydroid with waydroid helper it's not an intuitive result, I had to test, and reinstall several time to almost understand 🙂

@phiibuntu You dont need to do an app-upgrade !! This is not needed to install WayDroid it would only brake your system, this new pin login screen it norlmoly dont worry about that...

@phiibuntu If you move back to stable until the 5th of this month you will have the old code screen back. It does not matter what you update the system with if you are on RC or Devel you will get the new code screen.
If ypu want to find out what is causing your issue I would clean install stable then WayDroid helper and go from there. If no issue all good. Then try the same if you must using apt and see what happens on stable. Then do the exact same from a clean install of RC. Might pin point where things change but make sure you follw exactly the manual install insructions.

Now on a fresh reinstall I use waydroid without waydroid helper and it works normaly.

@phiibuntu Hello, im the dev of WaydroidHelper :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I want to clarify. Waydroid Helper only does apt update and you should NEVER EVER run apt upgrade on UbuntuTouch as this will most likely break your installation. Whatever causes your issue it is probably not related to WaydroidHelper
