Sounds like for now, phone functionality doesn't work. I think most people interested in UT are probably technical enough to use VoIP and a data plan as a workaround. So that's probably not a big deal. However, I can't seem to get a softphone to work my VoIP.ms account. Working on that next.

        Nexus 5
        Xperia X

In the US, yes. It's a problem for sure.

@777funk you can use T-Mobile or an MVNO and set it to "2G only" for a fully functioning phone in the USA. See https://forums.ubports.com/topic/8338

@777funk - currently the best phone for USA use would be OnePlus 5t, as it can receive calls via VoLTE, and you can still send calls on 2G with it on T-Mobile network.

              Best regards,
              Steve Berson

So that means under UT it is VoLTE capable also in EU, and in the rest of the world ?

That kind of "detail" is important to better spread to UT users.

For instance, at least, it should be mentionned in its device list page under "cellular" https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/cheeseburger/

Well I think it is more of a "huh no one knows why it works" situation: again UT can't make a call out in 4G / VoLTE even though incoming calls do get received. I think it is sort of in the "we won't really announce this as a feature because it is half workable and really needs looking at". But I don't own a OP5 so I will defer to what others think.

Ah ok, i understood wrong, as you made me believe calls were working all the ways.

@totalsonic I wish information like this was on the main status page for each phone. I purchased a Pixel 3a XL because it has all green check marks. I live in the USA and now have an unusable Ubuntu Touch. I'm uncertain as to whether or not using 2G in 2022 can be called "fully functional", but I'm finding it difficult to contemplate using this phone on a daily basis. Who should be messaged about maybe adding a note or perhaps a red X with VoLTE so that people know that all green check marks DOES NOT mean "fully functional"?

                            Hi @mdl
You'll agree that we cannot maintain such a list for each operator in every country.
The problem is that US American carriers dropped 3G, not that the hardware is not compatible with Ubuntu Touch.

I understand the need for a clear understanding of what can or cannot work.
But I also understand that as user I should make my own independent research.

Sorry you got deceived and hopefully VoLTE will be OK sooner than later.

No and VoLTE is not new tech it's been known for almost 5 years that 2G and 3G were being phased out in the US. Cambodia went totally to VoLTE in 2015. and many others have as well, just not the EU. An interesting link relating to the NEXUS 5 from 2014 https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2014/07/qualcomm-announces-first-large-scale-commercial-volte-launch-japan
