20.04 Volla Phone

I've upgraded my Volla from 16.04 to 20.04 with the installer. Here are my observations:
- Upgrade was easy and there were no problems with installing.
- With the first boot, the introduction/first start screen (Welcome to 20.04...) came up.
My first SIM-card is PIN-protected and the system doesn't ask for the PIN automatically anymore. Now I have to unlock the card manually from the indicators. The second card (without PIN) works fine.The System is asking for the PIN-Code automatically.- GPS is working with uNav.
- Calls (in/out) are working.
- WIFI is working.
- Cellular data is working (but only with SIM1).
- Flashlight is working. You can use the flashlight now with the app "uTorch", too.
- Automatic screen dimming is working.
- Camera is working (photo and video).
Hotspot can be activated, but the device which wants to use the hotspot doesn't get an IP-address.Hotspot is working.- Shutdown/Reboot from the indicator is working.
- Updates through WIFI are working.
- Battery-life seems to be like under Xenial.
- OSD (e.g. volume up/down) is working.
- Fingerprint is working.
I'll update this post if I realize any changes.
Update 26.12.2022: I've switched the phone to the 20.04 RC-channel and resetted the device using the "Erase & Reset All"-Option under system-settings.
Update 05.01.2023: I've switched to devel-channel.
Update 29.03.2023: I've made a fresh install of 20.04 stable OTA-1 via the installer with "wipe"-option
Update 01.08.2023: Update to OTA-2 via System-Settings -
@kristatos I didn't update to 20.04 yet. Thank you for your tests. What's about hotspot ? Very very useful for me : no update if it doesn't work

I'm using my Volla Phone as daily driver.
As such, also ringtone has to work. So I won't upgrade yet.
A lot of things already, so that's good!
Do you, by the way, also use Teleports and Axolotl messaging apps, and do they work on 20.04 already? -
@alter I can confirm TELEports is working well for me and has notifications. This is on Pixel 3a and OP5 so should work on all 20.04.

) . For now I use my E4.5 as my daily again (which I like much more because of the better size) and the Volla for testing.
I don't use Teleports or Axolotl, but as Lakotaubp already mentioned, even teleports should work already. -

You can test RNDIS (USB tethering) too using UTTT.

So far on Volla 22 I have no GPS, no hotspot and no location unfortunately.
Teleports, Pure Maps and Sapot don't start.
As this phone is my daily driver I will have to go back Xenial :disappointed_face: -

Brand new RC 1 focal is not RC 5X xenial.. In the last option 'beta', it is not a problem to use it as a daily driver.

@domubpkm RNDIS through UTTT works on Volla ?? I thought it was a dead button on every device

@grumpyoldbloke Suprised TELEports does not work, it does on my Focal OP5s and Pixel 3a. GPS took an hour for the first fix though. uNav should work. Weather app does not yet and no calendar sync

@lakotaubp I also had an issue with Teleports, on 20.04 RC (on Pixel 3a not Volla). I did the install with the installer without the wipe option.
To get a working Teleports I had to update with the openstore to the focal version which worked, but every time I turned off the device the old and not functional version was back, don't really understand why.
In the end I had to manually delete teleports (openstore couldn't delete it) and reinstall from fresh, now I have no problem.I had a similar issue with youtube web which was stuck on a blank page even though I was on the working version for focal. I also had to manually delete the app to reinstall and get a working version.
Otherwise pretty impressed with 20.04, big thanks to everyone involved, what an achievement !

@noelflantier Yes just thought of that. My OP5 and Pixel 3a are clean installs of 20.04. Just tried FP4 from update channels and getting same issues. Just about to install TELEports for Focal now.

@emphrath No, RNDIS worked for me on BQ E5 HD and nexus 5 (xenial both).
That said, you misread or misunderstood me: I said to test under 20.04 for the Volla, even if indeed it does not work with the Volla xenial.Edit : That said, I too forgot the fact that UTTT also had to be updated to focal for test this !!

@lakotaubp needs testing, but i'm afraid some of the more advanced features might need rewrite. but suspending apps and many of the settings options for the launcher or indicators as well as theme selection should work

@noelflantier I guess I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the things that currently aren't working once the hotspot is functioning again as it's the only thing I can't really live without.
I have to agree 100% with your last line though

@noelflantier they do have the same version number in the store, perhaps that is a bug that it does not differentiate the two on upgrade
