Easier said than done, I know 😉

Or maybe just press the power button twice?

I didn't find a dedicated general feature suggstions topic (If it exists, move this post, please. If not, create one, please.), so I post it here.

I am not sure if some ideas are patented and therefore not implemented into ubports.

        Kind regards

@laktosefreier What does other systems use? I'd avoid gestures that are easy to trigger accidentally especially since turning on the flashlight can also create heat on the device.

@kugiigi Two of the Motorola phones I've had use serveral acceleration gestures. For the flashlight it is two hacking motions. Two wrist twists opens the camera.

@lsitongia That would require some kind of pre-wake mode with permissions that the gyro sensor triggers with a specific motion. It might also need permission for camera without unlocking, since those two are usually linked.

The power button way should be easier to implement since the gyro sensor doesn't need to be active all the time, draining battery or worse, preventing deep sleep. Standby time is often an issue, I guess we should not wake the sleeping bear 😉

The people behind LineageOS solved this by pressing the power button for 2 seconds, not even activating the screen, therefore additionally saving that little bit of battery.

                Hi @laktosefreier

There is already a nice implementation to fast access the flashlight in Ubuntu Touch.
Why go to the trouble to change that?
The cost to benefit does not make it worth the effort.

Maybe someone obsessed with this topic may invest time to implement something but I doubt it will be helpful for a wider audience and I doubt it will ever be integrated officially as the work required to satisfy the requirement for it is improbable.

I found an app in the Open Store and installed it, pinned a shortcut to the bar.
What other fast access is there? I haven't found it yet.
The flashlight switch from the status bar Battery doesn't work.

Yes. It is not working. The app uTorch works, however.
There are a few little things that prevent me from using ubports as a daily driver.
I tried receiving files on it via Bluetooth, instead the Pixel turned into a Bluetooth speaker for the sending device 😄

@laktosefreier it was fixed on the FairPhone a few days ago, thought the same fix applied to all devices.

I had that as well, in time itll all come.

@laktosefreier You'll have to use the Bluetooth transfer app for that. Haven't tried in a long time though so not sure if it's still working. The reviews isn't promising 😅

I changed the update source to development and yes, it works 🤗 thanks
