UBports on Distrowatch
-
When you are down you can only go up. I am sure that if UBPorts keeps listening to its user base and implementing things we want, it will soon move from 307.
-
Hello @WLBI
May be you miss the fact that Ubports has a good start with already a trending of +61.
More days are necessary to see an impact on the "last month average" ranking. -
@libremax The user reviews are generally very positive too: a good advert for anyone interested in giving Touch a go.
-
@wlbi said in UBports now on Distrowatch:
@libremax
Hey wow, rank 307 out of 307. he heYou're looking at the wrong metric.
It is the highest ranking mobile distribution!
https://distrowatch.com/search.php?category=Mobile#simple
Rank 1 .... out of 1

Well, from my point of view, the UBports operating system is the best mobile operating system so far.
Good means, not having millions of apps, good means it's open source, no secrets and the best fact is the convergence.
Convercence is where all operatingsystems like to be. Windows, Android and Apple, they are all aiming to that destination.
Windows failed so far, but I am sure, it will not stop. Android is not a good desktop operating system at all.
What makes Android strong is the brutal marketing of Google. What makes Windows strong is the brutal marketing of Microsoft. What makes UBports strong is open source, privacy, no spying and perfect convergence.
I am sure it's on a good way for the world dominance
https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/1Let's go for rank 1 out of that 307...
-
Well it looks like we climbed up 62 steps on the leader this month.
Currently UBports is at rank 245 (13.02.2018). Pretty impressive despite that few people know the brand "UBports". -
UBports is today 122nd in four weeks ranking and could (should) integrate the top 100 in the remaining 9 days to finish his first period (of 4 weeks). Also noteworthy are the 17 reviews already received, most of which are of interest.
-
@libremax Climbing the ratings quite so quickly might create some much-needed attention: if developers see that there is significant interest in the platform, then surely they're more likely to pitch in...
-
Ubports is today at rank 104 over 6 months.
A few dozen more clicks should allow it to enter the top 100 and thus have a greater visibility. Also check out this URL in large numbers :

@libremax hmm that info at distrowatch is not as accurate as it should be. E.g. we aren't using
systemd
in xenial -
@advocatux Yes and the screenshot is obsolete, I had already notified that long time ago to Marketing Team. All information needs to be checked and corrected if necessary.
I don't know who can legitimately and effectively handle it... -
@libremax I'll ping the Marketing team to see if they can do something about it
-
Good news, today, 15 Dec 2018, UBports Ubuntu Touch enter, for the fisrt time, Distrowatch Top 100, at rank 99.
This is the default ranking displayed, so it is a step forward for better visibility.
-
Today UBports is still up and now ranked 92 (over 6 months).
You can also add your evaluation of UBports on Distrowatch; mine has just been published :
-
the first and still the only one mobile distribution ranked on Distrowatch ( distrowatch.com/search.php?category=Mobile#simple ),
-
distribution maintained and developed by a very dynamic and supportive growing community, accessible through a forum, Telegram groups in more than ten languages, Matrix, IRC,
-
four update channels (edge, dev, rc, stable) available at choice according to the level of stability and the frequency of update desired,
-
quality documentation for users and developers alike, which is growing rapidly and translated into about ten languages (docs.ubports.com),
-
OS and applications translated into dozens of languages. The number is growing rapidly and continuously thanks to the work of more than 100 contributors: everyone can participate! (translate.ubports.com),

and many more to discover (ubports.com)

No news of OTA-7 on Distrowatch so I send this email :
*Hello,
UBports OTA-7 is released since tuesday but no news on Distrowatch :https://ubports.com/fr_FR/blog/notre-blog-1/post/ubuntu-touch-ota-7-release-192
Thanks for your work*
-
Distrowatch answer : "We were aware of the release, but it comes too soon on the previous release for us to cover."
-
@libremax Seems a bit odd. We hit delivery targets for OTA and it's to soon to report. Maybe they only like even numbers XD
-
@Lakotaubp I guess they don't want to focus too much on distributions with frequent releases in their news but they should at least complete the distribution notice.
-
Looking at DistroWatch this morning, it seems that UBports has suddenly slipped out of the top 100 (it has been mid-80s for a long time) to a position of 115. I wonder if we might rally round and get it back in again.
-
@3arn0wl It was expected because Distrowatch did not publish any news about OTA-7 since "it comes too soon on the previous release for us to cover." (see above).
So we now know that 4 weeks is too short a time frame (OTA-7/OTA-6) and 6 weeks is enough (OTA-6/OTA-5) to qualify for a new on Distrowatch.
The release of new versions should take this into account.
