    • Are we forgetting the little bugs?

I write this in the hope that it does not offend anyone and that it is just taken as a question.

Are we forgetting the little bugs in the race to something greater? Each time I download and install a new update, I hope that one of the old bugs (legacy) ones are fixed, but they do not seem to be.

These are a few examples of the issues I know about, I am sure other people have more that they hope will be fixed with every release. One PlusOne double boot on startup, camera not zooming, having to spend 5 to 10 times turning on hotspot before it does come on, unable to increase system text size, browser not working, needing a computer phd to set up a vpn, the last system update install date changing every time you check for a new update and so on.

I know we are a community made up of users who do it for the love of it, like I use UT because I love it, but at the moment there is no way UT can be my daily phone.

Like I say I do. Other want to upset anyone with this post as I am so grateful that UT Is still alive, but we really need to look at some of the older bugs, that are still giving us pain.

    • RE: Default sudo password

@vandys I am always under the impression that no question is ever lame. If you are unsure about something, this is the place to ask it and no one should look down on you for taking the time to ask it. I ask loads of questions that more technical people may think are lame, but for me I do not understand it, so I ask 🙂

    • RE: OTA 3 suggestions: your wanted features

The above list I have added is on top of all the current outstanding bugs to be fixed. If the majority of them are not fixed, there is not much point thinking about new features, when the platform we are building on is not stable.

    • Increase text size or change colour

I have ported a OnePlus One over to UBPorts and on the whole it looks and feels great. However, I am finding that the text on the screen is either slightly too small or the colour does not make the wording stand out enough. On pages like Settings, I am finding myself having to squint a bit to see things. Is there any app or setting that I can use to either increase the text or change its colour from the grey to a darker shade or even black?

If you look at the other phones (Android & IOS) their text is generally slightly darker (even black sometimes) which make it easier to read.

I know some will say that it is OK as it is and that I may need glasses, but for me if I look at the Settings page the text size and colour do not make it easy to see. With the World Health Organisation estimating that 253 million people live with vision impairment and 217 million have moderate to severe vision impairment. This is a sector of the market that cannot be ignored, by just saying it is ok for the majority. WHO Stats

    • RE: Are we forgetting the little bugs?

@arubislander thanks for that, I was able to locate the item mentioned by @kristatos and remove it. I did not want to delete it straight away in case it all went wrong, so I moved it to another folder.

@Lakotaubp I can confirm that after moving the mentioned media database I have restarted my DPD a number of times (by shut down & restart) and each time it has booted up just once. Not I get past the two lots of scrolling dots, I get three lots and then the login screen. I will monitor this for some time and see how it goes, but initial tests are promising.

Is there any way we can get this fix/delete of corrupt media database in the next release to help all those that have this issue but may not of read this thread? Seems a nice quick and easy fox.

@kristatos you are a star for finding that out and adding it here. Like I say initial tests are very promising. Thank you so much for adding your fix here and helping me and all the others out who have this issue. Cracking work mate.

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch color theme

I have changed mine by going into Settings > Background and changing it to a darker theme. I do personally think that the UBPorts should move away from the Ubuntu colours. We should have something g clean, fresh and new of our own so people know that UBPorts is new and fresh.

    • RE: Welcome to the UBports community! Introduce yourself here!

My name is Phil and I go by the name of “Phil UK” which is strange as I currently live in Sydney. I am originally from the UK though. I have been using Ubuntu now for ages and was waiting for Ubuntu Touch since I heard about it. I have no time for Apple and only use Android, as there are very few viable options. I jumped on the Touch train and brought three M10 tablets (for all the family) and have a BQ E5. I use my tablets continually and love them. I used to use my E5 as my daily drive, but had network issues with it. The Internet would just drop every few minutes. I think this is more hardware related, but as yet I have not flushed it.

I am a professional software tester by day, but please do not let the affect your thinking of me lol. I will be looking to put the UBPorts image on one of my tablets very soon and look forward to helping take it forward. I was very active in raising bugs in Touch, ones that I personally feel could have helped the software move forward. On the whole I think we could make a good product, but believe that the foundations need to be sorted out before anything fancy is developed. This for me is sorting out the issues that some may class as minor, but do not give a good user experience.

    • Original devices

I was looking at the supported devices and I see that most of the original devices are not on the “Core List”. This includes the M10, E4.5, E5 and the Meizu Pro 4, the devices that originally came pre-installed with UT.

I can understand that UBPorts may wish to move away from the original UT installed devices and more to more powerful devices, but not core supporting them, I feel is incorrect. People like myself brought these original devices as they wanted something new, wanted to support Ubuntu or for whatever reason. Then when Ubuntu Touch development was stopped a new lifeline was given in the form of UBPorts. Only to find that these devices would only have security updates.

I personally like my M10, yes it is not the fasted and gosh it takes ages to charge, but it does what I want and I like to OS. To find that the original people buying these devices are no longer going to get new features, feels like a bit of a kick when we were already down.

Please let’s get these in core support.

    • RE: Vpn help

This is not a feature of the vpn provider, more the vpn software on the individual device. I have PIA and on my android devices I have it set (in the PIA software itself) to only allow Internet traffic when going through the vpn. I have been looking into vpn''s a bit on touch and do not believe that this feature is available yet.

Maybe this could be one of the OTA3 feature requests. Either way I would raise it as a feature request in girhub. That way it is recorded and toy can see the progress.

    • RE: Compatibility or not as a development priority?

This is a tricky one and I totally agree with 99% of the posts. However, I do believe that the core apps should be minimal and native, (with native being the main word here). Yes, there is a need for Anbox, but let’s keep that for the people who want to download it and run their Android apps. Just like “Wine” is in the Ubuntu desktop. We can talk about this all we want, but the fact of the matter is that people have come to expect certain apps and if we want this great os to get anywhere we need to also offer them, be it in a native format. We cannot get away from the fact that people both use and have the right to use what they want. The old chestnut “Whatsapp” being a being a prime example of this, my work use this all the time and there is no way of getting them to move to Telegram. So I too would have to carry two phones around, just so I can use a few apps that I need to on an Android phone. The one great thing about Ubuntu desktop is that you can get native apps for everything you would want to do in Windows and often they are far better. We need to get to that situation.

@kristatos what can I say, you are a star, that idea worked and I was able to determine that I had a bad media file in my videos > com.ubuntu.camera folder. I added a text file there saying ".nomedia" and rebooted a number of times. Each time I did not get the double boot issue on either start-up of shut down.

I have no idea, but from what you are saying "I've looked at my E4.5 and it seems that this DB is build at every boot again" this is what is happening, but you think the input to this may be broken?

By any chance, you do not know what files go to make this up?

As an update I have noticed that most times I delete this db it will vome back. I think the fix has not worked when I get a double boot, only to find it back again.

I to have always found turning the hotspot on for my OPO a pain. Most of the time it can take up to 7 plus attempts from the settings. I hardly ever can get it to activate via the notifications bar. With the latest releases it dors seem to be getting better but still not perfect by a long shot.

    • RE: Google Contacts aren't syncing - Nexus 5 (OTA-5)

I had a similar issue a few days ago. What seemed to work for me was removing all contact groups in google contacts and then syncing. For me iy would show sync on my UT phone but all contacts with groups like friends and work were not on my phone, no matter how may times I tried. So removing all groups and just havimg the default pushed them to my phone.
