all this evolving technology with all its pros and cons, is quite another world...

when someone uses hotspot or usb, to a desktop computer, lets say in tjis instance windows 10, is that then using the built in firewall in windows 10?

im afraid i will probably just open a can of worms in asking such a question

i use ubuntu 20 on a desktop is their a firewall i should add.

saying all this, i try not to leave wifi or mobile data on....i do a task then turn it off.

part of my philosophy of not being online 24/7...

so i am tentatively trying out UT and i really like it despite my problems with hotspotting and usb tethering neither currently working on my nexus 4..

for me having 1 of these working is crucial to my UT transistion. due to no home broadband and the modern flexibility this does allow.

perhaps i need a more modern phone with UT on...or maybe I can still get it to work.

by chance I recently picked up a samsung s4 with lineageos on.

this again was for me to compare and learn, which im still doing...
i do prefer UT but hotspoting works on the other...

so gping forward my question to those more experienced than me is..

if i was logging into online banking via these systems would you consider them trustworthy and secure?
as i still have an android 11 samsung a10, which system or all all as trustworthy as the other ? !

i understand the nexus4 will not be supported in the next iteration of UT system....is this right?

is that due soon?

if i used my UT phone with an old UT system on does this diminish security of the device...?

forgive my technical limited insights..but in this strange modern world, choosing a sensible device to use going forward interests me, because..

you become quite attached to these devices as ypu use them more

so ive changed the setting in the tweak tool to the above suggested..

and plugged a cable betwen UT and ubuntu on a desktop

on the desktop i now get a network icon

as though it is recognising the possibility of this usb connection

it continues to say

network connecting

but no more

and no internet via browser

just network connecting....

any ideas from here

just for reference, i plugged into windows machine

i am a new and intetested user of ubuntu touch on the Nexus 4.
i thought i would start out just to see how ubuntu touch is going and to be honest. im pretty impressed so far. well done all..

the thing that would really help me would be to get the hotspot working as i dont have home broadband.

the Nexus 4 has the latest updates and is latest version of the OS

it doesnt have an item called mobile hotspot as far as i can see and ive turned on sometjing called data roaming but tjis doesnt do it..

i have been able to surf the web on the phone with my sim and data...

is it possible? if so how....

as a side question, if it isnt possible what phone with ubuntu touch would support this...
