RE: UT support esim
I bought a fairphone 4 and wanted to install ubuntu on it as i did on fp2 a d 2 others with dual sim which i need. Fp4 has esim as second sim, so i would really like this feature.
Edit: for my current 2 providers i need their app to install the esim. So, that's a hurdle too...

RE: Halium 7.1 Test Channel
@flohack no prob, your work has a widespread collateral use anyway

RE: [HowTo] Update baseband & other firmware
@s3r0 i meant, the current firmware of my phone

RE: Fairphone 3+ vs Volla Phone vs ?????
Metoo, i would be interested in FP3(+) when my FP2 breaks

RE: [HowTo] Update baseband & other firmware
Where can i find the current firmware? Cos i already did an update in the past..
-
RE: Halium 7.1 Test Channel
@Flohack i am already in version 55, where can i follow the progress?
Is OTA 17 also included?
Something weird: i cannot power on the phone when charging. First, i have to pull the charger out.

RE: Halium 7.1 Test Channel
Installed on my fp2 via halium-dev channel. Worked. At first sight everything exept camera seems working. But faster.
[edit 1: if i switch off rotation lock, then screen stays locked. In my case in portrait modus. But after a couple of restarts it works again. After update 33 it happens again]
[edit 2: after restart UT didn't ask for password of first SIM-card, but only for the second. The first SIM also stayed invisible in the menus. After the 4th restart it worked again.]
[edit 3: If I push the on-button while the machine is offline charging, the charging percentage is displayed in green nerdy fontface text (charging ??-100%" if i remember well) instead of the battery image.]
[edit 4: the phone does not turn on when pushing power button while charging.]
[edit 5: image during update differs from before]

RE: CardDav (contacts) support
@kalle-kruse said in CardDav (contacts) support:
@mardy Thanks for the reply. I am using an Owncloud server in my home network and got syncevolution on my ubuntuphone working as described in this blog post: http://notyetthere.org/syncing-ubuntu-touch-with-owncloud-or-any-carddav-server/
I also got syncevolution working, previously with Owncloud, currently with Synology's built-in carddav and caldav server.
This is not user-friendly, because i had to manually type all syncevolution configuration codes via Terminal on my ub phone :s
Adding generic caldav accounts is fixed in Calendar app now, but adding generic carddav accounts would be great
I can help with translations. Testing is possible, but it's also my daily driver, so it mustn't break anything serious..

RE: No Caldav synchronization of a freshly connected calender after reboot
@karstong i also have fp2 with ota-8, but no problems with caldav sync after reboot...

RE: Future Touch
@Flohack exactly. Open Source projects don't have to sell. The collective energy of the community determines the direction of the project. As the energy is continuesly changing and the members of the community have different interests over time, the shared story of the open project is also fluïd and continously adapting to its community dynamics. Its important that the current project story is told so the community is keeping itself vital and productive.

RE: Observations on battery life - please share your experiences
@jezek said in Observations on battery life - please share your experiences:
As I wrote in another thread:
I have the same experience on FP2 with OTA3 (15.04).
If wifi is on, there is a huge battery drain (~36% in 12 hours).
If wifi is off, the battery drain is much lower (~6% in 12 hours). So, on FP2 (OTA3) with minimum usage and
- wifi off - something above a week (~ 7 days)
- wifi on - something above one day (~ 1 day)
Note: I was a while on OTA5, the battery drain was like on OTA3
Note2: Mobile data offOn my previous BQE5HD with original Canonical UT, the operational time with wifi on (and mobile data on) was about 4-5 days.
Edit: typos
Edit2: updated details on mobile dataSame experience with my FP2

RE: Future Touch
@UmaGellan
the main difference of UT compared to others is that it's open source. That's also its unique selling point. If you want something without a business model behind it, you choose open source.A business can have nice values and beautiful products, but a business is meant to be a money maker. To pay salaries and create income. Open Source communities are gathered around values and not for profit.
Products engineered, maintained and created by communities of users, designers and makers are better products in many ways. Knowledge and experience of all stakeholders are inherently included. The open structure makes it flexible and rapidly adaptable to user-whishes and ever-changing cultures.
If something is the story of UT, its open source character must be the story.

RE: [HowTo] Update baseband & other firmware
@flohack thnks
[edit] Update worked flawlessly. I had to change usb-port, because fastboot gave a message: waiting for any device... Changing usb-port worked. My experience so far: no significant improvement. phone still reboots
- if typing a text takes a while (half an hour) in browser, signal, sms, etc.
- after a while if to many apps are used simultaneously.
- Also, sometimes (a couple of times in a month) I find my phone rebooted in the morning.
Don't know if this is FP2-behaviour.
Now, I used the update package as given by @flohack. @Ingo said above that "The most recent real change was included in the April 2018 update." So I expect no improvement from using another more current update package.

RE: [HowTo] Update baseband & other firmware
@flohack nice work! I got the OTA-7 update now. Again a more stable and faster FP2!
Is a firmware update included in this and/or previous OTA updates, or is it still worth it to flash new firmware manually and follow this howto?
