    • RE: Programming language for Ubuntu Touch apps

@cibersheep said in Programming language for Ubuntu Touch apps:

It doesn't have to, it may be mixed. Qml is like html. But it has build-in js support for logic (it has its limitations)

For example, you want to remove a file in an app cache folder: you have to do it with a backend language.

I meant it has to be mixed in order to make something that is actually useful, it would be hard to make a functional Ubuntu Touch application with just with QML, or am I wrong?

    • RE: Programming language for Ubuntu Touch apps

All the answers are very helpful! Highly
      appreciate it!

      To clarify everything:
Qt is a toolkit for creating UI, other words, Qt is responsible for creating frontend - the part that user interacts with.
      Yes/no

Qt uses a language called QML.
      Yes/no

QML has to be "mixed" with other language, as author concludes - for backend purposes (?) - such as:

      1. Ftnirp lists:
        C++/Python/HTML/Go/Rust
      2. Vitellius lists:
        JS (default)/C++/Python/Go/Rust
      3. AppLee lists
C++/Python/HTML/Go/Rust AND C/Shell but more difficult to bind to the QML

      yes/no

      Additional question:
Since the lists provide a bit different data - is JS one of the default options or not?

    • Programming language for Ubuntu Touch apps

I am super curious, not probably ever going to develop an app, but I fail to understand something.
As I understand "Qt" is an application that makes making Ubuntu Touch apps easier.
      But!
What language should be used to make Ubuntu Touch apps? Is it Java or..?

Is it possible to use custom DNS on Ubuntu Touch - and if yes - how? Not talking about VPN.

    • How safe is UT from trackers?

      Hi!

I am currently using Android, that I would like to escape from due to trackers.

I know that internet trackers can be divided into:
-www trackers - they send an information to a website about me visiting a specific place
-app trackers - they send an information to a specific company about app being used on a specific phone
-OS trackers (?) - its DNS are forwarded through google.

On the other hand - there is Ubuntu Touch!

      2 questions:

      1. Is my "trackers" clasification more or less correct?
      2. Is Ubuntu Touch is safer from trackers and if yes - how?

      Thank you..

    • Ubuntu Touch - questions about apps

      Good morning!

I am very interested in using Ubuntu Touch (I think my name gives that away).
I hope I will get vital informations at this forum. Please, no matter how difficult my questions are - don't be mad at me!

I am a regular user, but the reason I started thinking about Ubuntu Touch is because I understood as escape from Google-based Android.
What do I need my phone for? Mostly, for the following:

      • Uber
      • Messaging (WhatsApp/Telegram)
      • YouTube player
      • Camera

      Questions about safety/privacy:

      1. Is my understanding correct that Ubuntu Touch is "Google-free in terms of its background services etc?
      2. Does Ubuntu Touch have included phone call recording application OR do developers plan to release such app OR is there any way to record phone calls?
I know that this has been already mentioned e.g. here
        https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/788
is there any way I could help the community in developing such app? Its very, very much needed by me!

      Questions about compatibility:

      1. My phone is not listed here https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/. Can I still install this OS or I must buy one of those phones?

      Questions about apps:
I might need to use SOME android-only apps once in a while, so:

      1. Is it possible to run Android apps on Ubuntu Touch?
      2. Is it possible to install Android OS along Ubuntu Touch and choose the OS in startup menu?

      Other questions about apps:

      1. I see that Uber app is not available at https://open-store.io - is it planned to be developed?

.. help highly appreciated, but I will also accept criticism!
