@amc400 All those things work on mine. There is an issue with video stored on the device playing back, but there is a solution for it in the forums.
Battery life on the N5 was never great. Get the Polar Cell D820/821 Nexus5 battery replacement for the longest run time.
-
@amc400 The N5 cannot do VoLTE nor CDMA, so carriers that require it are out - important in the U.S. market.
-
@amc400 Switching from camera picture to camera video mode gives a black screen. Workaround: suspend camera app and open it again. But as you mentionned, this is considered as a minor bug will not affect the Nexus 5 as daily driver.

Actually since OTA12, battery life on my N5 has improved a lot.
Before I could last at most 8h now it's up to 36 hours.Recently I had some battery leak, but nothing a reboot wouldn't solve or simply waiting.
Charging once a day is enough with my usage. -

Yes. So far as I know, AT&T stopped provisioning 3G voice for new activations back in February (fortunately my spare SIM was activated long before) and will shut down 3G voice in late 2021 or early 2022.
Verizon are shutting off 3G (CDMA) voice in December of 2020, and Sprint prior to the T-Mobile takeover had planned to shut down CDMA voice in January of 2023.
Of the major US carriers, only T-Mobile have not announced a date for 3G shutdown, but T-Mobile don't have the best track record of keeping their customers informed with much lead time.

-
@AppLee I had noticed that it seemed to be lasting longer. But, not an essential worker, so haven't been out and about with it lately.
Can't put my finger on why, but on OTA-12, it's smoother than it has ever been. All in all a very pleasing experience to use.
-
@trainailleur T-mobile has accelerated that timeframe - 2021 from what I last read.
I want to make clear for those considering the Nexus 5, that the phone will still work as an LTE data device after those cut-offs, and phone calls can still be made using Voip, Google Voice, etc., if your carrier is VoLTE only. There are many regional carriers that do not plan to go VoLTE only, so you should have some traditional phone call service if you live in a larger metro area. But rural folks will likely have to rely on a Voip service for making phone calls.
There is a Voip app in the openstore, but it seems unfinished.
-
@rocket2nfinity Cool, My carrier doesn't support VoLTE nor CDMA, only GSM, It's decided than, thanks for the battery advice.

Recently I had some battery leak, but nothing a reboot wouldn't solve or simply waiting.Wut?! What configuration options do you have? I've tweaked my governor to be conservative, but even then I last less than 10 hours. What apps are you using? As far as I can tell, dekko is my biggest power consumer...
-
@enrolado
I use dekko with an email address with few message per day.
And I don't use too much data otherwise. I'm calling once a day at most and few texts or messages using Teleports.
No tweak done and mostly connected to wifi but also 4G with good signal strength. -
@amc400
From the link:
https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3614/lge-nexus-5-hammerhead
it says that there is:
"
Missing:
...
Audio on calls
"
Does it means you cannot make phone calls from Nexus 5? -
@Dnc7 It might be confusing, but if you well read the title, it's written: "This is an upgrade port for the Nexus 5 core device."
Current Hammerhead port is Halium 5.1 , which works perfectly well, including phone calls.
New port to Halium 7.1 is ongoing. The current stage indicates that audio in calls is not working.
Maybe @Flohack can give you a more recent update on this... -
Indeed please do not confuse things: The stable Nexus 5 on Legacy 5.1 porting is super-stable. This thread you mentioned is about an alpha stage build for upgrading to an Android 7.1 base. Its fairly unstable but will become better and better over time. However for daily use only use the installer-provided stable image.
