        HI all-

I have a Nexus 5 currently running Ubuntu Touch OTA-17. I saw the news about OTA-21 and thought i would see if the new version was available yet.

But i now also notice that there were other releases, OTA-18, -19, -20. I've never seen these in the updates dialog. So i'm wondering if i have something misconfigured or something. Software updates have gone well, but i've never seen it inform me of a new OTA.

I realize that OTA releases are not released to everyone at once, but shouldn't i be seeing earlier OTA releases? Where is OTA-19, -20, etc?

        Thanks!

        -Fizz

@fizz First check in System Settings, Updates what status auto update is on. Then check that all your apps are up dated first. Then you should get ota updates. The other way is System Settings, About, Check for updates.
If nothing happens you do have a wifi or data connection? At the worse you may have to rerun through the installer but lets see. Also read the OTS-21 release blog for another way to update. The link is in the News section of the Forum.

Same thing here with a BQ E5 and everything checked (applications up to date, WiFi active, etc ...). Previous updates (OTA-19 OTA-20) were detected and executed through the "About" page.
I read somewhere that the distribution is done randomly to not overload the servers. How does this work?

@pulsar33 Yes, afaik distribution is happening slowly as security mechanisms to avoid that all devices at once are affected in case of an issue.

If you want to run the update immediately none the less you can run this command over ssh or adb:

              sudo system-image-cli -v -p 0 --progress dots

@fizz To have missed three consecutive updates suggests you have a setting wrong. Perhaps Cellular Data or Flight Mode. I have just updated my Nexus 5 to OTA-21 so I know the process works.

Under System Settings, Updates, i see the system "checking for updates", and after a couple seconds, it tells me that Software is up to date. I completely updated all apps a few days ago (it still says my most recent update was Terminal, on January 5). Going through About, Check for Updates leads me to the same Updates page and it again tells me i am up to date.
I do have a wifi or data connection. Everything else about the mobile is working fine.

                    @cliffcoggin
I have been looking for a reason, but haven't found one yet. I'm not on cellular data or flight mode. Everything else about the mobile works fine. So i agree i might be missing something, but doesn't seem to be with the connection to the world.

Under Update Settings, i am on the Stable channel. I have auto download set to Never, but my understanding of this setting is that it will prompt me to download- it would still tell me an update is available. Indeed, i've updated several other apps.

I'm not in a rush to update, but since i've not seen the other updates, i'm worried i'll never see this update. If i have to do it via the command, i will, but it still feels like something is awry somewhere.

                      @fizz Are you 100% sure it's ota-17 and not stable update 17?

Under System Setting, About, it says the OS is: "Ubuntu 16.04 (OTA-17)".

And under OS Build Details it says the Build Description is "Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - armhf (20210504)".

The UBposrts image part is: "20210504-20388".

I can provide more if needed.

@fizz No that's seems fine. Just trying to work out why your not getting updates. What happens if you switch update channels to RC?

@fizz Just got out my Bq hd5 and mine also has an update of April last year9it's been living in a drawer) but found updates straight away. I think you are having a download problem. Have you tried rerunning through the installer?

When i switch to RC, it tells me the update available is "Ubuntu Touch Version 130", which is 428.6 MB in size.

@fizz Try installing that. If that works and is ok you should be able to switch back to Stable but RC is normally OK

                                  I'm wondering.
In the "about" page, I have 3 recent updates listed and if I ask the question, I am told that the software is up to date. But if I launch OpenStore, it tells me I have 4 applications to update ?!?

So I just did these updates from the OpenStore but the "about" page still tells me the same thing (the 3 apps that were updated some days ago, and no UT update available)

I just restarted the phone and it doesn't change anything. How is this possible ?

Is that the same version as OTA-21? Or will i go to that RC version first, and then update to OTA-21 afterwards?
Or would it be better to try the manual update method instead (using system-image-cli described above)?
Just looking for the method least likely to seriously mess things up. 🙂

@fizz If you do system image dots that will be OTA-21 the full details are in the blog https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-news-1/post/ubuntu-touch-ota-21-release-3798 Rc will give you OTA -21 as well for now. Next week it will update again and be in front.

I did the update through the RC channel. System Settings / About now says my OS is Ubuntu 16.04 (2021-W52).

Now that it's downloaded, when i look under Updates, i have "Ubuntu touch version 9" available on the stable channel.

But still not seeing anything that explicitely says OTA-21.

Do i have it, or is that version 9 the same thing?

                                        Thanks!

@lakotaubp Well, i've now switched back to the Stable channel and tried to download v9. It timed out several times, but i ultimately got it to complete. However, shortly after download it gives a signature error. So i'm not sure what's going on with that. Is it related to checksum or similar?
If the one from RC (2021-W52) is the same as WTA-21, i might just stick with it. But it'd be nice to figure out what's going on with this.

Unfortunately, this new version hasn't fixed my issues with MMS. I was really hoping for a fix for that.
