E4.5 display broken
-
Last night my beloved E4.5, bought in 2015, fell down and the display does not allow enter anything anymore. The system is up and running perfectly and I can enter via Wifi and SSH.
It seems that the company BQ.com is not in the market of cellphones anymore. Any idea about some repair company for BQ devices? Thanks

@guru
Don't know for any company with BQ parts, but did you try searching on common chinese electronical devices and part import sites ?Edit : i searched web quickly and got pings https://www.qwant.com/?client=opensearch&q=BQ+e4.5+screen&t=web

I watched a video in YT about the display swap and I do not see me that I could do this. Any pointers to a repair company in Germany or Europa?

Sad, my E5 I bought on 2015 also fell and has broken bottom. It's unusable now though I don't really use it anymore. Would have still been better if it still works though since I can still use it for testing and for the memories
Maybe you can buy a replacement screen and find a generic phone repair shop. Surprisingly these parts are still available out there. I was still able to replace my MX4's battery just last year. -
Keep in mind that the E4.5 will almost certainly fall out of support with the move to the Ubuntu 20.04 base, and adjust your strategy accordingly.
I'm sorry for your loss! -
Hi @guru ,
I also own a Bq Aquaris E4.5. This weekend I sat while having the phone on the back pocket of my trousers and the screen broke. For the second time Well the first one was not my fault
Anyway, the first time I bought the screen (the whole screen I mean, LCD and glass) from this store. It costs 15.73 € with taxes. If your purchase is higher than 15€ (without taxes), it is delivered to Spain and you buy it between 14:00 and 15:00 o’clock, there is no shipping cost. So I also bought a 128 MB SD card.
The provided link also shows a video were you can see how to replace the screen. I did it myself and it was not difficult at all. Just take out some screws, detaching some connectors, but no soldering and the like. Afterwards it worked perfectly, until this weekend …
Yesterday and today I was delivering what else to buy to save the shipping cost. Tomorrow I think I would buy another screen.
I think you can buy and replace it with the aid of the video.
Good luck.
@kugiigi maybe you can find spare parts for your device in the provided link. -
Otherwise, maybe as @kugiigi pointed out, a repair shop can do the purchase for you and replace it. You know the price of the screen so you can calculate the gain of the shop.
BQ was a popular brand in Spain for buying mid range phones manufactured in China, but after making a deal with a Vietnamese, I think, company to enter that market, they suddenly disappeared. They left no more sign or track. The first, and then the only, ubuntu phone manufacturer suddenly disappeared. -
@aimar Thanks. Some part of me does want to still savage it I mean it was my very first UT phone and actually the first phone I ever bought with my own money And it was also still usable especially for testing stuffs. I think mine has cracks in the body itself but let's see, maybe in the future
-
@guru keep in mind that this new screen has impressed the common android buttons on it, which are useless for us and makes the screen a bit uglier
-
@aimar Thank you for the link. In my case for my BQ E5 HD android that I flashed UT years ago, it's the power button that gives me trouble and responds badly: not easy to turn my BQ on or off. It is true that I hardly use it anymore except for tests or on wifi.
