Struggling with Telegram.

Well, a last one before you send the phone to an exorcist are you entering the phone number in the international format (+(country code)(city or carrier code)(your number))?

I am, @advocatux - and it's a number that I registered with Telegram just before I deleted the account, because I'd recently changed my sim.

I'm slightly worried that I might have deleted a telegram folder that I shouldn't have, on the assumption that the OS wouldn't have come with any Telegram folders... I can't remember whether it was in .config or .cache, but it was something like "Telegram World"... If I need that folder, how can I get it back?

@3arn0wl did you change the sim and kept the phone number? or you changed the phone number as well? If you changed it, which phone number are you using for registration? The old one or the new one?

Don't worry about the folders, I have deleted them several times without any problem. A fresh Telegram install should create all the things it needs.

Hi,

Trying to useTelegram client in Russia

1. installed

2. entered phone number - frozen at applying phone number

3. killed application and started again - frozen with white screen

4. found this thread and applied your advices, though in wrong order maybe
   restarted phone
   removed three folders (.cache/ ... and ./config/ ... com.ubuntu.telegram)
   removed application
   removed filders again
   restarted phone
   reinstalled application
   restarted phone
   started application

5. and again the same behaviour:
   entered phone number - frozen at applying phone number
   killed application and started again - frozen with white screen

I know this story about blocking Telegram in Russia. Actually I see it in the news all the week.

Any chance to start it ?
Is the client updated as all mainstream clients?

I don't think it has something to do with your problem but just for your information, telegram app development in UT is way far from upstream.

@3arn0wl I apologize for butting in on this, but have you tried swopping back to the stable channel and trying from there. I can vaguely remember having an issue with Telegram hanging at set up a long time back and that sorted it. I have no idea why or how. Also is the problem with the other web apps for Telegram in the app store or just the telegram for ubuntu phone one.
Sorry if you've already tried this but you never know : )

I once had the problem hanging after entering the phone number. I cant remember anymore what it was what I did wrong... But I think in my case it was (similar to what @advocatux already mentioned) the leading 0 in the phone number that I accidentally entered... Or something like that...

Meh! I got as far as entering the code they sent, again... It just hangs then.

Let's face it... Telegram just doesn't like me!

@3arn0wl I'm really out of ideas then. Are you using the same phone number than when you used that account? You had Telegram only in your phone, no?

I don't know what I've done, but it seems to be completely messed up, @advocatux. If the best brains of UBports are out of ideas, maybe I'll have to live without Telegram (or get a new sim card).

@3arn0wl Can you borrow someones android and recreate your account via that. Even better if they dont already have it on their phone.
Did you just delete the app or the whole telegram account.
Just woundering if you can set up on another phone to get a new account and user name then come back to ubports and you would know the account and phone details where sound.
I've just deleted telegram from another phone to run through the setup but as soon as I installed it again the account came back so that didn't help.
I've set up telegram before on one phone but using the details of another. So after entering the number 447--- whatever on phone A in the next step the code gets sent to phone B via sms and you can enter it in phone A. Before trying delete the app again from tor ubports phone restart it, re install Telegram.
I know you've tried most of this before so feel free to ignore this and shout very loudly ----. Off Telegram ; ) there must be an answer somewhere but I'm buggered where : )

Hi @lakota. I deleted the account because it wouldn't let me set a username for some reason: yes - I am bugged by Telegram. Can we all just move to Matrix?

What I'll probably do is get another sim card and try again with that. I don't know, but I can't believe it's a UT issue.

@3arn0wl No nor me. I've had no issues with the new app. But on occasion with the old web apps. If I can think of anything else I'll come back. I've even woundered if cleaning the sim card and port would help. But why would it. All the best on your quest.

@3arn0wl Hi @3arn0wl Telegram stopped working on my M10 yesterday, but it still works on my android phone. I've tried all the tricks suggested in this thread, but the installation always hangs. Sometimes I've got as far as being sent a code to enter, but after entering, it still hangs. Previously telegram was working fine on my tablet. Don't know why it died. Did you ever get it to work?
