I'm happy to announce that, after much anticipation, Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0 is scheduled to be released on 24 September 2025.

Currently, the schedule looks like this:

      Date Event
      31 July 2025 Platform stability freeze, 24.04-1.0 Beta 1
      14 August 2025 String freeze
      28 August 2025 Branch off, 24.04-1.0 Beta 2
      11 September 2025 Final freeze, 24.04-1.0 RC
      24 September 2025 Release version 24.04-1.0

(See the explanation of the freezes here: https://cpad.ubports.com/sheet/#/2/sheet/view/z44Rl7-Ba5mzHRYXXuk-9l8ZweVF-+v5X30JnZw7bPw/)

We're still a number of things left to do before we can release 24.04-1.0 to all users. However, at this point, we feel confident enough to define a finish line, especially given that Canonical has ended standard support for Ubuntu 20.04.

App developers: you'll soon be able to submit applications built against 24.04-1.x to OpenStore

As part of 24.04-1.0 Beta 1 release, we'll also declare ubuntu-touch-24.04-1.x Click frameworks as stable. Applications built against 24.04-1.x will be allowed to use APIs introduced in Qt 5.15, paving a way to Qt 6 migration in the future.

We're working to make sure apps built against 24.04-1.x can be published on OpenStore. This should happen by 31 July.

@peat_psuwit So the framework name ubuntu-touch-24.04-1.x is the final name and the x isn't some kind of a placeholder? I've been confused by this πŸ˜…

@kugiigi Yes, ubuntu-touch-24.04-1.x is the final name. It's intended to represent the entirety of Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0, 24.04-1.1, 24.04-1.2 etc.

I'm happy to announce that I have been using UT 24.04 for months and its amazing.

Kindle works in both Ubuntu and Waydroid.

Most banking apps work (which is merely a limitation of the banks, not UT).

            Internet is great.

Everything works already with the sole exception of copy and paste. The paste doesn't work yet.

Considering this has not been released yet - amazing.....

Are you saying that copy / paste doesn't work currently and is a noble bug (reported on gitlab) for all phones ?

@domubpkm I think they mean copy / pasting between waydroid and UT. Copy/paste between UT apps and the Lomiri DE works in noble.

@domubpkm hi, copy works, but paste doesn't come up as an option when you go to paste. This is in Waydroid. This does not refer to UT to Waydroid.

This happens whether in color note or internet browser. Im not a developer so cannot judge the cause.

@peat_psuwit OK. I give up. No joy here. Where do I set this 'ubuntu-touch-24.04-1.x'? Then, I guess I run 'clickable clean-images' after 'clickable update-images'?

So... has it been released? I haven't seen any news.

@haagch yes, I'm curious too. Yesterday I looked several times on the forum, on the device channel pages. But couldn't find anything. I'm still a newbie with UT so I don't know how a new version is released / communicated.

Well, "scheduled to be released x day" doesn't mean it will be for sure released that day πŸ˜…
Be sure y'all get some news about that πŸ™‚

PS : also, when an update is released, it doesn't reach all device the same time, so one can get it where another will get it the next day.

Within the post of the 20.04 OTA-10 announcement it's said, that it will be released on 25. September like 24.04-1.0. So maybe this initial post simply wasn't updated and the release is planned for today.
But like @Keneda said, scheduled doesn't mean that it will definitely be released.

                            BQ Aquaris E4.5 (UT 16.04)
                            Vollaphone (UT 24.04)
                            Vollaphone 22 (UT 24.04)

tl:dr: Held back until some boot failures are solved.

The framework is set in the clickable.yaml file
                                framework: ubuntu-touch-24.04-1.x

And the apparmor version in [yourprojectname].apparmor
                                "policy_version": 2404.1
And to update clickable use clickable update-images
Then you can remove unused images with clickable clean-images
