Did you know that Signal is available as a native Ubuntu Touch app?

Today an update was released for Signal which now has a passphrase-secured message storage which you can activate under the preferences.

Enjoy and thanks to Aaron Kimmig for the hard work on this.

But it still does not have notifications right? What unfortunately renders it virtually useless for me. 😕 Okay if you're a Hollywood director or good at polling... 😉

            Hello
Despite my google searchs, I can't make me sure that Signal allows real Video Calls (like Skype), wathever is the OS, and indeed mainly with UBports. Have you certainty about that, please ?
            Good evening

@pulsar33 AFAIK Signal doesn't support video calls yet.

There are two webapps at least that work perfectly fine if you need to make video calls:

              https://open-store.io/app/hublin.costales

Yes. Thank you very much Aaron Kimmig for providing Signal to UT and for consequent improvement. This is really great!

But also for me it is hard to rely on Signal and/ or matrix as long as there are no notifications

@pulsar33 the umatrix app from marius (The main hasn't merged it yet) has video call support.

Finally, I simply use gruveo.com in the web browser. This is enough for my needs (simple video calls from time to time) and doesn't require to install anything. It works nicely with my WiFi acces point.

@hummlbach Still we got no answer from OpenWhisper. They are not really willing to cooperate with us, it seems.

@kalle-kruse : Does meet.jit.si work in your UBPorts web browser? I get the error message that this browser is not supported.

@gt It loaded on my N5, but when I typed something in the box, it went to another page which said that I needed "the Jitsi Meet mobile app to join this meeting" on my phone.

You might try appear.in, that should work on the phone for video conference calls.

Actually there IS a way: text messages are “SMS” in the GSM (“3GSM” organization) real wording. And Apple made it compatible within Apple “Messages”: you can get and send your SMS if you’re connected via any other IP (Internet) way: ethernet, wifi, bluetooth, etc. Photomath TextNow Bluestacks

@lakota I'm concerned about Signal as I've seemingly had problems were the message were apparently not sent or popped up on my wife's phone hours after being sent. This was while using Android version. Has anyone noticed the same situation?
