I wanted to ask a question, I do not know if someone has asked before, usually we put to the phones a plastic casing to protect the phone from knocks,

Is there a plastic case for the Pinephone?
or is compatible with a known brand, which we can adapt to the Pinephone.

      Regards...

I have not seen any yet, I like to ,at least ,have a silicon or plastic cover, to protect the corners if dropped .

I'm pretty sure as an early adopter phone, there will be no case available. If we are lucky the form factor won't change and any cases that show up for the full production batch will fit the braveheart phones too.

As for how many units will be produced after CNY 2020, I cannot predict exact number, but the smallest the factory is willing to do is 10K from what I remember. Obviously that is just the very start. A conservative number for 2020 as is 40-50K, but given the amount of interest I expect there will be much more than that.

With those production figures someone will be offering a case if not PinePone themselves by the time of the main production run.

On those figures, just let it sink in for a bit. Minimum 10k, conservative 40-50k alternative OS phones arriving next year. There will be a lot of interest out there, and we would want UT naturally to be a major part of that figure OS wise. We have very exciting times ahead.

With these numbers in mind, I hope that, at least in the near term, the highest priority at UBports will be bringing the best possible product to the PinePhone, which will be a great platform for showcasing UT and its capabilities.

It was mentioned during Q&A 61 that work is already under way to bring an arm64 build and full Wayland support to PinePhones. Which is great! Once that work is nearer to completion, I hope that preparations will begin for rebasing the PinePhone build from xenial to focal, the next Ubuntu LTS.

@Lakotaubp There will indeed be a huge wave of new users once PinePhone is generally released.
But I think many of those people expects a traditional linux OS and many will complain about UBports being "limited" and might go to other OS.
But in any case, this will be big for UT and I'm pretty we'll still get legit happy new users πŸ™‚

And I'm about to be brave with a heart and buy a PinePhone πŸ˜ƒ

I wonder where the PinePhone will ship from. I'm planning to have it ship to New York but I'm worried about any additional fees/taxes. It's a 3rd party courier so it's not allowed. @PINE64 Would you know?

@kugiigi When I ordered mine, the shipping price was added to my shopping cart.
But regarding the taxes, they'll be requested by US customs and you'll have to pay when fetching your package.

I'm not a US citizen so I don't have the specifics but it's common all around the globe πŸ˜‰

Yes, taxes will be probably around 10% so 15$
But in case of the PinePhone, taxes are not taken at source they explicitly notice that they can be expected on delivery.

In the past, imported electronic devices arrive, and then a while later (1+ week or so) a note from the USA Federal people arrives with a bill for your imported device. My memory is more than 10%, but it was a while ago. YMMV.

Is it feasible, for ubports installer to be set up to install ubports on the pinephone.
If its possible ,surely many would opt for this β€œ easy way ” and then many would keep
ubports as their base β€œOS” with the option to β€œplay” from the sdcard.
just a thought,( but i guess you are doing that already).

I would assume that is the plan, but I doubt it will happen until the port is past initial testing.
