Oneplus 3/3T

@sven Perhaps try dropping down an installer version or two. I must admit to not trying the new beta one yet.
Edit Or 0.5.3 from here https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5008/testing-request-ubports-installer-0-5-3-beta -

red USB cable
That means quite nothing.
USB 2.0 capable cable is required, and usb 2.0 port is needed (not 3.0 one!).
Then if you can access your data under androΓ―d on your PC with usb 2.0 cable on usb 2.0 port, USB data is working well and that should work for installing ubports.

@Lakotaubp I tried 0.5.3 beta without any change. Probably the reason is simple:
fastboot devices
won't show the OP3. In syslog, the following appears when I plug in the USB cable:Oct 9 22:07:53 kernel: [101154.624051] usb 1-3: new high-speed USB device number 16 using xhci_hcd Oct 9 22:07:53 kernel: [101154.774090] usb 1-3: New USB device found, idVendor=05c6, idProduct=f003, bcdDevice= 3.18 Oct 9 22:07:53 kernel: [101154.774095] usb 1-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 Oct 9 22:07:53 kernel: [101154.774099] usb 1-3: Product: Android Oct 9 22:07:53 kernel: [101154.774102] usb 1-3: Manufacturer: Android Oct 9 22:07:53 kernel: [101154.774104] usb 1-3: SerialNumber: 0123456789ABCDEF Oct 9 22:07:53 systemd-udevd[59957]: 1-3: Process '/usr/lib/snapd/snap-device-helper bind snap_ubports-installer_ubports-installer /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb1/1-3 189:15' failed with exit code 1.
Should I move this to a new topic?

@sven Just tried 0.4.18 with OP red cable selected device myself and all worked. Just updating snap now to try latest version of installer.
-
@sven That'll stop things. Have you checked with fastboot devices via a terminal?
-
@Lakotaubp Yes, I see no output from the terminal command
fastboot devices
. -
@sven did you enable usb debugging and allow it for the specific PC via the popup that should appear on your phone's screen? Without that it will not be shown on
fastboot devices
.
Ah, wait you are already on UT and want to switch versions via the installer? I think adb isn't supported on the OnePlus3 UT port so I doubt it will show up unless you have booted into fastboot already. -
@sven Not trying to be funny but had you rebooted to fastboot mode first. if you had try another cable just in case.
-
@Lakotaubp Booting to fastboot mode before starting
ubports-installer
did the trick. Thanks. Maybe a message in the start screen ofubports-installer
would help ("If your device already runs some version of UT, please ..."). -
@sven If you stuck with 0.5.3 installer there should be a new way of reporting errors (https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5008/testing-request-ubports-installer-0-5-3-beta) Or give it a try and see if it is the same on there then report it. That will probably be the quickest way.
-
@Lakotaubp I only worked with the new version (0.5.3 beta). I opened an issue for this: https://github.com/ubports/ubports-installer/issues/1441
-
Is it possible to make dual boot for this phone. I was thinking about multirom with UBports and LineageOS?
-
@Dnc7 Sorry dual boot is not supported.
-
Hi all. Is there anyone here using a oneplus 3 as its daily driver? Any issue that I need to be aware of? I'd need a new phone and the op3 could be a good candidate...
-
@mymike Yes using it as a daily driver OTA13/Dev (probably will switch back to OTA14).
Compare to android the ui is a bit sluggish, but useable. I guess some issue with GPU acceleration? Also there is a strange bug with the display of the bottom edge that slightly breaks the layout of some apps. It seems to get confused with the desktop convergence mode and thus shows the bottom edge button fall-back all the time.
Also: the Nextcloud sync client isn't available for ARM64 in the appstore.

Idk, GPU acceleration isn't mentioned in the first ports under not working features, but neither under missing...

Oh, maybe it's because of the screen size, bigger than most of other phones

I'm going anyway to buy and arm64 phone, I just need to decide which one...

@mymike and @poVoq for Nextcloud arm64 version, please see this post :

yeah I know. just wanted to mention it as it is a rather important feature for some. No worries, get your life back on track first I can totally relate.
-
@mymike Have you considered the volla?
It will be sent very soon. It is known that the Volla phone will benefit from long-term monitoring and is already relatively reliable now. -
@domubpkm No, a new phone is going to be much more expensive than a 2nd hand one
