        @Lakotaubp said in PineTab Anyone?:

        As a native English speaker I have learnt to . . .

Agreed and upvoted. But we here in the North American "colonies" spell it "learned" as opposed "learnt" as spelled by the original imperialistic speakers of English. 😉

@PINE64 I want a Linux device that can be used as a GPS device. This is possible with the PinePhone, but near as I can tell, the PineTab doesn't currently offer GPS. In the future, will PineTab offer GPS via an expansion board?

@GizmoChicken Pine64 forum says LTE with GPS optional if using EG25 module that is in the Pinephone - using the expansion board they have made.

I do hope they recommend the best place in the case to place the antennas.

@rocket2nfinity That's great news. Thanks much for the info! Much appreciated!!

By the way, I hope that you (and others reading my reply to @Lakotaubp ) realize that my reply to him/her was intended, tongue in cheek, to "take the piss out of" my fellow native English speaking cousin. 🙂

Is it known if the "community edition" of the pine tab will be charged via Micro USB or USB C? I've grown a long lasting dislike of micro usb charging because it seems after 6 months or so the charging ports inevitably widen meaning you have to get the cable exactly in the right position for it to commence charging lol.

Interesting. If the EG25 can be installed, I hope Ubuntu Touch will support the telephony features on the tablet as well as the PinePhone. A tablet that can be used as a giant-screened cellphone is invaluable to people with severely impaired vision, but they are very hard to find.

In the US where I live, I don't know of a single one on the market now or ever. I know some people have imported telephony enabled early 7" Galaxy Tabs from the South Korean market, and there might have been a few others, but nothing currently supported so far as I know.

(Of course the US is going VoLTE-only over the next few years, so not only will all of those older devices no longer work, even Ubuntu Touch might not have VoLTE soon enough not to have an "outage" in the US for an indefinite period.)

@trainailleur VoLTE does work on my Nexus 6P- experimental UT build. It also works on the PinePhone. So, it should work on the Pinetab.

I have a ZTE Trek 2 HD, an 8 inch android tablet. The call kit works on it with Lineage OS, Kang, and other ROMs, as does SMS. I am trying to put together a Halium build, but I'm not a Dev, so it's not going easy. My last last attempt to port a device failed because of a device tree issue. I have greater confidence in this one because all the sources including vendor are well documented - it has a perfectly running Lineage 14.1 build and I think is a great candidate for UT. If I am successful, it will make a nice 8" phone.

For the devices that are not VoLTE capable, there's always Voip

Very good news about the PinePhone! Thanks for letting me know. Haven't gotten up to speed with it lately, and haven't watched the latest Q&A, but something said in the previous Q&A had make me think VoLTE was dead in the water for now. Glad to be mistaken.

What was the "call kit"? Was that an add-on? Sorry, I'm not familiar with this device. I'm set up to build Lineage, so a working Lineage 8" phone would be a good one to deploy to people who ask me about such things.

That would be very cool. Best of luck!

@trainailleur VoLTE is not controllable in the software, But, it does negotiate and run at least on T-mobile - because of the Sprint conversion. T-mobile has turned it on for any device on their network. I know AT&T has done the same. Verizon requires you to call and input a code to turn it on for your phone.

The call kit is the software that interacts with the modem to place calls. On XDA-Developers you'll find where someone patched it for the Trek 2. I tried it. It works, but it's buggy. Voip works perfectly though to make calls - Google Voice , Linphone, etc. The Trek 2 and the LG Gpad X 8 both work really well. I have hopes those two will make for good ports to UT. They are both very well documented and supported after-market .

@Loops Not at this time. It is, however, much less relevant on the PineTab as it can be charged via a barrel connector.

Now that PineTab is available as 'Braveheart' I cannot wait for the production version (sporting USB-C?) to have the whole family converted to Pine64/Ubuntu Touch devices.

It has been said that "these devices are the equivalent of the PinePhone Braveheart edition and are not final product".

Does that mean that there will then be a PineTab "Community Edition: UBports" as for the PinePhone ?

I just got a notification from DHL that my PineTab has shipped.

At this point in time what should we expect of the functionality of the PineTab?

Looking at https://gitlab.com/ubports/community-ports/pinephone and https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/PineTab I can't see much general info on how to start using it...

Do we have to boot from SD card?

Is this the best place to get builds?

I'm presuming that it'll track the pinephone pretty closely as it's more or less a different form factor for the same internals, but I guess we'll see
