When OTA 13 comes out on 4th September I shall be on holiday without access to a computer, so I shall be unable to re-install OTA 12 if there is a problem with the update. Can I delay the update until I return a week later?

@cliffcoggin sure. Just don't install OTA-13 until you are back.

Good. I assume I only need to turn off automatic updates.

@cliffcoggin Sure, actually even with automatic updates, it won't be installed until you manually tell it to install.

I've been running my phone in developer mode as my only daily driver since ubports took the reigns but i never ran into a serious problem. Excellent quality control. Thanks to everyone.

Fact is, there is no automatic update. Any update installation can only be triggered by the user, so you dont need to do anything.

@cliffcoggin said in OTA 13 deferment:

As far as I am aware of there is no way to revert an update anyhow. So even if you for some reason dissatisfied with OTA-13, once you commit to it, it is all you'd have available to install going forward.

@arubislander if the OTA-12 files are saved locally on your machine, and you know how to manually install, you can revert it back to any OTA in that case. its not supported if you do that, and if you report an issue with an older OTA your likely to get a response of "update your system and try again"

Evidently I don't understand the update process and am happy to be enlightened.
[1] What I have turned to never is Auto Download in Update Settings. Does that not prevent updates?
[2] Will OTA 12 be available from UBPorts after the release of OTA 13? The replies above suggest it will not.

@cliffcoggin Automatic download means what it says: Update files will be downloaded in the background, for your convenience but nothing gets installed automatically.
                              2. With great pain you probably can install an older OTA, but fear not, nothing will happen, its well tested, it will not brick your device. We have done this already a few times ^^^

Installing older version is possible. Not sure though if the installer supports selecting the image number but there's a command you can use to go back to certain version of a channel.

Downgrading should be supported, i think, and by "supported" i mean made easily possible.

Avoid the risk of needing to downgrade, stay on stable. Very, very little extra risk? try RC. Feel like taking a chance then Devel is for you. Want to risk falling off the edge. Then you know where to be... Go to the EDGE.

Thank you gents, I am reassured and will turn on automatic downloads again.
