Daily driver?

Problem being recent versions of Qt are not compatible with older kernel found with old android devices.
This is not the case. Qt doesn't care what the kernel version is. And Qt Company provides builds of latest Qt 5.15 for Android.
Discord isn't a responsive web site, and also "decent browser" is vague and not descriptive at all, while being slightly rude implying that Morph is indecent.

You mean old androΓ―d device will not have an updated qt/morph in OTA13?
All devices will get the upgraded QtWebEngine.

-
@dobey sorry i didn't mean to cause offence.
-
@gnugeek I love morph-browser ! i confirm it becomes better and better (thanks Balcy and @UniSuperBox for big big issues solved) and even on my daily phone BQ E5 HD (old kernel) dev and i confirm big improvement with qtwebengine upgrade.
If we go to see all open pull requests, after OTA-13 i think, it's sure morph-browser will become better and better. -
I just switched yesterday to my nexus 5 as my daily. Had to switch carriers since T-Mobile only lets volte devices on their network now, but it was worth iit
-
@david8kids curious what network you switched to? i had to switch phones and would love to get back on UT.
-
@david8kids I'm pretty sure Nexus 5 has VoLTE support in the radio.
-
@gnugeek Do you have a specific list of things which Morph doesn't do well enough? Can you open issues on GitHub for those things which don't already have opened issues?
-
@geekvine Cricket which runs on AT&T. They have until early 2022 before they start shutting down 2g and 3g.
-
@dobey It does I believe but things are a little confusing. I've read it was never enabled through firmware and on Ubuntu Touch at least when you place a call it switches off of LTE. If I type the imei number in metro or T-Mobile it will say it doesn't support VoLTE so they won't activate it.

Thanks Dobey.
My bad I thought it had something to do with the old kernel but I probably mixed up topics. -
@AppLee thanks for that, turns out this phone i installed ubports on shortly the OP3T support came out and then put away I hadn't updated it since.
the updated device has made a world of difference

@gnugeek
I'm glad to read that. -

Hi im curious how many of you are using ubports as your main OS. I'm thinking about fully switching over, I currently have a nexus 5 with ubports. Anyone else use it as a main OS, and which phone?
I have been using opo 1 as my daily driver since Feb 2020.There are some bugs to get used to, but using Ubuntu Touch instead of android or ios has definitely been worth it.
-
I need a video chat, telephony application. perhaps web.skype or similar. webrtc with video funΔtionality might do. my life partner lives far away and we don't have many opportunities to meet at this time. So this is vital for me to have ubuntu touch as my daily driver.
-
@marlboro50
There is no video chat app on Ubuntu Touch so far.
But Telegram just released a beta version for this feature, so there is hope that it will reach Teleports one day.
But it will need serious work to make it possible. -
@marlboro50 Indeed, as AppLee mentionned, a hudge work is needed to implement that feature on Telegram. Btw, Florian is working on the possibility to send voice messages in Teleports, this might be released in a future update. I guess a further step (quite much later) would be to activate voice calls in Teleports.
There's also Linphone that enables VoIP calls. You can check this app in the OpenStore. -
I have used Bq Aquaris E5 Hd with canonical's ubuntu touch, then ubports firmware, I also use Lg Nexus 5 previous Android firmware, now UbPorts firmware, it's going very well. About 3 years using Ubuntu Touch.
-
@stropbu
Firmwares are not made by ubports, nor canonical in the passed days.
OS is what they make and you're talking about
