Daily usable ?
-
The question is simple ... Is it usable for everyday ?
-
I use my Aquaris E4.5 as my daily phone. But if it's right for me, I don't know if it's ok for you
-
@izd as @GIEMME says it depends what you want to do with your phone.
I also have a BQ E4.5 as my daily driver because phone, telegram, basic browser, gps, etc is good enough. I don't use or want facebook and the like.
-
Sorry, I miss to mention that I have a Nexus 5. So ?
-
I have Nexus 4 with Canonical image as my daily driver. I also have a Nexus 5 with ubports image. I think they are pretty much equal.
I'd say they're good enough, but i'm really looking forward to get Anbox working for those apps i use once a week but are so very useful then.
Battery time is very close to not good enough, though. Also typing in text fields can be very frustrating sometimes, with automatic paste when adding a word in the middle of the text. And alarm clock does not seem to be reliable.

I use the stable release with a N5 as an everyday-phone for some month:
Ubports-image is much better than the previous ubuntu image.
+stability (1 crash/week)
+gps is much faster, now it is useable
+everything works (gps, bluetooth, wifi, phone, camera...)
+faster than ubuntu image, loading apps is now ok
~battery lasts one day, in hard usage phone gets warm and battery gets empty very soon
-bluetooth connects with headset, but soundquality was not useable. Filetransfer did not work (maybe user fault)
-using the speaker while phonecalls is too silent, microphone does not really work (maybe just on my phone the micro is broken)Ubports did a very good job to make the system useable on the N5 and i hope we can improve this still!
I will keep it as long as possible. -
I have a nexus 5 which I used last week as a daily driver. It worked fine for me just a couple of very small things.
Firstly email. I can't get email notifications ( might have missed how to or why in some of the documentation). This matters in my case as its linked to vehicle security for work. Also no FM radio which I also use a lot at work.
Had no issues last week other thanthe above, seems more stable than official Ubuntu version. Only stopped using bq 5 as its only 3g and have 4 g sim so goingto ebay that one I think.
Thank you for alyour time and effort. -
I'm using my BQ Aquaris E4.5 as daily driver from the begining (2015). It's ok for me, there are some anoyances from time to time, but nothing major. I must add, that I switched from a feature phone in 2015 to Ubuntu touch, and if UBports had not taken over, I would switch back to feature phone if my E4.5 died. For me at this moment there is no alternative to UBports in smartphone OS market.
If you are comming over from Android, IOS or maybe Windows, you must ask yourself if you can live withot the apps you are used to and are not available on UBports. OS itself is quite good. -
The main problem is that there are no serious applications and the operating system is very slow compared to any phone with Android. And a user can not pay 500 € for a new phone and a change the operating system to bring a disappointment, that's for sure .

I have been using UBports stable on my Nexus 5 since stable was launched (and legacy before that). It is my daily driver and it suits me very well. My requirements are not high - phone, text, satnav (OK but not as good as with Android), browsing, calendar, email, social networking (G+, Telegram, Twitter), a few webapps.
-
I run a BQ E4.5 since March 2015 as my daily phone. Meanwhile, also my wife and my 11 years old son do. It has all the apps we need (Dekko, Telegram, browser, sms, phone calls, cam, uNav, ...) and, even more important, it is free of spy ware and phoning-home apps. I do not need FB and What's Ape and so I really do not miss them.

What exactly is a "serious application" for you and which one do you miss?
For the BQ E4.5 I payed in 2015 around 150 Euro. I know, it is out of stock, but maybe one can find secondhand devices, as I could for my son. And a forth device someone sent to me as a gift and I switched this already to UBports.

@guru I also have 2 children and I assure you that they do not want this operating system.
And do you know why?
Because there are no applications or do you intend to return to Stone Age? -

Because there are no applications or do you intend to return to Stone Age?What children feel good or bad, depends a lot from the environment, for example of education, propaganda SPAM, TV, etc.
Re/ Stone Age, this was a nice TV serie years ago, but has nothing to do with this thread and does not answer my serious question I asked you.
-
@guru You have small child answers, how do you want people to use this operating system?
Slow, slow ... and there are no good applications, whether you want it or not. -

By showing and explaining zthem the big advantages.
Slow, slow ... and there are no good applications, whether you want it or not.
You have wrong and useless answers. There are a lot of good apps: Dekko, uNav, ...
Again, what exactly do you miss? -
I think other phones are superior in most ways, but there is no other phone that i feel as good to use as an Ubuntu Phone. I think it works well enough and is also constantly improving.
I'm very happy for all positive contributions to make it better, including constructive criticism.
Thanks for all the nice contributions so far, and keep up the good work!
