Battery drain - Nexus 5
-
30% in 2 hours of idle is way too much. -
@c0n57an71n Indeed. I just checked mine... I lost only 25% in 5 hours, WiFi on, Localization on, BT off, 1 hour music playing time and 30 minutes on the web...
Did you try to reinstall with UBports installer without wipe your data? Perhaps a background boot-loop process is going on (?) -
@stanwood I will try today, thanks.
-
I have lost 40% in 15 hours. No calls or internet use. I am almost certain that is an increase from a couple of months ago.
-
Reflashing worked indeed. The flat line is wireless-charging, The first downwards line is before reflashing, the second one is after. You can clearly see the difference in steepness.
Thanks! That worked for me! -
@c0n57an71n Great new!
-
@stanwood : thanks, will try it too!
-
@stanwood and @ everyone,
Today I reinstalled my UT on N5, to see if it also improves battery usage. It was a total failure! Drainage is now higher than ever before. It dropped like 40% within less than one hour (mostly I used twitter during that time). The line in the energy statistics drops almost vertically. What should I do now? Back to the previous OTA?
Thanks in advance for any tipps and tricks. -

How can I add a screenshot?
-
@taiga-woods Did you try to reboot the device?
-
@taiga-woods
To add an image, you can use the small icon (5th from the right).
But maybe you don't have enough "forum's life" to get it active...Regardless of this issue, you might want to try evaluating the battery drain with a consistent method i.e one hour in flight mode or with screen on but no activity or keeping the phone in the same location to get something that we can reproduce.
Screen on and data usage will certainly drop your battery down fast, so twitter is not really a good way to see if there is something wrong with the OS and battery saving strategy.
This morning I was on Quickddit for 15 minutes with small videos and I lost 10-15% battery during this time.
But in flight mode I lost about 40% in about 12 hours... -
@applee Thanks for the reply. I will try flight mode the next days. What I am sure about so far is, that energy consumption is much higher after my reboot. I think I will just reboot again with stable channel instead rc.
However, the fact that you lost so much energy even during flight mode seems rather concerning to me. At least for me, that would not be acceptable. For comparison: I already set my old Bq Aquaris 4.5 in flight mode to check the battery (just out of curiosity). With that old phone I still have 55% battery left after more than 2 weeks! And that Bq had been in use for more than 5 years.
I really start thinking about going back to my old phone... -
@taiga-woods
The nexus 5 is renown for its poor battery life.
Being able to get 10 - 20 hours on a single charge (depending on your usage) is already good IMO.And if this is the original battery it might be even worse.
-
@taiga-woods I'm lucky, I'm not facing such an issue with my Nexus 5 (stable), although the battery drain is quite poor on this device (I have to charge it 1 hour each day at work...). However it should be a little better with the upcoming Halium 7.1 port update (should be released in a few days normally) which would fix an abnormal CPU behavior in current 5.1 port.

I had the same issue, I noticed that the phone was getting hot on the back (top half) - and battery life was in free-fall.
I had tried to install FDroid - which does not work on the 4 or 5... but that was some weeks before so may not be related. I changed the hardware (battery) and did a reset - which had no effect. I reinstalled from UBports installer - that worked. I agree with the comments on the 5's battery life - I normally use a Nexus 4 which has a far better life and fine for a daily drive. -
@99 Just checking you ment to post here and not https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6734/battery-life-time-on-nexus-5/5 as this thread is two years old.

@lakotaubp Thanks - I should probably post to a current thread...
