    • Developing apps for Ubuntu Touch

      Hey all,

this is probably question for Ubuntu core devs. So hopefully this topic will find them well. I've been using Ubuntu Touch on my Nexus 5 for several days now and I gotta say, I'm impressed. Obviously Ubuntu Touch can't compete with Android or iOS but something tells me this isn't the community's main objective. All in all I strongly believe Ubuntu Touch has a great potential for people who seek privacy-minded smartphone. To get to the point. I've got some experience programming in Python and I'm interested in developing an app for Ubuntu Touch. Could you refer me or direct me to materials that I need to study in order to get grasp on how development works on Ubuntu Touch ?

      Cheers !

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch - sony xperia sp c5303

I was in the same situation as you. I had Xperia X and really wanted to install Ubuntu Touch on it so it's not hooked on Google 24/7. Ended up exchanging the Xperia for Nexus 5.

    • Telegram on UT

Just out of curosity are there devs who are focused on Telegram development for Ubuntu Touch ? I've seen apps being updated on my Nexus 5 but Telegram is never among them and it could use some work. It is a great app but the version for iOS and Android is better. Supports phone calls as an example. Can anyone provide any insight into this ?

    • RE: Telegram App

@advocatux It's my first attempt to use the app. I like the app 'coz it's built around privacy. I don't trust anything that has anything to do with Facebook.

    • RE: Telegram App

@lakotaubp I logged in into Desktop app without a problem but then I tried the app on Ubuntu Touch and it just keeps looping over and over.

    • Telegram App

On Nexus 5 Telegram app isn't working properly. I tap on app, then I receive a code to enter and when I tap on "Sign In" it just keeps looping and does nothing. I'm using 16.04

    • Bug report

Ever since I "upgraded" to 16.04 camera crashes on Nexus 5. Same goes for video recording. As I'm using Ubuntu Touch as my main driver it would be nice to have it fixed in future core updates. I really don't wanna go back to Android 'coz camera works on it. I ditched Android for reason.

    • Bug report from Nexus 5

Hi, I just wanna report 2 bugs I've noticed since using Nexus 5.
First, Messaging, multiple message deletion isn't working. If you tick more than one message to be deleted it will delete only one message at the time. I believe this can be fixed by a for loop. I'm Python programmer, not C so I'll leave it to others.

Second one, File Manager, the left arrow in left top corner won't allow you to go back to Scopes. You need to kill off the app to get out of it.

Apart from this my experience with Ubuntu Touch has been astonishing ! Keep up a great work !

    • RE: Updates on UT ?

@hummlbach Are you suggesting that UT is based on Ubuntu 16.04 source code ? Or is UT 16.04 completely different thing ? Excuse my ignorance, I'm just trying to learn more about UT.

    • Updates on UT ?

Have been using UT for some time now. Overall I'm very happy user. I'm just wondering how often UT gets core updates and security patches and all that good stuff ? Since I started using UT my phone got few app updates. Among others I spotted a calculator being updated few times and the OpenStore got updated once since started using it. You know these updates are a good indication of UT being well maintained and will keep getting better overtime. I understand UT is a community-driven project and has only few core developers unlike Android or iOS so I'm not demanding getting core updates every other day.

Can anyone initiated fill me in on how updates work on UT phone ?
