I made some tests. Data works perfectly with 3G (on the same phone).
Definitively a problem with 4G and Free operator (France).

RE: Data still not working after months of works, I go to e/os
@jnm I'm a bit late in the discussion but what I can say is that I have the exact same problem.
I also use a sim from Free Mobile.
Here are additional information :- When data stops working, flip airplane mode ON then OFF. You get data again for some (undefined) time.
- With some combination of WIFI ON / WIFI OFF / DATA OFF / DATA ON / AIRPLANE MODE ON / AIRPLANE MODE OFF, at some point, I get a stable data connection. I have not found the gold sequence. Maybe timings are of importance here. Once data is stable, I can switch data OFF then ON without any problem... Until I activate WIFI. Then the problem rise again.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong. Maybe data works when the network used is from another operator (roaming). Is there a way to know which operator is really used in UBports ?
My feeling is that this is a software issue, not an operator issue. My feeling is the connection is established but the system says it is not. Again, I can be completely wrong.
@jnm, you said there were no problem before end of 2023. Free has activated VoLTE and VoWIFI on their network at that time. Maybe this is the source of the issue...

Weird OS update problem.
Hi,
My FP4 is running OTA-4. I'd like to update it to OTA-5. Unfortunately, I can't.
In "System Settings / Updates" :
No software version is found (search for many minutes before give up).
No update channel is found. The current channel is shown as "20.04 Stable". But when trying to select a channel, none is found.
My device is configured with French language. Then I switched the system language to English (US). System rebooted to apply the change.
And.... TADA !!! When going back to "System Settings / Updates" OTA-5 has been found instantaneously. I applied the update without any problem. Now, I'm back to French language and everything seems to be OK in "System Settings / Updates". Channels are found and OS version is shown as up to date (which means the system can access versions server).
That's a weird behaviour.

RE: Installation questions
Thanks all for your answers.
@Lakotaubp I've subscribed to the Telegram channel. Thanks for the link (I had to remove the e at the end of the link).

RE: Installation questions
@messayisto What is misleading is that the installer says the phone must be running Android 11 but the choices seams to be for Android 9.

Installation questions
Hi,
I have a brand new FP4 on which I want to install Ubuntu Touch.
-
Is the 0.9.8 installer (Windows 10) the best to use ? When running it it says this is a prerelease version and using the latest stable version is recommended.
-
When running 0.9.7, the installer says the phone must be running Android 11. However, when going further in the installation process, one can choose between
16.04/arm64/android9/rc
and16.04/arm64/android9/devel
. This is misleading. Is it safe to install these versions on the phone (running Android 11) ?

RE: Which phone ?
@mrt10001 I want a UT phone. I currently use a Pinephone but it is hardly usable as a daily driver. And I don't see a brilliant future for this phone. I more and more believe the hardware is badly designed. Maybe I'm wrong. If this device becomes usable, I'll have a spare phone in my drawer. But for now, I need a device which just works.
I like the Fairphone philosophy . Yes it is an expensive phone considering its technical characteristics. But it is repairable and (supposedly) fabricated with another spirit (compared to other manufacturers). I'm sensible to these arguments.

RE: Which phone ?
@domubpkm Is saving 50€ extraordinary ? Probably not. But it is still 50€.
Many French online shops sell the FP4 at 529€/599€ depending on the configuration. -
RE: Which phone ?
@keneda I might take advantage of Black Friday prices to buy a Fairphone 4 and install UT on it myself.

RE: Which phone ?
@lakotaubp That's interesting but I think I'll make my choice before this happens
Anyway, thanks for letting me know. -
RE: Which phone ?
Thanks all for your answers.
Of course there's no ideal phone.I thought about the Volla 22 since it seems there is hard work from the vendor to make UT has good as possible on this device.
I admit I'd prefer a Fairphone 4 since it is more "future proof" (because of the repairability). But it is much more expensive and I don't know if UT is/will be well supported on it.

Which phone ?
Hi,
I'm in the process of choosing a phone. Which one is "the best choice" today ?
I'm thinking about the Volla 22".Any advice ?
