@moem No I don't want to sell it. I am going to keep it because I think UT will be very functional soon enough.

JingPad keyboard
When I first installed 16.04 about a year ago the keyboard worked straight out of the box. Somewhere around October or November it didn't work anymore. I am not sure when or if it was caused by an update because I simply didn't use the tablet much.
Last night I reflashed to stock Android and the keyboard is now working. Interestingly, the keyboard has some issues in Firefox but the keyboard is functional in Brave Browser, Mobi Office Suite, all Google apps and others.

RE: Flashing back to stock
I flashed back to stock Android 10 that had been recompiled to accept open-gapps and NikGapps. I choose to use NikGapps. I have a working Android 10 that is compatible with Google Play Services and Google Play Store. I have installed Google Photos, Maps, GBoard, Mobi Office Suite, Brave Browser and others. I added Firefox via a downloaded apk.
This tablet is now a fully functioning Android 10. Sadly, as much as I support Linux this tablet will stay Android for a while longer. JingLing Linux is gone and UB Ports just isn't ready yet for my needs.

RE: JingPad A1 - Weird (lack of) rotation
Very possible this is a hardware problem. I have reinstalled the original android OS to the JingPad to see. If I have more issues I will start another thread.

RE: JingPad A1 - Weird (lack of) rotation
I upgraded to 20.04 last night and this fixed the rotation problem.
But, I still don't have the external keyboard function.

Flashing back to stock
Has anyone flashed the JingPad back to stock? I have the application Research Download and the original .pac file plus another .pac that was complied to use open gapps. I have 16.04 (OTA-24) installed.
Following the instructions from JingPad company I get to the recovery screen as directed (this is the UB recovery screen) engage the Research Download but nothing happens. I've waited 10 minutes and tried this several times. Other people have reported that flashing back to stock works.
I am not sure what is necessary to do. Do I need to wipe some or all partitions? Factory reset? What state should the recovery application be in?
If it matters, I cannot reboot to bootloader from recovery either by adb commands or from the UB Ports recovery screen.
I am doing this in Windows because Research Download is a Windows app. In command prompt, the JingPad is listed as in recovery mode.
Developer mode is on.
What am I missing?

RE: JingPad A1 - Weird (lack of) rotation
My JingPad does the same thing. Maybe 1 in 20 boots the rotation will go to landscape mode in the supplied case the rest are in portrait mode when it should be landscape. I do not know about booting in the keyboard as my JingPad keyboard stopped working a few months ago.
Agree: pointless JingPad
Edit: the JingPad may have issues but thanks go to the devs working on this. The JingPad company left us with nothing and UBPorts came to the rescue. Hopefully things will get better in time.

Thanks for the info. I did not know this. -

@ian
I use a USB 3 on my computer to connect with the JingPad. I did find that the cable supplied with the JingPad did not work. I used a cable that I knew worked with my Pixel 4a. -
RE: How to Install Ubuntu Touch on the Jingpad A1/C1
@miy I had the same problem as you and I believe I posted how I resolved the bootloop in the Jing forums. But they are gone now.
It seems to me that when you want to shutdown the JingPad when it is in this state you have to hold the power button in and wait for two things to happen. 1) the familiar buzz and 2) about 10 seconds or so later you'll see something flash across the screen. This is when you release the power button.
Wait a few minutes before trying to reboot into recovery. When you do boot to recovery I find pushing the power button + 1 second then volume down and wait for the Jingpad logo then release and wait 20 seconds or so. You should have a recovery menu.
It has been a while since I had to do this and I'm working from memory. I've pretty much given up on UT on the JingPad. Good luck!!!

WayDroid installation fails
Re: Open Ubuntu Touch to all Android applications !
I followed the mentioned instructions and tried to install WayDroid on a JingPad C1 with UT OTA-23 installed. The second attempt was with a fresh install of UT. I tried both installation methods in the other thread i.e. The WayDroid Helper app and with command line. Each time the installation appears to go successfully. I reboot and when I start the WayDroid the app logo comes up and a spinning blue circle appears. This is as far as it goes.
Opening a terminal and using the ps command I see there is a lot happening. Most of what I see I don't understand.
Any ideas?

RE: How to Install Ubuntu Touch on the Jingpad A1/C1
@footer Did you select the option to 'select device manually'?
Also, when you attach the JingPad to either computer can you see the device with adb in a terminal app?
I installed UT 6 or so months ago and my memory is quite foggy but I do remember it took me a couple of tries to get the combination of the tablet and the PC right to install.
It seems to me that the process that worked was to boot the JingPad to where adb could see it and then start the installer and the installer would automatically detect the tablet.
I used Windows to unlock the bootloader and Linux to install the OS.

RE: JingPad C1 battery issues
Last update:
Scenerio 1:
When charging the JingPad during use (i.e. OS is running) and I disconnect the charging cable before shutdown there will be no problem. If I then reconnect the charging cable to the JingPad it will show the green charging animation.
If I then disconnect the charging cable something will keep running and discharge the battery.
If I reconnect the charger ( after disconnecting it once) nothing will happen visably. No charging animation.
Scenario 2:
If I connect the charging cable to the JingPad when not in use the JingPad will show the green charging animation. If I then disconnect the charging cable something will keep running and discharge the battery.
If I reconnect the charger ( after disconnecting it once) nothing will happen visably. No charging animation.
Generally, the time from pressing the power on button to the buzz signaling the bootup, is 3 seconds. If The JingPad is in this unknown discharging state the time to the buzz is 9 seconds.
So, charging my JingPad when the OS is not running leads to problems. I guess I'll just have to charge the JingPad during use and remember to disconnect the charger before shutting down.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

RE: JingPad C1 battery issues
Update:
3 times I noted the battery charge in % and then I shut the tablet down by software in the drop-down menu in the task bar. After 2 hours I boot the tablet and there is no noticeable loss in battery %.
3 times I did the same thing except I shut down by using the power switch. No noticeable loss in battery %.
All 6 times the time from pressing the power on button was 3 seconds until I felt the buzz of booting up.
After I shut down the last time I waited 30 minutes and plugged in the factory charger and charged the tablet from 50% to 60% and then I unplugged the charger. The next morning the battery was dead.
I plugged in the charger and waited a minute and pushed the power on button and it took 10 seconds to feel the buzz.
I have a few more combinations to experiment with but this does take a bit of time.

RE: JingPad C1 battery issues
Thanks for the replies. I am leaning towards a software problem. Or it could very well just be the JingPad computer Godz. hahahaha
No, I cannot take the batter out for testing.
I will try using the suggestion of shutting down from recovery after I complete all other possible combinations. This takes time.
Last night I shut the tablet down using the power switch. The battery was at 51% and this morning I turned it on and the battery was 51%. But tomorrow.... who knows?
Thanks for the suggestions.

JingPad C1 battery issues
My JingPad seems to continue operating at some level after the shutdown. Example: Battery is charged to 90% and I shut the table down and put it away for the night. In the morning I touch the table, which is a bit warm to the touch and only charged to 10%.
I have tried several combinations of charging and shut down, and most of the time the battery loses its charge. Maybe 75% of the time.
Has anyone else had issues with the JingPad holding a charge? Could some process be running in the background? I rarely use this tablet. I would guess I have used it for about 200 hours since I received it in February 2022.

RE: Recent update results in boot loop
2nd Update: I have reflashed the update and the JingPad is working with personal data untouched as far as I know. The system says up to date with OTA 23.
The key was to uncheck both wipe personal data and bootstrap during installation. (wipe personal data is already unchecked)
To recap: I did this on a Ubuntu 20.04 box with UBports installer 0.9.5 with USB 3.0
1: I powered on the JingPad to Recovery mode
2: Plugged in the USB cable
3: I started the installer and it found the JingPad and I clicked through to Install. -
RE: Recent update results in boot loop
Update: I found the password to the Windows box and tried to install UT from there. I downloaded the installer version 0.8.9 for Windows. (Linux had a newer version 0.9.5 ) I used USB 2.0 connection.
The installer recognized the JingPad when the JingPad was in Recovery Mode and rebooted the JingPad to bootloader mode. The installer asked all of the same questions as on the Linux box. This process failed in the same manner as the Linux box.
Over the next few days, I'll explore the idea of reinstalling JingOS/Jing Android and starting fresh.

RE: Recent update results in boot loop
@arubislander said in Recent update results in boot loop:
@el_pinguino Do you happen to have USB 2 and USB 3 ports on your computer. Issues have been reported using USB 3 ports, that seem to be avoided when using USB 2 ports.
My Intel NUC is all USB 3.0. However, this is the computer I initially installed UT with. And the same USB cable.
In a terminal adb sees the JingPad serial number and shows recovery mode. I start the installer and it recognizes the JingPad and the asks me what OS I want to install and I choose UT (only choice). Next step is the install options and I choose to not wipe personal date. Bootstrap only. Then it reboots to fast boot and says flashing firmware... until I power off. This time I let it 'flash' and changed my guitar strings. Plenty of time.
I tried to use the Windows box but I've forgotten the password. The only reason I have a Windows box was to unlock the JingPad bootloader.
I'll wait and see what happens with others in the future.
