RE: Miatoll devices UT Focal support
Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is like this:
-Halium is based on the stock ROM for these devices.
-flashing a stock rom means repartitioning and flashing ROM, recovery and bootloader and in the case of Xiaomi this means you have to unlock the boot loader again then. Which is only possible with the official installer, were you have to log in with your Xiaomi account.
I have no experience if dirty flashing Ubuntu touch on a broken Ubuntu touch installation without installing the stock rom is possible. If so you would be tied on the installed stock rom/Android version of the halium version (hope I got this right) if Xiaomi drops support on the present security method.

RE: Miatoll devices UT Focal support
@zubozrout this is exactly were I am coming from. So when I break the system I want to be able to make a new installation without xiaomis permission. Maybe they will change there security methods in a few years and then you can't do anything after breaking the system. Update halium seems also impossible than.

RE: Miatoll devices UT Focal support
One thing i really want to understand.
So each time i do a clean install of ubuntu touch i have to flash (in this case) the stock firmware.
When flashing the stock firmware i have to unlock the bootloader again with the xiaomi unlocker.
Does it require an internet connection/a connection to the xiaomi server to do so?

RE: Miatoll devices UT Focal support
I got confused with the codenames (miatoll, joyride and Curtana)
I flashed Curtana. I even removed some lines from the sh file for device verification, because I wanted to flash the us firmware on a eu device.
Now it cannot boot to either system, boot or recovery partition. There is just a short flash of the Xiaomi logo. I think it's gone. And I won't do any soldering. The screen has to many cracks.
Good to now that you don't have to wait again though. Maybe I will get a second device. Although it wasnt a straight forward experience and it doesn't have an OLED screen, it has good specs and a big battery.

RE: Miatoll devices UT Focal support
I got it working, but I think I used the firmware from the wrong device tree. Error: not catch checkpoint ($fastboot -s . *Lock).flash is not done.
Now it can't even go into fastboot mode anymore. It was a cheap device with a broken screen though.

RE: Miatoll devices UT Focal support
Miunlock tool V2 is a mod from an independent developer.
It can flash recovery images and I think it can also flash stock roms.
I also found this one. It seems to have a checkbox for for relock when flashing stock roms.

Which one do you mean? An official tool? Do I have two wait two weeks again when using this?

RE: Miatoll devices UT Focal support
Will get my note 9 pro bootloader unlocked in a few hours. It's on Android 11.
Do you know if it's possible to downgrade with the miunlocktool V2?

RE: Wired HDMI out, USB-C dock, Mouse & Keyboard, Libertine and other questions.
Maybe the reason that no inputs next to the fairphone logo are recognized is that some of the screen area is used for the ut gesture to reach the task switcher. I think in the ut tweaks app from the open store you can set the width of these areas.

RE: Libertine tested apps, hacks, tips and tricks
I got libpurple with the purple-facebook plugin working. I found both arm version on the web.
I can't remember correctly, but i think it was possible to to set an update period. However there were instant notifications when someone went online/offline. The notification was displayed system wide when the app was running in the background. It was necessary to rearrange the ui elements with a preinstalled plugin.
There is also some sort of plugin which can resize the ui. I think it was installed but some modification to some files had to be done, but i didn't even found the directory and the libertine container also broke.
There is also a purple whatsapp plugin but i didnt manage to archive anything.

RE: Halium vs renegade project
Its a community that started or has emerged around the porting of windows 10/11 onto the nokia lumia 950.
Now there are a handful of snapdragon (especially 845) devices supported. In my understanding the key was some sort of hack to get a uefi running on those chips. Also if i am right the drivers are reverse engineered or other known drivers were modified. I am not sure about the documentation of those.
The website also has a chapter dedicated to linux but it seems quite empty. -
Halium vs renegade project
Which will have a better perspective in the future of getting things to work?
Would it be a wise thing for ubuntu touch to switch in the future?
Is there a difference on how secure these methods are? Is there a reason to question the security of halium anyway, just because it contains code that is not documented?
Do you think google will actively try to avoid such things as halium at some point?
What are your thoughts?

RE: Calling UBPorts Musicians
@balrong low latency kernel sounds nice, but sounds a bit hard to archive. Maybe its easier to mess with the driver at os level. I am more or less a noob regarding such things.
I am not sure if alsa related stuff has to be build with the kernel or could be patched afterwards.
In my understanding you basically would have to Install a new/another driver to reduce the processing to a minimum. Maybe you have to compile it and the dependencies for that matter.
Should be frustrating on arm. Sorry for this half backed infoMaybe they are already using the fast possible driver on ubuntu touch.
Vcv rack is a modular synthesizer, you could use that to stack a bunch of delay pedals etc (infinite) and add some weird modulation. You can use trrs adapter to get audio in and out through the headphone jack. Or you could build one yourself.
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTr6mewObW10MUwUOo5XHuWRTagULEofqSiMvetKqmNG4JrNCI&usqp=CAcRecording would be nice with an usb interface, but i am not sure if the drivers are part of the kernel. For lineage os they are.
But don't forget that you would have to copy the files from your slow usb connection afterwards, if you don't want to use one of these rudimentary daws to finish your project.
I didn't try it though.
Btw the best audio mod for android is this (magisk module). it does a lot of stuff. (In my understanding from the ground)
However it does sound cleaner, but not with a better latency. But i have to admit that the audio seems messed up with the kernel i use. -
RE: Lomiri suggestion
To be more specific, lets call it an idea from the perspective of a passionated user.
I just wanted to describe what i personally want from a mobile device. Since ubuntu touch is already based around the sidebar, one might think it could be well suited for this idea. But maybe i am the only one impressed by this.
I think i got the part with the top-left-os. That sounds not as easy as adding 2 lines of code.
Btw i planning to invest in a new device. On top of the list are the poco x3 pro for its screen refresh rate and the galaxy s10e for its size and build quality. For now it seems more convinient to choose the later for reaching over to the left side.

RE: Lomiri suggestion
Its just A suggestion.
I don't mean multitasking in a way of using two apps at the same time, but more in how the os is managing the apps.
In short i mean that it can freeze and unfreeze stuff more or less instantly.
So it would be convenient to just tap the corresponding button for what i want to do without micro managing the system or think to much in general. In android i works with the free form mode only. The problem is that it just drops the ram management, since everything will be 'in the forefround'

RE: Lomiri suggestion
@cibersheep i mean the launch bar on the left side. Like the taskbar on windows.
I know how the task switcher works. I think its just unnecessary since the job can also be done with the taskbar.
You pull from the right, you scroll and then you tap. Quite a few stesteps. And it might be necessary to change the grip to do so.

Lomiri suggestion
I have a suggestion, for a feature. I might be kind of straight forward to add. But maybe i am underestimating this since i am not a developer myself.
I would like to have the option to have the taskbar on the buttom of the screen and make it always visible.
This would be a more modern aproach on multitasking, and also it would fit the newer screen ratios quite well.
In my opinion it is kind of annoying how mobile operating systems operate. The newer devices are really fast, and ubuntu touch is also really fast ui wise. But most of the time i am menu diving.
Another nice option would be to disable the old task switcher, add a back gesture instead and decrease the long press duration to close apps from the task bar/or somthing like first click switches to the app, second click closes it.
