Keyboard suggestions:

Love the UI, but the keyboard size and prediction is problematic.

Suggest removing hunspell from auto-correcting output, and letting (if possible) Presage kick out the word prediction instead, regardless of spelling correctly. Hunspell gets the word wrong 70% of the time--it's not great for the ambiguity of the touch keyboard.

For some reason, text2ngram doesn't seem to be part of the ubports build of presage? Ammending the English database with a few more complex English texts from Project Gutenberg which are somewhat modern (more Oscar Wilde, some longer Jack London, H. G. Welles "War of the Worlds", and for idioms the King James Bible [lots of English phrases and expressions stem from this text]) will aid immensely in more accurate contextual text prediction.

I found the files and tried to execute the text2ngram commands to append the new .txt files I wanted, but with nol luck. The phone adb shell told me that i couldn't execute text2ngram because I needed to install presage...

But... presage is already installed on both the computer and on the device. Ugh... I don't know.

and in the far future, talking about ideas on how to improve presage prediction.

Hi folks! I'm a total beginner when it comes to changing code and finding files, etc. However, I'd really like to help out with developing the appearance, themes, and usefulness of the keyboard. I just have no idea where to start, and what steps I can take before being actually useful. Any tutorial suggestions for dummies would very very helpful.

Key interests are:

Learning where files are installed when the OS is flashed

What apps, programs can be used to edit these files (initially only colors and sizes)

Ultimately, how to change things on Git Hub, and how to tell the installer where to pull from.

Hey Tupp, thanks a ton.

How did you get that list? When I plug my phone in, all I can browse/access is /home/phablet--and no hidden files. My phone is already in developer mode, and in read-write (using tweak tool).

I've also tried poking around with adb shell, and navigating to a directory--but no hidden files are shown when I type ls.

I'm kinda new--but I'm sure I can do something that allows my computer to browse my phone as root...

The txt files need to go into the same file as dorian gray... and I need to change how the program looks at them.

I'm trying to work on the prediction of the keyboard, locally. Right now, only one ebook is being used to teach Presage it's suggestions: the picture of dorian gray (as set up on GitHub).

I'd like to include two more texts, and indicate them on lines 28 and 29 respectively, based on this src.pro: https://github.com/ubports/keyboard-component/blob/master/plugins/en/src/src.pro#L28
But... I'm totally lost as to where to find the files on the UT phone, and how to edit the program. I know where things need to go, but I can't find the location they need to go and I don't know how to change the code.

The two texts I want to add are both from Project Gutenberg: War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells [ http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/36/pg36.txt] for more grammar and vocabulary complexity, and the King James Bible [http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/10/pg10.txt] for English idioms and phrases as well as grammar and vocabulary diversity. It''s a test, but my hunch is that it will provide better text prediction than only The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde alone.

After reading the blog this morning from March 29, I'm super excited and wanted to share my enthusiasm.

Just this morning I was looking into trying to build the Ubuntu image on a newer kernel for my Nexus 5. It's way outta my league, honestly, since I'm a history teacher and spend almost all the rest of my time with my family and staying marginally fit (and am Linux newbie). Thing is, unity 8, mir, snaps and convergence just capture my fascination.

So, my excitement is due to the announcement that lineage 14.1 (Android 7.1.1) will soon be the new base for ubports, and there will be a jump to Ubuntu 16.04. This is really exciting. Though the Nexus 5 is no longer a top performing device, the new changes will still, supposedly, apply? There's a lineage 14.1 for the Nexus 5, so I'm really excited to see where this goes.

If I'm right, the latest udate from this evening remembers wifi upon reboot. I'm checking right now... yep... worked! Whew. Thats a lot less work... It even worked when the USB was plugged in. Great work.

Thanks for this post. I'd like to report the same regarding the Date and TIme and Wifi. I've been updating every night for a week on the devel_rc. It's typically stable. I checked the rc_proposed channel for a more stable release--but the browser still doesn't work. Funny enough, the battery % worked accurately.

• Battery level caps at 50%. It works well, and I get a good day out of the battery. Could be better--but is only slightly below Android par for the same phone.
• Wifi cannot connect to network though details are saved (password) after: logging into another wifi and rebooting phone.
• Wifi does reconnect after using Flight Mode--but only if remaining in the broadcast area.
• Cannot disable mobile data.
• Date/Time is sometimes wonky--kicking back to 1970, and not finding current time.

Regarding some apps--for the LoquiIM Crew (WhatsApp compatibility) and Nexus 5--I've been waiting for the app to drop the Decrypt Error. Have dropped a note on launchpad--am just putting out feelers here in case it hase something to do with the port/stability/frequent updates.
