If I remember correctly it was because Canonical spend a lot of time creating a custom version of the browser that allowed doing this stuff on Mir. But this older browser was dropped at some point by Ubports as it was too much effort to maintain and qtwebengine promised to allow the same at some point on Wayland.

Edit: This is really the main issue I think. Most messengers get away by using an embedded browser and WebRTC to do video chat. Doing something like that from scratch is really hard.

You can revert to android if you want to.
But you'll need to flash it using an official image.

With the bootloader unlocked you can flash other OSes available for your hardware. It includes Android.

So if I have an Ubuntu Touch, and turn flight mode on -- basically it is very unlikely anyone will be tracking meat that point. Even the ISP, right?

In the video above, Google only knew where the man had been, because it was all recorded and uploaded by Google software on the phone, when he turned his phone back on.

Or, short of that, I could probably just put the phone in a faraday bag.

@mrlen well it spits out a lot of information, but the critical one is a valid logintude/latitude after the GPS got a fix. If that never appears, only guess it that the antenna has issues. But in general your location backend works, otherwise the NMEA messages would not show up there.
