    • RE: Google Fi - Porting question from ex-googler

(Please tell me if I'm speaking out of turn here) - isn't th point of a privacy respecting phone to escape from the clutches of Google (and the other data gathering corporate giants)? If people still love Google services, why not just use Android?

I may have missed the point here, but the concept seemed quiet abstract. But then again, I did find in open-store an app for Farcebook too! 🤑

Although , does UT also attract users with no concerns over privacy, but just a love of Linux?

Sorry myquestion is less technical, more philosophical, don't mean to go off topic, it just made me think.

    • RE: Alarm clock?

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better!

yes, also I couldn't find it using the search facility.

I thought about deleting the topic when I found the alarm, but it may be useful to other newbies!

Slowly but surely this UBports phone is replacing my Android phone! Just need to fix uftp file explorer now (another topic).

    • RE: Google Fi - Porting question from ex-googler

@Flohack thanks, I guess it comes down to how / why we discover UT. I came to UT as I was looking to enhance privacy by removing propriety software from my life, a long and painful process (technically and socially), so had it in my mind that others using UT would just be seeking the same.

I had been waiting for the Librem 5 phone, but thought I'd try UT as a stop-gap until its finally available in a daily useable form. This is because I also like the idea of non-propriety firmware for the hardware. But for now UT is giving me an open source OS, which is a massive step in the right direction.

At home I run an Ubuntu web server, Manjaro PC, several Raspberry Pi's for various purposes / projects, OpenWRT broadband router. Only use Windows for work, as thats what we are given. I'm trying bit by bit to arrive in a private world, not supporting big corporations through snooping on me and my family.

      Cheers, Scott

ps: I'm sorry for the off topic nature of this philosophical diversion!

    • RE: Morph, how to clear cookies? ref GitLab login.

      Thanks, that was perfect!

However, I still can't log in to git lab from my Oneplus one. I've tried the open store app, and logging in directly to the website using Morph, but both return the same issue.

This thread can be marked closed / solved, I'll start another about gitlab login.

      Thanks, Scott

    • RE: Convenient VPN App

Hi, just re-visiting this, having the existing UT VPN take care of these features would be ace, save having to depend on extra apps.

from a users point of view, having the mobile data reception indicator or wifi indicator in the top bar turn green when connected via VPN successfully would be a nice way to show a secure connection rather than an extra indicator symbol cluttering up the top bar.

      @scottbouch
I saw in another post that you cannot mark a topic as solved yet.
With experience in the forum you should have this ability.

Ping me if you need me to do it for you.

Thank you, yes it'd be helpful to close it for me please ... when I figure out how to take a screenshot (oneplus one) I'll be able to show what the forum gear button shows me.
