RE: Input lag? Keyboard issues.
@kugiigi the word suggestions are great when available, but for some simple words like "with", "liek", just simple misspelled words, the corrected versions (or any word) are not offered for selection. I will wait a while and check back to see if anything has improved, for now I am on Lineage.

RE: Input lag? Keyboard issues.
@gpatel-fr I am on Lineage now and the keyboard is fine, so I think it's purely a UT/software problem that hopefully gets looked into in the future.

RE: Input lag? Keyboard issues.
@lduboeuf yes, I have those settings enabled.
It seems that the input response time needs to be shorter between keypresses, otherwise I need to slow down my typing and gets annoying, hence this "lag" I am describing. I use the pixel 3a xl on 24.04daily myself.

Input lag? Keyboard issues.
While typing on the keyboard, let's say texting with a friend, the keyboard cannot keep up with my typing. My regular phone has no problem keeping up. I find that there is some kind of lag while typing, otherwise if I text at my regular pace, certain letters and characters are missed and I have to backspace and re-enter each word.
Does the keyboard receive active development? Predictive text is meh as well, simple mistakes such as "woth" do not get suggested the correct word.
Typing on Ubuntu touch is kind of a pain in the ass. I really want to daily drive this but this has been a small setback.

will there be a do not disturb setting coming?

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A177 call for questions
on the last call it was mentioned that the kernel supports wireguard, can this be implemented in the settings/VPN page?

RE: OpenVPN setup does not offer what i need for my vpn server....
@gpatel-fr I just arrived back from a work trip so perhaps this weekend ill play around and report back. ill add a route manually and see what happens!

RE: OpenVPN setup does not offer what i need for my vpn server....
I am glad that I found this thread. I also wanted to have remote access to my network while on the go so I enabled open VPN on my network. I actually use wireguard, but since there is no wireguard support in settings, I decided to use openvpn just for Ubuntu touch.
I followed the guide that's on the Ubuntu touch website, extracting all of the keys and information required to set this up. However, while I am able to establish a connection, I cannot ping anything at all, my route out to the internet as well as to internal network devices is dead.
I thought perhaps my configuration was wrong, so to verify everything was fine, I downloaded the OpenVPN app on my regular phone (android) and imported the profile that was created from my router (I used this exact profile to extract keys from above). Once it connected, everything just worked.
I'll follow this thread in case there are additional instructions I need to implement.

RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
@saveurlinux it has got better but it is still very inconsistent. Initially after taking one picture I would get the black screen, couldn't flip to the front camera, had to reboot the phone. After a couple of daileys, I was able to flip back between both the rear and the front camera and take pictures, but from time to time the same error would occur. I tested last night and it's the same thing. It's definitely improving though.

RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
@VoidItsWarranty my gps works but suffers from the "unable to load right away" issue (takes about 40-50 seconds for GPS to lock onto my location).
(referencing from the pixel 3a xl page, also not device specific: Devices may take longer than usual to get the first GPS fix because of missing Assisted GPS support. - is what I am referring to).

how to install cifs-utils?
Within the included file explorer app, there is the option to access network devices. However, I am unsure how to mount an SMB share. When I first installed Ubuntu Touch, I assumed I could use apt to install cifs-utils, and then edit fstab to include the network mounts. Since the file system is read only, I cannot install cifs-utils. I know you can make the system read/write (I read it isn't recommended to do this), but before I do that if this is the only way, is there any other way I can install this so I can mount my network devices?

RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
I missed an update yesterday, but I just updated to daily update 301. Tested the camera and surprisingly it worked every single time I used it, even flipping back from the rear camera back to the front camera. Played with some settings, changed some resolutions etc, took many photos, and the app still worked the entire time even after closing and reopening. Bravo to devs!
Now, if only there was a solid native email application that worked, I would daily drive my pixel 3a XL. So close!
Scrolling improved on daily update 299, I noticed it's not nearly as janky as it was. It's certainly much better, but not quite there yet. Patience!
So far I am pretty impressed with Ubuntu touch, especially on this device. It's very smooth. Thank you to everybody who works on this project.

RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
on daily channel, with version 299 update, camera is now working mostly as expected in the sense that it doesn't freeze after taking the dirt picture anymore/show a black screen.
edit: hit or miss, though I was able to take 6 pictures in a row with no issue compared to before.
i have noticed that when you open the camera, it does not autofocus properly, i think this is a bug. camera refocuses after tapping on screen to focus on selected area otherwise.

is fredldotme still the pixel 3a port maintainer?

RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
@lduboeuf hey no worries, people work on this on their free time and I value and respect that. I'm happy something like this exists.

RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
@lduboeuf ahhh I did not know this. I guess I was expecting that the OS knows when to send an MMS using the modem only. It worked after disconnecting from Wifi.
-
RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
@lduboeuf I can't seem to send or receive any MMS, specifically images (as as the only thing I have tested with).
The APN settings seem to be correct.

RE: Pixel 3a/3aXL and Noble (24.04) Experiences
Hi there nice to meet you, I am interested in this project as I want to move away from the mainstream options. Although I am not versed in the world of programming (once upon a time I was heavily into mIRC scripting), I don't mind testing features out. I understand that this is a work in progress.
I use the Pixel 3A XL (bonito). I will list issues down below, but am unsure if they are device specific or Ubuntu Touch as a whole.
-
camera: works once, then a still image of the picture I just took remains. If I flip flop through apps and come back to camera, The viewfinder shows what the camera is looking at, but when taking a picture, the blue spinning circle appears and never goes away (the picture is never taken at this point)
-
scrolling: I feel that there is a hard limit set for scrolling, as it does not scroll through pages quick enough and is sluggish. For example, when on a web page using morph browser, if I want to scroll down, I have to do it slowly so that it actually scrolls down. Regardless of how slow or fast I go, it appears to be "Skippy". Now, if I scroll really fast (or even slightly faster than normal I guess you can say), It's almost like the scrolling motion turns into a bounce, where it will scroll down a few lines/segments, then start scrolling back upwards. This behavior is throughout the whole operating system and is not related to the browser itself I find. I can provide a video here if interested to see the behaviour I am describing.
-
MMS: this is a known issue but I'm bringing it up because I'm wondering if it is something that will be worked on?
-
Waydroid: it would be nice if the app switcher would show a thumbnail for each waydroid application being ran. A thumbnail only shows for the last running/opened Waydroid app, while the other Waydroid apps have no thumbnail and are transparent.

Wifi bug: I don't know how this happened but here was the setup leading up to it right from the first boot: device turned on, connected to my Wi-Fi, saw that there was a hotspot option so I set that up too but never used it/turned it on, installed some apps from the store, installed waydroid, was using some Android apps here and there, I guess I ended up rebooting due to something unrelated at some point but when the phone turned back on, it asked me to reconnect to my network. It added a one at the end of the SSID. I noticed that there were two Wi-Fi signals. They had separate strength indicators from one another although they were marginally close in terms of the appearance. I tried to remove previous networks and I noticed that there were two of the same SSID, along with a new "ssid 1". When I removed the other networks but kept the one that was working, the other Wi-Fi icon would disappear. Even though it showed that I had removed these networks, upon rebooting, they would show up again in all of a sudden I would have two Wi-Fi indicator icons up in the top bar.
The side effect of this, is that I can no longer ping my laptop, but could ping everything else on my network. My laptop also could not see the phone and I could not SSH back into it. I was only able to SSH into it one time before this problem happened. I ended up doing a system reset to start over.
These are just a few things I can think of right now. I have only had the device for 2 days, and had spent an entire day with Ubuntu touch yesterday, but I do plan on using it back and forth with my S24 for some real testing.
I've been reading some posts in the forum here, I don't exactly have the setup to set up a dev environment (saw a recommendation of 24gb RAM, I'm kneecapped at 8gb lol!), but I would like to test any new builds or features that may be coming or have been improved upon. So if there's other things that you might want to get me to try, I'm all for it. I run pop OS on my laptop.
