@GosuSan Just do it and don't always rely on the instructions. Xiaomi still has Android 10, which is mandatory for Ubuntu Touch. By the way, you are right, you should link the right version for each device. I have already reported what was somehow done but now you have to search for it yourself. I haven't seen the porter since the beginning of the year here probably a lot of work or not.

        Hi @GosuSan, @Enrico13011978

The guide state to check the firmware version.
So the link is to the firmware.

It does not state one should flash it manually, except if you know what you're doing.

The general rule is to install whatever version of Android is required for a given device.
How to install Android or a particular version of Android is not something UBports wants to be accountable for.
There is a plethora of guides on how to mess with android available online...

The first steps to install Ubuntu Touch are not something we have direct control over.
So unlocking the bootloader and getting sure that one have the proper version of Android will remain the user's responsibility.
Just follow the porter's instruction as to what version should be present before running the UBports installer.

          @GosuSan
For downgrading you have to use full image, the one that is 4.6GB, because downgrading is equivalent to a full system reinstall.
Incremental update (the one that is ~80MB) is not appropriated for this purpose.

@GosuSan Good! Then we hope everything will (as it should) finally go fine.

I've already asked in a previous Q&A session if UBports installer could directly load et flash the appropriate firmware/ROM in the process, but as Applee well explained, there are legal and copyright reasons that are far beyond our control that prevent us to do that.

Thanks beforehand to let us know how your install did succeed 😉

@GosuSan i have the same device you will actually need 12.02 as the final version will work but for some reason screen rotation is broken i dont know why you should just be able to use the installer but if you cannot you will need to use fastboot command from the terminal and you will have to fasboot flash <partition> filename.img to each file the partiton names are the same as the filenames

Well cheers meal if I had not written in a group that the entire servers of Xiaomi firmware got new links.you wouldn't need any firmware at all. That means you could also leave Android 11 on it and just have no telephony. The best firmware is 12.0.2.0 Global or EEA. Or even Lineage Os 17.1 works with the porter of the devices probably changes from time to time. The fact is that if Ubports don't want to have anything to do with Android etc., the user has to expect accidents in advance. In any case, I don't think your attitude is that good. I know exactly what quirks the UT installation sometimes brings with it. It starts with the recovery, where an error has crept in. You have to recreate the portions, which may have to be flashed three times. It would really be an advantage to be able to get and install Android (Los17.1) via installer. Drodidan can also be fetched this way.

@Keneda Personally, I will do a UT installation tomorrow with the new Devel 24.04 with original Android and Lineage Os 17.1. My device is Joyeuse and I may share the results as I also want to test something with the VoLte history. It may be that I stay with UT for the time being to help a little. Because without trying it yourself you are lost anyway. As a new customer, I wouldn't want to keep loading up to 5 GB. There are also other firmware for TWRP you have to search for everything. That's the big annoying thing with Xiaomi. It doesn't get any better with the latest Hyper Os!!!

Now I have even found a Russian global version 12.0.5.0. I am testing this one and it should work. If I give Tobiyio or whoever is maintaining the device page the link with the request to set this for Joyeuse. Sorry but the Porter is not 100 reliable in this regard. He has only tested 12.0.2.0 and 12.0.1.0. These are all very minimal deviations. The main problem back then was the blocked telephony in some versions, including 12.0.4.0.

@Enrico13011978 No need to be rude nor use dirty words here.

Some other smartphones companies including Nokia and Huawei just even not allow to unlock their bootloader. But that doesn't mean we can afford to criticise them here.

Anyway, the advised Fastboot ROM to first install on this device is V12.0.3.0

@stanwood I will look very carefully in future before I ever buy Chinese smartphones again. Whether the manufacturers release the bootloader is up to them. But I won't buy anything like that anymore. That has nothing to do with me being rude, it's just the way it is. And you can believe me, I've spent hours with the firmware versions, but that's enough.

@Moem I have taken note of that. I'm definitely not going to write anything more about Xiaomi smartphones because I'm done. But what is relevant is that Xiaomi likes to release firmware versions twice. Be careful, even for Android 11 there is version 12.0.2.0 or 12.0.3.0 if you don't pay attention, the wrong stuff is on it.

@Moem It would simply be more helpful if the porter for these devices hosted the software on GitHub. On the device page, everything is only halfway cobbled together or the links. Ubports will definitely have to admit this in the future. There's not much more to say here before the administrator or the moderator start complaining again. Sorry, but I'm not going to change my stance on Xiaomi. What is the point if you only refer to Android 10 in the instructions, and you download the software, set up the smartphone with UT, and find that the telephony does not work or the call is terminated. The only firmware that works in the global version is 12.0.2.0 Global or EEA. Thanks to the new link that has now been set, you will not immediately find Joyeuse and Co. In my opinion, you have to inform the porter who has to adjust the links and that's it. Otherwise you have to take Xiaomi from the installer or from the supported devices. Everything else is otherwise a lie for the user because there is no support.

@Enrico13011978 I think there is very good help and support here on this community forum, Telegram groups and the websites including GitLab. Sometimes things do take a bit of working out with the way device manufacturers label up their Android ROMs and there is only so much that may be done to help, as the helper is not sat next to you going through the install. There is also a lot of things people can do to help themselves using search engines ( used many a time to work out install errors) and the like to gain some knowledge and get past issues that may arise. There are no lies about the help and support, certainly something's should be clearer, but when people are porting in their spare time, you will get these issues as they have jobs and other priorities in life. Likewise, there are going to be functional bugs, some can be ignored, others may be not - iOS and Android suffer this as well (and I can say Apple support sucks unless you pay).

@MrT10001 I know what you mean, no question. But if you take this company Xiaomi as an example, you're abandoned. There are Android 10 from number 11.xxxx to 12.xxxx among them to find one where the telephony works is a gamble. No wonder if one porter after the other leaves the sinking ship.

@Enrico13011978 Look at it this way, all mobile companies orphan their devices at some stage, some sooner than later. Likewise they will update websites, links and so on, so accessing certainly archived software becomes a lot more difficult. XDA Developers forums is huge and is also plagued by dead links and outdated information. You can help if you so wish, by posting here your links and what your experience to get things working was like. Alternatively you can be quite negative and complain which to all is quite unhelpful.
