With the answer @DenMoore got, I wonder if you have to buy a tablet with Volla OS and then instal Ubuntu on it by yourself (via system update). In their shop you choose the OS but it seems that they will send you the same.
I would appreciate more transparency. This community will not be blinded by marketing but by specs and freedom. I do not mind delays and I prefer real facts.
@kugiigi, I pretend to project interactive presentations, in which I will draw and I will manipulate 3D models. A noticeable lagging is undesirable.
I mentioned wireless connection because the Lenovo Tab M10 HD 2nd Gen Wifi 4G/64GB has that feature. I prefer being free of wires, but if the connection has a noticeable lag, I would not mind a wired connection. However, as I see in the devices page, among all the phones only Fairphone 4 has that feature.
Will it be one or another (wireless or wired) be extended to the other devices? -
@aimar All devices are capable of wireless display however it may depend on the port if it's enabled or working. Wired display out is a hardware feature though so you can't just implement it.
-
@kugiigi Got it! Thank you. It seems a lost battle though.
On the one hand, if the wireless mirroring is so disappointing I guess, and I understand, the developers will focus their efforts on more useful issues.
On the other hand, if wired mirroring depends on hardware, there is nothing to do, since it seems that the new promoted devices (except FP4) are not prepared for such feature.
I really miss convergence for a tablet. The only ones that have a wired mirroring feature are the old BQ Aquaris M10. I own a BQ E4.5 and Morph crashes a lot (although I will keep using it until its pieces fall apart). I suppose it is due to its low RAM, but I do not think a second hand BQ M10 will do better now. My presentations rely on HTML+CSS+JS so I would create a webapp with Weber, pointing to my presentations.

@aimar Yeah, 1GB or even 2GB of RAM isn't enough these days. UT may still work relatively smoothly but multitasking with multiple apps especially browsers/webapps would be a struggle.
-
I got my UT tablet a few days ago. I miss a few things like easy printer support or a working password manager solution. Location takes a while to kick in with uNav but it works. And the pen is at least now not yet supported by UT, which was not mentioned in the shop. But I'm happy to have a Linux tablet that works!
-
If I'm not mistaken printing is work in progress, so that could land in Ubuntu Touch in a not so distant future.
For A-GPS, that is a know issue as well as the pen which is pretty rare, hence lack of support at the moment.
For the password manager, maybe there are alternatives working on Ubuntu Touch, but yes we lack some support for the popular ones... -
@AppLee these are drawbacks I can live with. I'll keep the pen just in case and maybe there will be solutions once there is support for desktop apps. For now it's just great to have a Ubuntu tablet.
-
There's a keepass app but it doesn't support auto-typing so you have to manually copy.

Now listed and described here: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/mimir/

Got my Volla Tablet with UT some days back. UT works pretty fine but i am not able to get waydroid to run.
-
@Player1 Not a surprise if we trust the device description:
https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/mimir/Let's hope it happens in the near future.
-
@libremax The tablet really doesn't have a fingerprint reader? That seems like an automatic feature these days
-
@kugiigi Not necessarily. My brand new Xiaomi Redmi Pad Pro (2024), under HyperOS 2.1, does not have any fingerprint sensor, but does have an ocular biometric recognition instead. (Don't know about Volla tablet)
-
@kugiigi Don't know; I can't find a full specifications list.
-
@stanwood Ocular? is that face unlock or eyes?
Face unlock seems common too but most of the time just rely on the camera so not that good. I feel like fingerprint unlock is an important feature these days so it's kind of a bummer if this doesn't have one. -
@kugiigi Well, I don't know how exactly this works (I deactivate that stuff). The system scans eyes and face, but no idea how it handles this behind the scene...
-
@kugiigi Although the device itself has not support for a wired external connection, would it be possible to achieve it through a slimport adapter?
Does this adapter provide the required hardware for any device?
I have been searching in the forum and found that the success with a slimport adapter is not a constant. It always depends ... -
@aimar No, slimport is an older tech that also needs hardware support on the device. The only solution is DisplayLink but it is a proprietary tech. In practice, it works on any device since it works through USB but it needs special adapter and app. UT doesn't currently support it or rather it doesn't support UT.

@kugiigi Got it.
Thank you.
