Oneplus One failed

@w0lf3n If you are trying with the USB tethering option, that is not the option you want. You need File transfer option, can't remember if that isexactly what it is called or not but not usb tethering.

I'm selecting mtp file transfer but nothing is happening.

@w0lf3n Now you have that option retry typing (with the phone in normal mode)
adb devices
in a terminal. What do you get.

I'm relying on the Snap version of the installer on the laptop but maybe it's not vital BUT :
I suggest you to try things IN THIS ORDER in your LInux Laptop IF this has not been the case :
- DON'T START THE INSTALLER RIGHT AWAY...
- put your phone in developer mode (I think you've already done it);
- plugging in the phone;
- type adb devices in terminal : your phone should be listed and detected (i hope !).
- NOW, LAUNCH THE INSTALLER and follow the installation procedure.
And if it's doesn't work, you can always try the command line procedure i gave you.
Good luck !

Tried both methods and neither work.
My phone doesn't show in terminal. -
@w0lf3n The cable could be at fault here too. Based on your comments this is completely unrelated to the UBports installer but you'd find the same problems trying to install any Android ROM too.
So, the questions are:
- Can you use the cable simply to transfer files to/from a phone? Does it work and does the transfer succeed?
- Can you try a different USB cable? Some have issues with this - usually the longer cable the worse it can get.
-
No, the computer is not recognising the phone and I have tried 3 USB cables so far.
-
@w0lf3n This is really weird. Maybe some issue with the phone hardware itself then :(.

Your probably right.
Oh well, at least my useless pine phone will have some company in the back of the drawer
Thanks for the help, anyway

OK, so I tried a fourth USB cable and lo and behold it seems to have worked. The Ubports installer Is displaying Flashing firmware and the phone is in fastboot mode, however its been like that for 8 hours. How long does it normally take?
-
@w0lf3n A few mins. Restart everything and choose the wipe option (you have nothing on the phone to keep?).
-
Still nothing, I keep getting error messages and phone asking to be rebooted but goes back to original OS.
I will try again this evening whan I return from work.
-
@w0lf3n When you get back first try using the terminal
adb devices (should show device)
Then
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices (should show device)Then try again.

@w0lf3n I saw a case recently (last week) for installation in a OnePlueOne with similar symptoms as yours.
We solved it going back to an old version of the installer which was the one I used to install in my OnePlusOne. It is this one:
https://github.com/ubports/ubports-installer/releases/tag/0.2.6-beta
This version saw the device immediately and completed the installation without a glitch.

OK,
Device was listed, so I tried again.
Installer is saying preparing system image and phone is saying Cyanogen Recovery with options:
Reeboot system now
Apply updates
Factory reset
Advanced -
@w0lf3n Just leave the installer to do it's stuff.
-
Rebooted phone as it seemed stuck in bootstrap, phone displaying ubports logo.
Re installed and phone updating.
Installer saying success, so hopefully it has worked.
OK, I seem to have Ubuntu installed on my phone
I downgraded the installer to 0.4.18-beta and that worked.
Thanks to all for the suggestions and help.
-
@w0lf3n Well done for sticking with it and getting it done. Enjoy
Can you please mark this thread solved. Use topic tools, ask as question which marks it unsolved then do the same again to mark it solved. This will help others searching for similar issues.

@domubpkm Thanks for posting that - it seems a few of us are having trouble with the installer and having a manual install option is valuable.
I ran the command in fastboot mode and got the following message:
Get https//system-image.ubports.com/channels.json: unsupported protocol scheme ""
Could you point me in the right direction?
