@AppLee, @mardy - Okay. Truth be told I am very interested in volunteering myself. I like writing software and UBports is really doing some excellent work. The currently difficulty I need to solve is employment and then evaluate the pressures this brings with my ability to do volunteer work in addition to all the other adult responsibilities life brings. I need a Belgian ale...

Suggestions/recommendations for Touchscreen laptop/2-in-1/tablet?
I purchased a new unused Nexus 5 to enter this community. I flashed it in February 2019 but I have yet to transfer to this as my primary phone. I considered developing a tablet for a while but I must admit a touchscreen laptop is more desirable in view of their slightly larger size. Are there particular hardware platforms that are suggested or recommended for the desktop development project(s)? The 12.3" Surface Pro tablets could be interesting as these are not too small but size alone does not matter! Did I really write that? Earlier efforts identified the Acer C720P Chromebook as a solid hardware foundation for running lightweight distributions on. While this is smaller than I prefer to use as a primary computer it is also a fully functioning touchscreen. These can be purchased for low cost all over ebay currently.

RE: Trying to understand how developers are performing their work
Hello Everyone,
While I may appear to be new, I have longed for UT for several years. I just purchased an N5 in excellent virtually unused condition. However, I have concerns. I read here the battery has life has improved in xenial. However, my real need is to understand how developers are performing their work. By this, I suspect a debugger is involved. What are the tools involved in this game?
From my perspective, the N5 is certainly suitable to get me in the development game. Older hardware does not bother me. I currently have a 2013 LG Optimus G Pro in perfect condition, I do not tread on my phones, that I would love to begin porting with Halium. However, it makes much more sense for these idealogical goals, or myths to be discussed in the framework of hardware, system architecture, etc., rather than, "I would like to know if my device can be ported."
What can you tell me? I am here to learn and to have fun!

RE: Suggestions/recommendations for Touchscreen laptop/2-in-1/tablet?
I know the T300 Chi & T100ha. These 2-in-1s are not listed on any website but this is almost to be expected. Making something work is a different exercise than documenting the same. I also stumbled across the GaliumOS. Apparently, this is Chromebook specific distribution built on top of Xubuntu and features the Xfce desktop as you might expect. There is a large list of supported devices here:
https://wiki.galliumos.org/Hardware_Compatibility
This suggests integrating the touchscreen capability to Galium should be a useful approach for the Chromebook market. I was very surprised to learn a Chromebook can cost in excess of $500...something seems wrong with this.

RE: OSM Scout Server: offline maps
@magdesign - Your comment regarding the N5 being insufficient is unexpected. I do not know that it is or is not from the perspective of development. However, it makes me wonder what have I observed others accomplish.

RE: will ubuntu touch ever be upgraded past ubuntu 16.10
@AppLee - Thank you for qualifying this issue for me. I do not mind needing to purchase another phone but I would hope I have the opportunity to do so before my current devices lose support. One of these is currently listed as 'inactive' so I want to refrain from residing in this category if possible.

RE: will ubuntu touch ever be upgraded past ubuntu 16.10
The update planned for 20.04 is described as a 'line in the sand' for Ubuntu Touch Edition phones in when you look at the webpage for all devices rather than simply the promoted devices.
I'll copy the paragraph I need help to understand:
Ubuntu Touch Edition*(Support will drop at 20.04 upgrade)*If you have one of the older devices, they are solid for now. Many in our community use them but technical difficulties in updating and closed source elements which we can’t access mean that those devices are not a good choice for anyone just starting with UT. They are also getting aged now and experience hardware faults.
The general language used above to know if a given device will be impacted by this transition. Will there be an announcement indicating which phones will be involved as the 20.04 update approaches? Are the promoted devices free from this concern despite their age?

RE: LG G4 International (H815)
I am interested in the LG G4 as well but there are several variants. It appears the port is making progress
https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/h815/
but it is currently listed as inactive. Whatever, this means I hope work on these devices continue.

RE: OSM Scout Server: offline maps
The N5 has the ability to work with an external keyboard and monitor. I have never tried it on my N5 either. I have seen reports of it working properly. I suppose it's possible this capability was removed in the process of making upgrades to new LTS releases. I do not know the current status of this feature.

RE: Hardware/software options for GPS navigation system?
@cliffcoggin - OSM Scout Server warns the potential user that it has access to the system and displays a warning message regarding this to inform the user before they install it. I do not know if this message is displayed on all phones or devices that attempt to install OSM Scout Server or if the select few it is know to have issues with observe this message.

RE: OSM Scout Server: offline maps
Has anyone tried 'Convergence' w/Nexus 5 with OSM Scout Server & Pure Maps? This is the configuration I need!

RE: Hardware/software options for GPS navigation system?
What about OSM Scout Server coupled with Pure Maps. These are in the UT App Store.
The only concern I have is will it treat my Nexus 5 okay in view of the warning you receive when you attempt to install OSM Scout Server?

RE: Got a Lenovo M10 TB-605/X....
@luksus - Thanks for the reply. I will continue searching. The X605F is very difficult to locate at the moment. I located an application called Navit that I am looking into as well. I contacted the developers to inquire about hardware recommendations.
