      @theprivacydad

Thanks for sharing your experience with UT!

I also had a hard time in the beginning. It took me and a friend alone 3 days to install it.
With windows 10 we desperately failed.
To wait one week, before Xaomi opened the boot loader, it made things not easier.
On Linux Mint than we succeed.

With the community I made the same experience like you: they are very supportive.

After they told me about waydroid, things went easier. It made it possible, to use it as my daily smartphone.

I love the idea of a open source system, what is build neither on android nor iOS.
This is my motivation, to go thru the challenges andΒ stay on UT.

My impression is, that there is a lot of potential with in the community and the developers.
I think, more sooner than later UT it will grow exponential.

In the last Q&A (176) Marius said, he will build a group, that sort out, how to optimize UT for the normal user.
I am confidant this will bring the system way more forward, in terms of usability.

    • RE: Signal UT: Signal-Desktop for Ubuntu Touch

      @pparent
I liked to do something for UT and to maybe can use Signal soon, so why not!?
I am not a programmer, so this was one thing I cut do.
I formulated it in a positive and constructive way, so I am happy with it.

    • RE: Cant install Whatsapp or Signal on Waydroid

Ok, this was what I didnt understand, that I have to install Molly in the waydroid container.

Done! Thanks a lot for helping me!

Now I can (nearly*) leave the android universe and move to Ubuntu touch.

*"nearly" because of the waydroid container

With the change to UT I also changed to the Xiaomi pocco X3. The batterie of the Pocco is huge in compare to my smartphone before. So I am happy anyway.

    • Organic Maps on Ubuntu Touch

      Hello,
view weeks ago I started to switch from Android (Calyx OS) to Ubuntu Touch.
I use my smartphone also as a freelancer and need to relay on it.
I tried few Navigation Apps and Organic Maps works at its best for me. It is, in a good way, simple, to use.

I wrote to them, if they like to adapted it to UT.

I have no idea in programming, but I wanted to share the answer:

      "Hi O.....

We would love to support the development of OM for UT more actively, but our resources are very limited. With enough donations or active contributors/developers the situation may change.

There's already the cross-platform C++ core, only the good UI should be developed on top of it (although it's a lot of work…)

What are your thoughts/ideas on that?

      With best regards,

      Alexander Borsuk
      Software Engineer & Co-Founder @ Organic Maps

Support the development of free, privacy-focused, open-source maps:"

Current status of Organic Maps on Ubuntu Touch

Resolds of the correspondence between Alexander from Organic Maps and pparent

Well we are exchanging, but it turns out that their desktop Interface based on Qt is quite different from the one of Android/iOS and is more geared towards development for now and not adapted at all to mobile, so that's not ideal. ( At first I thought the Android app itself was based on Qt )

The good news is someone proposed to work on making this interface more user-friendly at least on desktop https://github.com/orgs/organicmaps/discussions/11805 , although I'm not sure how responsive it will be.

We also discussed about making a snap and a deb package. But anyway I think the best for now might be to wait and see what comes out of this new interface development and wait for Qt6 to be released on Ubuntu Touch, which we need to be able to do a port to the openstore.

Also what I have just asked him is weather their Qt app supports navigation. Because I cannot find it in the Qt desktop app ( but I don't have any GPS sensor on my desktop ). Because if there is no navigation in the Qt app, the use of this ported app might be quite limited, until they possibly develop this feature in Qt.

Also it turns out their Android app is in Java, using the Android API, so this app itself is not easily portable to Ubuntu Touch, only their Qt/Desktop app is.

By the way sorry I realize I forgot to reply. You can post the infos. By the way they told me that for now the Qt application does not include navigation as the Adroid App does, but that it could be added easily because navigation exists within their core C++ app.

I agreed to try to find time to create a deb package and then maybe a snap package for their app, this would allow to have a first preview inside Ubuntu Touch as well, on top of giving visibility to their Qt app.

One question: I changed my simcard this days, because the old one did not work anymore. But somehow I lost my whatsweb connection. Now I don`t know how log in again. I have no old smartphone to scan the code or do it with a phone number? How can I lock in again?

@Vlad-Nirky Ok, I am sure to installed it from Android 10.
So have you any suggestion how I can fix it? I use the microphone very often, so it would makes things much easier to solve it.

    • No Network Connectivity – microphone is not working

Now I am using UT for few month as a daily device. Till voicemails are working on Signal, without waydroit, things went easier. But two issues I still have day for day, with makes things demanding.

The microphone don't work anymore, after I switch few times from app to app. Nether for recording, nor Whats App or Signal.
When I reboot the system, it works again till the next few switches.

The second thing is, that the Network Connectivity jump, without doing anything, from the first to the second sim card (the second sim card is usable only for calls), and than there is no Connectivity.l.

Have anybody an Idea what I can to?

My device is a Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC

@pparent I canΒ΄t send pictures at the moment, but I try to describe it.

There is a possibilities to set an emoticon: direct on the left beside the text "(-:" This doesn't work on my phone.

But now I found out, that there is another possibility on the downside between "where you can change to numbers". The button shows like a "earth".
So for me is ok now, but first I did not know the second way to set a smiley.
