@chdslv We are always here to help and assist where we can. However we will not allow the issues you have been made well aware of.
If you have another issue or problem regaurding Ubuntu Touch you will be welcome to post it on the forum. The Community is here to help.

Thank you for the help offer, that is, if I buy the OPO. N5 will be sold, so the problem is over.

Only, please understand, the OP is "Observations on battery life - please share your experiences" and I was writing about my observations and experiences on the phone that I own, not on other phones. I wrote about my "observations" before this thread.

Anyway, the N5 battery problems are over, at least for me. If I buy the OPO, and if I find any problems other than the battery, I'll ask. There's no need to antagonize anyone on something that can't be solved.

@chdslv It's not that anyone thinks it's unimportant, but as we have said many times before the issue is well known.
This has been done to death now.

For those, who have been here for a long time, it might be an old horse, but for me, who had bought a N5 few weeks ago just to install UT, it is a big problem. Might as well go back to stock rom.

    • RE: N5 battery usage in UT and in Android

@dobey It is too old a phone to worry too much about it. The battery just drained, so I moved it back to stock Android to see how it works with it. It is the same battery and the same phone.

(Two hours ago, I moved the phone to Pie 9 based on Lineage OS 16.0, also experimental. Swiping from bottom, all installed apps are shown, swipe from top notifications bar - editable, open apps can be seen moving from left to right and back at half size. And, it has only 12 apps, other than the system ones.)

This old phone is going to be used for experimenting. Going back and forth from Android to UT is easy. Hope one day, a better phone would be ported to UT. Cannot use N5 for daily use with UT, would have to carry a powerbank. After all that flashing and all, the battery state is 39% now, at 6:30 p.m on the 2nd day with Android.

@lakotaubp Do you have a N5 to compare with OPO? There are few OPO's out there to buy, but not really sure.

@advocatux Well, if you think it is not a real problem, then that's all right with me. I might as well forget about UT completely.

Fairphone 2 and Oneplus Ones are more "flagship devices" than the Nexus models nowadays.

Are you saying in these old phones the batteries don't drain in idle state in UT as in N5?

    • RE: Observations on battery life - please share your experiences

@lakotaubp Comparing to Android will not help move this issue on .

There are no dedicated phones for UT, only those that had come with Android, meaning were manufactured to work on Android, other than the few that once had UT. At the moment, the flagship devices are more or less N4 and N5, so the only way to test them on UT is by comparing how they worked, or the battery worked while on the OS they was designed for. For example, if the battery drains much faster in idle state in UT than in Android, then there is a problem with UT, but not with N5.

(I don't have any other devices that would boot UT, other than N5, and I bought it just for that. Searched for quite a while to find a decent N5 with a good battery.)

UT is an after market rom for older phones that don't get any Android updates. But, it is eating the battery.

@wgarcia The question is, why the battery drains much faster in UT than in Android in the same N5 phone in idle state. And, if we are talking about a "faulty" phone, even for Android, why not go for a newer phone? (Of course, the 2nd question is not liked. )

      @alan_g
I explained how I tried to use the N5 in the other thread. The phone was left without use for more than 8 hours. WiFi, LTE was off. Was not on flight mode. Battery level was shown on the notification bar.

Then, I moved the phone over to Android to check the battery usage in idle mode, otherwise there's no way to compare. I wrote what I found out. Then I moved the phone back to UT, and the battery started draining again very fast.

Keeping the phone at this stage on UT would put it and the battery on strain, so I moved it back to Android (Pie 9). Someone said that there's bug of not putting some apps to sleep in UT. Normally a mobile phone goes to sleep when left alone.

The only way to check the difference is by moving the phone back to Android to compare. And, it should be the same phone with the same battery.

No matter what we do, there will be unhappiness. We have learned to live with it 😉

It is not a matter of unhappiness. If anyone is using UT/UBPorts, it is because it brings happiness. So, if anyone is suggesting something, it is not "complaining." 🙂

@dobey Explaining this matter, the last time.
I bought this N5 after reading this https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io and whole lot of forum posts here. N4 and N5 were supposed to be ones that would work fully with UT. Bought the phone only for testing UT. (I have no interest in buying an older phone to use with Android, mind you.) When I noticed the battery drain, I had to choose; either change the battery or check how it works in its original state. So, I chose check the N5 in its original state. I posted the results, thinking it would help the community, rather than antagonizing it. I am new here, by the way.

I agree as it is my phone, it is my problem.

@Lakotaubp says OPO's battery is doing well. There are few OPOs out here to buy, for more less the same price as the N5. The idea is to test UT with a phone. If I buy it, it is my problem then, so won't post on the battery status, or on any other matter.
