RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 148 Call for Questions
@UBportsNews Application development for Gnome on Mobile has been gaining some momentum lately and there already are some nice apps available. Is it technically possible / feasible / advisable to let Gnome Mobile apps run on UBports Ubuntu Touch? Or will it be ever in the future?
You see the mobile adapted applications if you search for #libadwaita in the following list:

RE: Volla Phone Quintus
@messayisto Thanks a lot! I am currently using a Volla 22 with Ubuntu Touch and the Volla Quintus is now on my shopping list.

RE: Volla Phone Quintus
@UBportsNews Is it known who is the manufacturer/producer of the new Volla Quintus hardware? Is it still Gigaset or another producer?

RE: From what I read/saw about the apps,
Hi @oidjhfhnnxoji , what apps do you mean? Almost all Ubuntu Touch apps that I am using are native apps, e.g. Axolotl, Pure Maps, Talaan, Notes, Tagger, TELEports, Seabass, ...

RE: How do you use UT?
@Nymexx Hi, I use my Volla 22 with UBPorts as daily driver. I have no other phone or tablet.
- This means, I use it for communication: Axolotl (Signal), TELEports (Telegram), Cinny (Matrix), SMS and Phone calls (typically with 2 SIM cards).
- I use it for navigation (uNav and Pure Maps) and for bus/train routing (Fahrplan).
- I use it for web browsing (Morph and Sapot browser) and authentication (Authenticator NG).
- I use it for photo and video taking (default apps), and listening to music.
- I use it for note-taking and to do lists (Notes, Talaan, Seabass2)
- Furthermore, some tools such as Tagger, Terminal, unitConverter, Calculator, ...

@beyolf That's amazing. I am looking forward to VoLTE news

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 135 Call For Questions
Thanks for another Q&A. I would be interested in knowing how the relationship is between the UbPorts team and producers/vendors of supported hardware, such as Volla, FairPhone, Pine, ... How does cooperation work with them?
Hardware-related things like VoLTE or Miracast screen mirroring seems to be things where cooperation is particularly important.

RE: Focal/20.04 is out for quite a while now. You still use Xenial/16.04? I would like to know what stops you from upgrading?
Hi, thanks for the question. I am still using Xenial on Volla 22. I have not yet upgraded to Focal, because I use the phone as a daily driver and I am lacking information what will be not working anymore after the upgrade. Lack of information is the main problem for me.
There are at least three sources to figure out what will not work with the Volla 22 on Focal [1],[2],[3] and they are not encouraging, although I am not sure whether some information is outdated.
For example, source [1] tells me that on Focal "Cellular data is not available on SIM 2 when two are inserted". If this is still correct, this would be a problem for me.
For example, source [2] did not give much information whether it is safe to upgrade to Focal, and I am not sure whether the problem with Telegram still exists that messages / settings do not get transferred correctly to Focal.
For example, source [3] does not yet give information on OTA-4 and it is unclear what of the "Known Issues" still exist.
Additionally to that, I have data in the "Notes" app which has not yet been ported to Focal.

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 130 call for questions
@UBportsNews Question: Besides UBPorts, there are a few other Linux on mobile ecosystems around: Plasma Mobile and Gnome Shell on mobile (Phosh). I wanted to ask whether there is any chance that the ecosystems can work (closer) together?
Related to this, is it technically possible to build an app ecossystem where apps run on UbPorts, Plasma Mobile and Gnome Shell mobile? -
RE: Automatic update to OTA-3 Focal . What do users need to consider before updating?
Thanks @arubislander , I think with OTA-3 it will be different (no change in update channels necessary). Everyone will be prompted to update to OTA-3 Focal, if I interpret the UBPorts blog correctly:
"Existing users of Ubuntu Touch on Stable channel (which is selected by default in the UBports Installer) will receive the OTA-3 upgrade by using the Updates screen of System Settings."
"There is also the system update broadcast facility, which will send each online device a trigger message. If the device can find its update, it will be downloaded for you and when everything is ready, a notification will pop up and you can install right away."

RE: Automatic update to OTA-3 Focal . What do users need to consider before updating?
@domubpkm Thanks for the info on Teleports. I am using Telegram/Teleports just on a UT smartphone (no other device). What can I do to keep the chats/account when updating to OTA-3 Focal?

Automatic update to OTA-3 Focal . What do users need to consider before updating?
I have a question regarding the automatic update from Xenial to Focal OTA-3: As a user, is there anything important to consider before updating to Focal, which is different from the experience with within-Xenial OTA updates?

RE: Focal 20.04 OTA-3 Available Now
@UBportsNews Amazing news! Thanks for all the hard work!
Edit: I have a question regarding the automatic update from Xenial to Focal: As a user, is there anything important to consider before updating to Focal, which is different from the experience with within-Xenial OTA updates? --> Edit2: I now asked the question here: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/9544/automatic-update-to-ota-3-focal-what-do-users-need-to-consider-before-updating (thanks @Moem for pointing this out)

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 126 call for questions
@UBportsNews What core apps do you consider still missing in the Focal repository (as compared to Xenial)? What apps do you consider important that you want app developers to focus on them? I noticed that at least two core apps are still missing in Focal: "Notes" and "UT Tweak Tool".

RE: Status of VoLTE (Voice over LTE 4G) implementation?
Thanks @wally , my experience with Telus (in Canada) and UBPorts on Volla22 was not positive, unfortunately. With the Telus SIM, I could use mobile internet, but could not place/receive calls. I could receive SMS, but was not able to send them.

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 125 call for questions
1// I would be interested to know your advice on how and when to transition to Focal for ordinary users. For example, I use a Volla22 as daily driver and would like to know when it is safe to update to Focal.
2// Thanks for giving some insight into VoLTE progress in the last Q&A. I would be interested to know whether Sysmocom and Volla are still working on it or whether VoLTE support solely relies on the UB Ports core team.

RE: Status of VoLTE (Voice over LTE 4G) implementation?
@fairose That really depends on the country:
- In Canada, to my knowledge, only the Rogers/Fido network works without VoLTE, because they still support 2G/GSM. The other networks don't.
- In Germany, most networks seem to work as they still support GSM/2G. At least, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Telefonica...

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 123 call for questions
@UBportsNews Thanks for the upcoming Q&A. I would like to know about the progress / status of VoLTE for UBPorts. Thanks!

Axolotl / Signal: I can't send messages in Canada, but in Germany. Any solutions?
Hi all,
I use Axolotl / Signal on my Volla 22 UbPorts everyday. It worked fine when I was in Germany, but after flying to Canada, it stopped working. I can receive messages, but I get an error message (a red exclamation mark) when I try to send messages.
This happens without having made any changes to the SIM (the German SIM which was used to register Signal is still in the phone) and also if I add a Canadian SIM to the phone. Also, it doesn't matter if I am on 3G/4G or WiFi. BTW, Signal had worked in Canada with my phone a couple of months ago, but not now anymore.Do you know any solution to my problem? Thanks!
