    • Morph Browser can't pan nor zoom on maps based on OpenStreetMap

      Hello,

      This issue was mentioned in this topic, but there was no reply - and since this topic discussed many different issues, I figure it be best to create a dedicated one.

      On map websites using OpenStreetMap data, I cannot find a way to pan or zoom the map.

      • Pinching with two fingers on the screen zooms the whole page rather than the map window.
      • Swiping one or two fingers produces no effect for panning.

      The result is that the following sites are basically unusable:

      • https://www.openstreetmap.org
      • https://maps.openrouteservice.org
      • https://gpxstudio.github.io/
      • GpxPod app in Nextcloud (you can check out this gpx trace on my personal Nextcloud server)

      This issue can be reproduced on the following two devices:

      • OnePlus One running the RC channel (currently 2020-W33 / 20200809-26523 UBports image)
      • Pinephone running the Development channel (2020-08-13/2 / 20200809-31327 UBports image)

      Of course Activity Tracker and Pure Maps can import gpx traces, but they can't edit them. Also, neither uNav nor Pure Maps support multiple destinations in trips.

      I doubt there is a workaround available, but I'd be willing to hear it if there's one.

      Should I create an issue on the tracker? (I have no idea where to)

      Thanks!

      In OTA-13 there will be upgraded chromium core from around v62 to version 77, it is improvement in performance and compatibility. It will bring better text selection too.

      Hello,

      Do you know if this updated version is in RC yet, or is it still on the Dev channel?

      Thanks.

      @3T_Ed said in PinePhone Latest Update:

      I would consider the Pinephone as a replacement for the OPO. It seems to me the relatively small group of devs have gone through great length to get UT working on Pinephone, great job!

      That's what I did. I've run Ubuntu Touch on an OPO purchased used for almost a year now, and I can't wait for my Pinephone to be ready to take its place. The OPO has superior specs but it's riddled with issues I am sick to death with. Randomly losing wifi, losing auto-rotate both necessiting a reboot; but battery indicator stuck at 50% after reboot, I need to reboot up to 10 times in a row before it goes back to normal.

      Anyway, sorry for the rant, this is supposed to be about the Pinephone... I know it's going to take a while to iron out the issues.

      @dobey
      It cannot be the "best way" when you cannot actually open the OSK. It is for example impossible to select and copy text off a web page (as is the OP's issue) to paste in another app. Recently I had no choice but to retype a block of text manually, it is quite tedious.

      By the way, if anyone wants to work on an offline and multi account client for Mastodon, Pinaforce would be a really good base: https://pinafore.social/

      Thanks for the suggestion! I just tried it with my account, it seems quite fast, and the scrollbar on the right side is wide enough to actually be able to use it! (so far I'd found nearly no usable scrollbars on UT because they were all so thin they're impossible to grab)

      I might make a webapp of it for myself with Webber.

      In my opinion this is a UT limitation. Any content where you're trying to select text (web page in Morph browser, or any web app) will behave that way. It's only within the on-screen keyboard that you can select whatever string of text you want. It's been like this for me since I started using UT 4 months ago.

      No issue either. I'm on the RC channel (if that matters), and in uMastonauts I use the fosstodon.org instance.

      Answering the question regarding pace of PinePhone BH sales. There are two ways to look at it - a positive way and a less positive way.

      The BH edition took a little more time to sell than I initially thought, but hey, it did get sold out, right? So I think this is really good news, and encouraging for the next phase. The more so if you guys manage to have the
      attachable keyboard ready by then. I'm sure it's going to be a huge inticement!

      Fact is, I had the PinePhone product page opened up in a tab of my phone's browser for a few days, when I finally decided to take the plunge it was too late 😄 (I wouldn't have hesitated if the keyboard had been available as well!)

      What has me most concerned is not the hardware, but the software. As far as I understand it, UT is the FOSS OS the most ready, and already in use (it's been my daily driver for the past 3-4 months). But it's riddled with annoyances and missing important stuff that means one must really, really be dedicated to use it. Not unlike the state of desktop Linux 12 years ago. I fear it may deter a lot of potential buyers once the final PinePhone is released.

      @dreamwebspace
      Odd, I use Keepit without issue, it opens kdbx files.
      My only wish is that it would allow creating new entries. I have to create them on my desktop, then upload the updated file to my phone.

      I tried Keepweb but couldn't make it work.

      @sorath72 Just curious, are there really plan nowadays, which has that expensive data included? Actually even the cheapest plan has nowadays unlimited data included.

      That may be true in your country, but please do not assume it is the same in all other countries.

      In Canada we are getting ripped off by phone companies (ISP's as well). Unlimited data is only available with expensive plans.

      Actually I just had a quick look at two providers, neither offers unlimited data, the most is up to 12GB a month for $85 CAD (59€). In any case, many of us absolutely do not want to spend as much money on mobile service.

    • RE: Camera freeze after taking photo

      @saveurlinux
      As suggested in the comments of the bug report linked by @Flohack, have you tried a long swipe from right to left to bring up the list of opened apps?

      I occasionally have the camera freeze on my OPO (on rc channel), doing a long swipe left then selecting the camera app again usually unfreezes the camera for me.

    • RE: OnePlus One Battery At 50% Issue

      On my OPO the battery indicator almost always gets stuck at 50% after a reboot. In such cases I often need to reboot multiple times in a row before the battery indicator returns to normal. I've had charging issue only once, soon after I got my OPO from eBay. The vendor had supposedly recently replaced the battery - there is some damage on the edges of the casing, indicating it has been forced open, so I assume he did change the battery. There's a bulge at the back of the phone which seems to indicate overheating.

      I can't wait to get a new device to put UT on it (waiting for the Pinephone).

      This Pinephone review by a postmarketOS developer seems to indicate that OTG is supported... But maybe he's making an assumption?

      I guess we'll get the definitive answer when @PINE64 comes back to the topic.

    • RE: Simple UI documentation, need some help.

      @magdesign
      Hello, and welcome. I too find the UT user documentation sorely lacking, and I struggled at first to find out how to perform the simplest tasks. I get the feeling that what documention there is was written by developers, not end users.

      I have experience writing documentation for open source projects, but as mentioned by @poVoq, a big change is due in the next big update (OTA-12), and to be honest I'm kind of taking a break after years of involvement in another (unrelated) project.

      One tip I'd like to provide: I didn't like the white background for the Apps scope. You can change it in System settings/Background, enable the "Dashboard background" toggle. (Not sure of the exact name of the settings, as my system is in French)

      I'm not sure. But have a look at the December update on the PINE64 blog, they're planning to provide a physical keyboard for the Pinephone. I'm pretty sure I'll want one 😄

      https://www.pine64.org/2019/12/05/december-update-thank-you-for-2019/

      Funny quote:

      We're sorry for this delay, but we don't want to cut corners on the Brave Heart batch and shove it out the door just to make the originally announced 2019 release schedule.

      Uh, I wonder if it's a reference to another Linux phone project... 😜

      BTW, here's a Pinephone review by someone who got a developer phone:

      https://drewdevault.com/2019/12/18/PinePhone-review.html

      It's really promising!

      I'm afraid I can't answer here - it much exceeds my knowledge.
      I would just like to clarify my statement about GPS positioning: my problem is not one of accuracy, it's that it loses its position altogether. When I use an app that requires GPS tracking, either it never starts tracking, or it loses tracking along the way; sometimes I get tracking back, sometimes I don't.

      Thanks, but it's a bit premature, isn't it? I don't have a Pinephone, and I specifically mentioned that I am unsure if ordering a Brave Heart would be useful as I'm only an end user.

      @GizmoChicken said in PinePhone:

      Given that there will soon an influx of PinePhone users who want to run UT on their shiny new Linux phones, I hope that UBports will focus like a laser on PinePhone development for the next few months, even if that means other priorities are delayed for a short time.

      I tend to agree, but I'm not sure how many resources they can dedicate to porting on a specific device. The UBports team is small, and they still need to work on the core OS.

      As a user very interested in the Pinephone, and not able to contribute in development, I wonder what we can do to help make sure UT is ported to the Pinephone in time for the planned March release? From what I could gather, UT may have a head start over postmarketOS. Would contributing financially help so that at least one dev can work on it full time?

      I've also been wondering if I should go for a Brave Heart edition. I guess with enough pointers I'd be able to install UT on it, but would a simple user's feedback really help, for example with testing and bug reporting?
