    • RE: OSM Scout Server: offline maps

      Hi there,
anyone ever had the error code 99?
I had successfully downloaded two maps and tried them in offline mode. Everything worked fine. I was very very pleased. After that it was not possible again to download any other maps. It says "Network access disabled". However, the wifi network is on, and I didn't change any settings. Of course I restarted everything a few times.

      Any idea what happened?

    • RE: 'crazy Volla'

      Well,kl.k รค n j
My phone is bare ly ubskmkl รคl ukhs usable anymore because of this scary ghost touches. I just wanted to sign in to an account and gave up after 15 minutes.

As you can see by the text above, sometimes I can write stuff, sometimes it just types nonsense by itself or doesn't response at all. Sometimes it is messing with my configurations (e.g. by turning stuff in and off through the head bar; wifi, sound, etc). More and more nothing works at all.

I don't have the capacity at the moment to set up a new ubuntu touch phone. And I've never used or want to use any Apple or Android smortphone. I hate this at the moment. And the fact that nobody seems to get how the ghost touches appear makes it so weird; often enough I thought someone else is messing with my phone remotely.

PS: didn't expect to get this far with typing after the start was very very not promising. I need to turn off the screen a lot in between to be able to type

I'm kind of reliefed to see that others describe these "ghost touches", too.

So far, I just live with it. But with a growing number of freezes, unwanted crashs of apps and system restarts I'm aware that I need to do something about it.

I've tried removing the screen protection once, but that didn't solve the problem of ghost touches for me.

    • RE: Forum migration

I have to say it too: it is really hard to read now with this current orange-grey-purple color scheme. Also, the colors don't fit to each other. In german we'd say: those colors "bite each other". Honestly I'm really annoyed, it kind of hurts my eyes, please go back to the old style. Thanks a lot ๐Ÿค“

    • Extra functions for fingerprint sensor?

      Hi,
I wonder if we can assign additional functions to the fingerprint sensor? Well, I can't, because I'm not really a programmer. But here are my thoughts: last week, for the first time ever, I have used a fingerprint sensor (FS) to unlock my phone. Works ok. Long time I was against digitizing my fingerprint, but my phone is now to big for my thumb to reach all the numbers for the pin when holding it in one hand.
Also, and that's really annoying sometimes, I cannot open the menu (swiping from the left) when holding my current phone (Volla) with just the right hand (that was possible with Nexus5 and BQ 4.5) And that's when I got the idea to open the menu by touching the FS. That would be so comfortable: 1x touch FS= start screen, 2nd touch = unlock, touch FS when unlocked = open menu.

What do you think? Opinions anyone?

    • RE: Tshirt request

It would be great if those merch shirts and hoodies were organic and fair (in the future?). In case ubports is interested, I have good contacts to a small firm that does eco-prints on fair-eco stuff (GOTS, FWF) in Germany. I would gladly help. Just saying ๐Ÿ™‚

    • RE: Sapot browser

Something else: I tested browser security via https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/. Thanks to uAdblock I have a strong protection against tracking. Problem: with Morph Browser i have a "nearly unique fingerprint", with Sapot "a unique fingerprint". Why is there a difference (nearly unique vs unique)? What can be done to be not that unique? Is there anything that can be done to adress the key problem that UT users are probably just more easily identifyable because there are so few of us? Does anyone of you use VPN with your phone?

    • German Warntag: did you get a sms warning?

In Germany, today was a special nation-wide testing of several warning systems, called "Warntag". One new element are warnings via SMS ("Cell Broadcast"). I've read that this is device dependent, e.g. IPhone 6 or higher. Anyway, did any Ubuntu touch users in Germany receive a SMS at 11 am?
I, using a Volla Phone, didn't get anything. Also the "Warnapp Deutschand" didn't give me any warning notification, but the "Entwarnung" (all-clear signal) just came in via push.
I want to figure out how much of this is due to our OS, our devices or just messed-up by our federal administrations.

@lduboeuf Wow thanks, that was easy - I just deleted the folder and rebooted ๐Ÿ˜„
So know I can read new received SMS again, but I do not have the old ones. Anyway, that's not essential.

I copied the folders from a Nexus 5. Are there other known issues when copying data from halium 9 to 10/11? I still haven't transferred the dekko2-files... ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Messages App does not work

      Hi everyone,
I just bought myself an early x-mas present. A Volla phone. By copying certain folders I was able to bring most of my data and settings to my new phone. But it didn't work for the sms messages. I thought it would work to copy (from the hidden folders) from .local -> share -> history services. First of all it didn't bring back my old messages (list of calls), it also destroyed the app. It does not show any new SMS after that procedure. I do get a notification and I can see them in preview. I didn't backup the original folder in my volla-phone, as I only got 2 sms before doing the data transfer.

I certainly could "just" set up my OS completely again, but I've already put so much energy in it the last two days. Isn't there a quick and easy solution to make this work again?

      Thanks.

@mschmids hi, so far I did not get it to start on the Volla Phone (by using only waydroid helper app). I've tried 3 times install/de-install... Should I try it via terminal instead?

@eacelmar I'm having my first day with my new Vollaphone. Waydroid doesn't work, so far. It gets stuck at the start screen. But I'm not sure whether I did everything right. With my Nexus 5 I did never try to install it.

    • RE: Suddenly many things stopped working

Thank you all for your answers. The issue is solved now.
Regarding the usb connection: After two days I brought a cable which I had stored in my office. And it worked. Not like the 5 or 6 others I'd tried...

Email then stopped working on my laptop as well. After one day it magically worked again. Probably this did not have anything to do with my phone.

After changing between channels my phone was really slow. It's better now, and I am back on stable. Energy consumption is still high; this could simply be heat + age of phone.

In conclusion: everything is kind of ok and Ubuntu Touch is still great. Thank you ALL ๐Ÿค—

    • Suddenly many things stopped working

      Hi,
My (newer) Nexus 5 has some problems: suddenly I couldn't connect to my laptops anymore via USB. I've tried different cables, different laptops and installed several UT channels, the problem remains. Although, power for the phone battery is transferred the computer won't recognize my device.
At the same time Dekko stopped working properly: A least I cannot send mails + notifications for new incomming mails fails. In addition, my phone got much slower and energy consumption went up.
Similar problems anyone? How should I handle this? Is it the new UT version? I had done my last update on July 1st, but it worked fine initially.

      Best regards

      @coline5035
Hi! I had this problem once. Maybe it's about hardware: Are you usinig a docking station for your laptop? That was the reason it didn't work for me. Also, try different usb-cables.

    • RE: How to create a plant identification app for ubuntu touch?

I would lovesuch an app! This is really one if the few things I've always missed as a UT-user. What I did is using the web-version of pl@nt.net (https://identify.plantnet.org/) and then I created an app with webber. It's slow, and I don't know what functions I am missing compared to Android and iphone. Anyway, still faster and more accurate than me identifying plants by looking it up in a book ๐Ÿ™‚
Looking forward to a real UT solution ๐Ÿ˜„
