@stanwood Oops! I have always checked for updates via the Settings App. After your comments, I tried looking at installed apps via Software Centre, which listed 5 pending updates, including Dekko2. Having applied those updates, it is working fine again. Thanks for the important clue.

@povoq When I 'check for updates' nothing relating to Dekko2 is listed. I am fairly scrupulous at checking for, and adopting, all offered updates for installed apps.

I have installed OTA-16 on my Nexus 5, and overall, it looks brilliant. Well done to everyone involved.

However, I have one problem. It might be coincidence, but since the installation, Dekko2 has become unstable. On opening, the Dekko2 logo appears, as expected, but then the screen goes blank and the app hangs. New incoming messages continue to be flagged by 'Notifications', but I can't actually open any of them. Any thoughts?

Huge apologies if I have hit the wrong place / wrong forum, but can anyone tell me whether there are any plans for a second release of the Community Edition of the UT version of the Pinephone? Or, failing that, whether if I buy whatever version of the Pinephone I can lay hands on - e,g., Manjaroo - I would be able to port UT onto it?

[I successfully ported UT onto a Nexus 5, but I have had a bit of a physical accident with it, and I want to move on.]

@hummlbach Thanks for the help and for the email attachment, which I successfully transferred to the phone and installed. Unfortunately, the effect is the same - still no new messages since November 21st when I set up the account on the phone.

I have spotted something that may be of interest in dekkod.log: in the log file the connection security is shown as STARTTLS, whereas it should be SSL/TLS. I don't know enough about such things to be able to understand the difference / possible significance.

i have solved to second problem using utext instead of tedit. I can now see dekkod.log in logviewer. I have now got to work out how to send it to you! The last two entries on the log read:

First problem is that ~/.cache/upstart/application-click-dekko2.dekkoproject_dekko_*.log doesn't seem to exist.... I looked for it using file manager and also using logviewer.
Second problem is that I can't work out how to edit ~/.config/dekko2.dekkoproject/dekkod.conf in the way you have advised, though I can at least find that file. I have installed tedit if that helps.

I'm afraid we also need the log of the background process. Thats a bit trickier. First we need to enable logging, by setting Enabled=1 in the [StdStreamLog] section of the config file ~/.config/dekko2.dekkoproject/dekkod.conf. After restarting the phone (or only dekkod by issuing the command restart dekkod), you'll find the log as dekkod.log in ~/.cache/upstart/.

I have recently installed UT on a Nexus 5, and, because it is so vital for me to be able to check emails on it when away from home, I installed Dekko2. It was great to see more or less the same look and feel that I had enjoyed previously with my earlier bq Aquarus 4.5 Ubuntu Edition. I had no problems installing Dekko2, nor setting up an IMAP email account, I could send messages, reply to messages, delete messages - though 'delete' is a bit 'flaky'. However, though my 'as it was at the time of setting up the email account' inbox (and, indeed, sent mail box) were available on the phone, I have been totally unable to receive any subsequent new messages on the phone.

Following advice read elsewhere on this forum I have tried deleting the email account / cleaning .cache and .config / then recreating the email account, uninstalling / reinstalling Dekko2, rebooting, starting / stopping dekkod, several times, in several combinations, but always with the same effect: i.e., the complete inbox as at the moment of account (re)set-up reappears, along with the complete sent folder. But subsequently, though messages that I send from the phone get added to Sent mail, nothing new comes into the inbox.

I use a Ubuntu desktop and I am a passionate enthusiast about UT, and Dekko, though I have limited technical skills and knowledge.

Can anyone help, please? Not being able to check new emails on the phone is a show-stopper for me.

I have tried the 'sledge-hammer' approach: delete all email accounts, uninstall Dekko2, clear residual Dekko files in .cache and in .config, reboot, reinstall, re-set up one IMAP account, and ...... same situation! [This is all on a brand-new (one week ago) installation of UT on a Nexus 5.]

PS Whilst rummaging through the file store I spotted folders relating to Evolution. Is this just some random hangover from Canonical's original ambitions, or is some version of Evolution available on UT?

Thanks for those thoughts. I have tried close / restart Dekko2, and rebooting. No difference. I thought that I set up the email address as IMAP but I'll check. My email server can be accessed as either IMAP or POP3, but I thought I selected IMAP.

I note there are alternatives to Dekko2 in the Openstore. Are any of those reliable.

My Storyboard: I purchased a BQ Aquarius 4.5 back in 2015 and I had been using it, running Canonical's original UT, as my daily / only phone up to about 2 months ago, when I accidentally physically destroyed it. I absolutely loved it so today I was delighted when I finally laid hands on a new boxed Nexus 5 and I have installed UBports UT on it. I am basically very pleased, but I have two serious problems with Dekko2 that I didn't have with the original Dekko.

1 When I set up my primary email account as an IMAP account, all my existing inbox / sent messages appeared as I would have hoped. I am able to send emails quite happily - except Dekko2 does not connect to my contacts, nor does it seem to enable its own private address book - as was the case with original Dekko. Thus to start a fresh email thread I have to retype all 'to' email addresses, which is crazy! Am I doing something wrong?

2 Even more worryingly, though all my existing messages flooded in when I set up the email account, I have not been able to receive any subsequent messages. Am I doing something wrong?

My old, original, bq e4.5 Ubuntu edition is still functioning under the latest 15.10 version of the system available to it. I have been looking into migrating to UBports 16.04 version. All the instructions for such an update seem to assume that my phone is running Android as the starting point, but it isn't! I have downloaded the installer onto my Ubuntu 18.04 desktop. Is it safe to proceed with this installer, ignoring the references to Android, or should I hold off? My phone still works, and does what I want of it, but of course it hasn't had any security or functionality updates for ages.
