@Luksus In my case nothing happened as the partition was already 786432 blocks long, so that did not help.

What I am more wondering about is why is the partition table created exactly like it is? It's clearly made by Ubuntu Installer and not Android (when Android [e.g. LineageOS] is installed, the partition table is definitely different.) And the partitions are crazy (see below)

So I hypothesise that it's possible to change the partition table setup [e.g. create root at /dev/sdaX, see below] at installation time, but not sure yet how -- any ideas?

Also, I see that /dev/sde is 4GB. I wonder if this is on the hardware level, or there is another mapping level done by linux kernel -- will check this again by reinstalling Android and looking at the devices. journalctl or dmesg don't hint whether or not these are separate devices; however, udev shows each of them has its own SCSI LUN which I think implies these are indeed separate devices.

    P.S.
    /dev/sda: 113.6G (out of those, 113.2G mounted at /userdata)
    /dev/sdb: 4M
    /dev/sdc: 4M
    /dev/sdd: 128M
    /dev/sde: 4G
    /dev/sdf: 1.5 (1G mounted at /var/lib/lxc/android/rootfs/vendor)

@cerberustech If the device is not listed here https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ is will need porting as each device requires it's own specific port. Details here https://forums.ubports.com/topic/2068/halium-first-steps. Also I will move the post for now https://forums.ubports.com/topic/206/will-you-port-to-device-x

@trainailleur Thanks for clarifying that. I guess I should do more research before spreading FUD.☺

No worries. 🙂 I'm not a particular advocate of them, and it's true they have been sloppy with attribution in their sources, but it's an interesting project that seems to have some momentum and perhaps a chance to make alternative Android distros a little more mainstream. Anyone can set up Nextcloud/Owncloud etc. and do the same, but it's a lot of work, and a lot of the populace would never get around to it, so I find the project goals kind of interesting.

To add, I tried to install the stock image from Android -- specifically 6.0.1 (M4B30Z, Dec 2016), found here, which gave some errors and failed to fully install (though it did change the look of the bootloader.) I still was stuck with the UBports Recovery program.

So, I looked around and found the TWRP recovery program for hammerhead (Nexus 5 codename) and successfully installed that. I used it to wipe and format the drive, since all my previous attempts at installations (of either Ubuntu Touch or Android or LineageOS) failed.

Then, I tried once again to install LineageOS, by transferring the file to the phone (see code below) and then using TWRP to install it. This worked.

    mark@debian:~/Downloads/Nexus5/LineageOS$ adb push lineage-14.1-20190301-UNOFFICIAL-hammerhead.zip /sdcard/. lineage-14.1-20190301-UNOFFICIAL-hamme... 4.4 MB/s (329881284 bytes in 71.197s)

I must say that the UBports recovery program needs improvement. It's far inferior to the TWRP recovery program.

Anyway, my issue is solved. I can now reinstall Ubuntu Touch. [edit] I did reinstall it. So, I'm good to go.

I resolved this by moving phone to my ubuntu 18 laptop. i had to add the USB device per this page: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/144966/how-do-i-get-my-device-detected-by-adb-on-linux

Started ubtouch and it's now installing.

@UniSuperBox I have tried it in a USB2 port and it was in a USB2 only port when I ran dmesg -w

The fact that I have switched the USB modules between the devices rules out an obstruction.

It must be a hardware issue past the USB port, or a software issue on the UT device.
