I have thought that you can boot a system from the SD Card as well.

Question: Will libhybris be required for running UT on the PinePhone?
I'm under the impression that libhybris will not be required for running UT on the PinePhone, but maybe I'm wrong. I hope someone will confirm here with certainty.
EDIT: According to this post, libhybris is, indeed, not required for running UT on the PinePhone. Yippie!

Hi all,
For those of you happy to help with development and testing, the PinePhone early batch (Brave Heart) edition are now available on our store. Do note: if you want an end-user ready phone DO NOT buy it. -
@PINE64 Please, can you give more details or clarify this:
« Small numbers (1-3) of stuck or dead pixels are a characteristic of LCD screens. These are normal and should not be considered a defect. »
You mean: every third pixel?
Is it all about the phones or is it just the «fruit of chance » ?
Does this defective pixel characteristic only concern this edition or will it also concern the completed edition in March?
Thank you.

@domubpkm honestly, it doesn't mean anything. I am yet to see a single person complain about dead pixels on the Pinebook / Pro or any other LCD display we've shipped. But its a 1-1000 chance (actual stats) that there will be a dead pixel on a shipped unit, and we cannot control this, and we won't replace units with a dead pixel.

@PINE64 Yeah \o/
I refreshed my browser all morning until could place an order -

I am feeling brave and my OPO has been dropped too many times for comfort, so I decided why the heck not...
It'll be my first new phone since I bought a Nexus 5 back in the stone ages!
-
I just ordered mine. I'm looking forward to have a device that doesn't require me to go through the backup/downgrade/test/upgrade cycle when I'm testing LuneOS. Now I'll have the option to try out UBports, Sailfish, postmarketOS, and whatever else comes along too. Should be fun!
-
i ordered one,( once the website worked.)
i am hoping some of the experienced guys,
will put up screenshots of terminals commands ,and maybe a place to find "stickies" for the best way to do things -
Yay! Ordered!
(And updated the OP with direct links to the order page too.)
This is truly a great day, and unlike the Purism crowdfunding two years ago, we're ordering a product that is real and has software and is nearly ready (things which don't appear to be true of the Librem 5 even now ).
-
@ those who ordered one.
We wait for your hands-on
-
Bit hard for me to explain at this time of year .."another phone, how many do you need ".. has turned up. So I'm going to console myself with getting my OP3 on UT. March is already marked on the calendar very clearly!! though.
On another point might be interesting to know how orders/sales are going/went at some point @PINE64 Hopefully they sell out quickly. -
@PINE64, will it be possible to purchase PinePhone in Russia in March 2020 or order it directly? Are there any known limitations to do that?
-
@makeixo
I ordered one
I have bought cn phones, they are shipping from the same area . (To USA )
My guess :- shipping 22 Nov + 12-15 days for delivery + some times extra delay in customs .
Patience is difficult -
I wanted to ask a question, I do not know if someone has asked before, usually we put to the phones a plastic casing to protect the phone from knocks,
Is there a plastic case for the Pinephone?
or is compatible with a known brand, which we can adapt to the Pinephone.Regards...
-
@Josele13
I have not seen any yet, I like to ,at least ,have a silicon or plastic cover, to protect the corners if dropped . -
I'm pretty sure as an early adopter phone, there will be no case available. If we are lucky the form factor won't change and any cases that show up for the full production batch will fit the braveheart phones too.

As for how many units will be produced after CNY 2020, I cannot predict exact number, but the smallest the factory is willing to do is 10K from what I remember. Obviously that is just the very start. A conservative number for 2020 as is 40-50K, but given the amount of interest I expect there will be much more than that.
With those production figures someone will be offering a case if not PinePone themselves by the time of the main production run.
On those figures, just let it sink in for a bit. Minimum 10k, conservative 40-50k alternative OS phones arriving next year. There will be a lot of interest out there, and we would want UT naturally to be a major part of that figure OS wise. We have very exciting times ahead.
