OTA 3 suggestions: your wanted features

  • A few features and bug fixes i hope will find their way to OTA-3:

    1. Lesser lag when switching between applications and scrolling in the home screen.

    2. Support for multiple users on phone and tablet.

    3. Better battery life for the phone

    4. Support for basic android applications by further developing halium(Long term goal obviously)

  • for the next ota 3 it could be implemented when a contact is added to choose to include it in the phone or sim.

j'ai un Asus fairphone 3 et ma micro SD est reconnue comme mΓ©moire, je verrai bien dans l'ota3 le mΓͺme principe pour avoir plus de place 😜.

I have an Asus fairphone 3 and my micro SD is recognized as memory, I will see well in the ota3 the same principle to have more room 😜.

  • A good gps localisation to use openstreetmap (offline) on my bike !

  • Have the desktop apps container set up by default, out-of-the-box.

    • bug fixes, improve user experience. For instances N5 loses wifi after every reboot
    • working caldav/carddav integration (I could add a calendar but it didn't sync or show calendar entries)
    • replace the ubuntu store with openstore
    • double tap to sleep/awake would be a very nifty feature

On my N5 this has not happened yet. New for r2, or you had this problem on r1 also?

I think for Ubuntu Touch on any phone, if re-asked for password where you have already been connected, just press cancel and manually select your network in the network menu.

This indeed works, but shouldn't be necessary. It annoys the hell out of me. I have a wifi extender at home and each time I move around this exact thing happens. With my old BQ4.5 and official UT it would just seamlessly reconnect.
I don't know if it's an issue with the Nexus 5 or UBports.

I have not tried my phone with a wifi extender, but for that case my little workaround does not seem good enough. πŸ™‚

I don't know either, but i think it could be both a device-specific and a general problem. I have seen that this kind of behavior happens more often on my Nexus 5, but it has also happened on my Nexus 4 with the canonical image.

  • @hans1977se
Also happened before OTA-2. Think there are two different hardware versions of the N5..

Many good proposals, I just want to add -> full disk encryption.

Registered for this forum simply to agree with this post.

Filesystem encryption is the only absent feature I care about. The lack of encryption is the only reason I don't run UBPorts as a daily driver.

Though I've never yet lost a phone or had one stolen, someday I might. Encryption frees me from worries over the sensativity of the data I store on mobile devices.

Would anybody else be interested in the swype keyboard? I used to love that on my meego! πŸ™‚

+1 Bluetooth working with a carkit

  • Could we get any more love for the swype keyboard? πŸ™‚

  • This post is deleted!

  • Sound notifications should have a configuration to repeat the notification each 10 minutes (this time could be also a setting) until checked by the user. It should repeat at least 3 or 4 times, or number of repetitions should be also configurable. I'm missing this feature since my Palm days.

  • After playing with the r2 release there are a few more things that I would like to see in r3:

    • notifications to open or delete dekko emails

    • browser tab size to be increased

    • keyboard to always show when typing

    • tap wake up

    • greater vpn support in specific app

    • regular updates

  • I was thinking about on screen time, date and stats during standby, activated when the device is not in the pocket - based on the proximity sensor. Such a behaviour was present on N9 Meego.

  • I would ask a BIGGER FONT (and more aesthetic layout) for INCOMING CALLS. Without glasses I hardly see who is calling.

@ratte and other ask for caldav and carddav support. Actually it is implemented already. I finally manage to sync with a horde server, there are different threads in "askubuntu", and not all work for me, but finally I got it. I wrote the sync command and eventually launch it from "scriptor" app. The CALENDAR APP is not very good, but I wish it had a SYNC BUTTON, just launching in cli "syncevolution CONFIG_NAME".

CUSTOM SOUNDS FOR NOTIFICATIONS and their REPEATABILITY would be great, just in case we miss to hear it once.

A home scope/screen where the items to show and their size is customizable.

@abernator You could remove "SD card found" notification, from "System Settings --> Notifications" and deselecting the notifications within the "External Drives" app.
