[sold] Two devices with UT for sale / giveaway
Hi folks,
I have to clear out my drawers
The are two UT devices just catching dust so I'll get rid of them:
-
Nexus 5 - device only - battery ok in full working condition - few signs of usage but ok
-
Xperia X - device with charger an original cable - small mark on the frame at the top - USB port is a bit fiddly but works if the plug is put in properly and using the original cable
both with UT installed and working
For devs who contribute to UT or provide apps I would give them away for the shipping costs - if you want to buy me a beer or coffee as well I won't mind a small donation though
For users who want to try UT I'm asking €20 for the nexus and €40 for the Xperia X plus shipping
PM me if interested - pics on demand ...
Location UK or D
Cheers

RE: xperia x sailfish to ubport
I know it's an quite old thread but just in case someone is looking for a solution ...
as I just moved my Xperia X from Sailfish to Ubuntu touch - you just have to:-
Flash the OEM binaries from: https://developer.sony.com/file/download/software-binaries-for-aosp-nougat-android-7-1-kernel-4-4-loire/
unzip, go to the dir and
fastboot flash oem SW_binaries_for_Xperia_AOSP_N_MR1_5.7_r1_v08_loire.img -
run the UBports Installer - tick wipe user data to be on the safe side

[sold]. Pinephone for sale in UK
Hi there,
as my Pinephone mostly resides in the drawer and I'm not a dev, I thought it could serve a better purpose in the hands of someone elseIts the UBPorts Community edition, upgraded too the 3GB mainboard. Its in as-new condition, never left the house, actually never left my desk, I changed the UBPorts back cover in day one to a neutral one - so that's in new and unused condition - and it comes together with the original 2GB mainboard - so two boards included.
I used it just for keeping an eye on the progress of the different distros and it was fun playing around during boring lockdown days, but as I now had to return to normal office days I haven used the phone for weeks and so decided to sell it.
I don't want ridiculous money for it - would rathe prefer it gets in the hands of someone who brings UBPorts forward on this platform
I paid about £230 incl shipping for all (phone, 3GB mainboard, ...) so I'd dare to ask for £100 for the Pinephone with 3GB mainboard, two back covers, protective silicone cover, and the original 2GB mainboard - both boards are flashed with UBPorts with free shipping in the UK - international shipping possible but you have to care and pay for taxes, shipping, fees, ... even to the EU it got quite complicated and expansive now after Brexit..
ask me for pics - viewing and pickup in person possible in Bristol UK
If interested send me a PM
Cheers,

RE: Telegram - some history, and vs. Signal
three things:
-
if you trust the security of an app in regards of your data is totally up to you - I would always prefer open source for sensible communication as, at least, I could check the code - how often people actually checking it after every new commit or at all .... I never checked - neither Signal nor Telegram so I can say nothing about it I didn't get from another source ....
-
If you like the people behind the app, or what the are doing is a complete different thing - that's about social or political correctness, your own agenda, .... so you might say this or that guy doesn't fit my believes and attitudes, so I don't use his or her app - totally up to you - but you can't blame people for providing an anonymous tool for communication that then gets used by groups who are seeking for exactly that - that is out of control as soon as you started it (box of the pandora thing) if you want control it can't be that anonymous and vice versa ...
-
about freedom in forums - I have to second @Diagon here that links to sources should not be censored and marked as spam - even if a moderator is regarding them as biased - you can comment on this but deleting seems not right to me - its not a kids forum that needs adult moderation because the can't decide what's true and what's not ...
@Lakotaubp If you regard this forum as a company forum that only serves the purposes of UBports foundation then go on with rigid moderation rules - if this is a community forum you might want to think that through and allow communication and other points of view - for discussion purposes of course and in the right place - but off topic seems quite ok for off topic, doesn't is?
no offense meant to anyone - it's not my forum and will keep using it for information regardless of how strict it is moderated ...

New Manjaro Beta 3 with Phosh for Pinephone
If someone wants to have a look, Manjaro just released a new image with Phosh that is impressive functional - GPS, camera and more working out of the box. I still don't like Phosh as its far from intuitive and it is lacking of many apps that are optimised for a mobile but coming to performance and things working as they should - just wow ..
There is also a new Alpha with Lomiri but as you might expect an early Alpha isn't as mature as a Beta 3 ...
for more just head over to the Manjaro forum thread

RE: Old Ubuntu touch files Nexus 7 Grouper WiFi
@Kielligzind2 I tried several os and Roms for grouper - only one running smooth enough is the latest available inofficial lineage ROM (more than one year old) - if you want to try luneos there is an old one available but many things are not working as the support for grouper has been abandoned two versions ago...
I'm afraid there won't be any new Roms or OS versions for grouper - it's a pitty because from the hardware side mine is just fine... -
RE: Launcher Modular
Just an idea:
as the app drawer on Unity 8 is lightning fast and handy to slide in from the left - wouldn't it be more convenient to remove the app drawer from Launcher Modular and just leave the start page plus the rss and calendar pages - then the experience would be close to my all-time favourite meego on the Nokia N9 plus a kind of 'widget page' so maybe we could get the best of three worlds and still an unique approach -
RE: CardDav (contacts) support
@obacht said in CardDav (contacts) support:
@poVoq
from what I know you need to run your own server in order to use nextcloud, isn`t that the case?It works with every carddav server - you just need to configure syncevolution via script or terminal - I wrote a howto for ownbay a long time ago which I could provide - you'll 'just' have to adapt the server an credentials to your needs... It's in German but according to your user name ;-)...

RE: Launcher Modular
@syper I really hope you find a solution to keep it working with the coming update to unity - It's a far better user experience compared to a 'standard' app drawer with just the unity side bar (never been a big fan of unity anyway - neither on the desktop)
Keep up your good work and fingers crossed you can solve the problems that might occur -
RE: Is UT efficient for a daily drive ?
@PhoenixLandPirat said in Is UT efficient for a daily drive ?:
@Pookie Sync works for the calendar, only google sync works for contacts unfortunately, hopefully there will be more work on contact sync via nextcloud, because thats important, but it doesnt work atm.
you can sync contacts to nearly everywhere with syncevolution - you'll 'just' have to configure and sync via terminal works with providers and should work with nextcloud
-
RE: What email service can you trust?
I'm using mailbox.org - the office and encryption features are awesome plus it provides cloud storage that can be synced with open exchange - pitty there is no OX client for UT though - you still have to trust them of course ...

RE: Pure maps navigation port
@rinigus works like a charm - thanks a lot for bringing this to UT looking forward to offline support
I know I already asked this abouy the SFOS version a while ago, but will there be any chance you could add the possibility to use alternative vector maps like openandromaps for offline they provide all details I need for hikimg
