It is a script and you can download it from here:
      https://github.com/Winael/ubuntu/blob/master/ubuntuphone/webapps/Reboot/alternate-webapp-generator.zip

It uses a config.cfg file, which is included in the zip.
You just have to put your webapps info in config file and run the script.

Someone should make one simple gui web app creator of this. Script is not very user friendly.

Tried to use ubuntu sdk, but it crashes all the time and couldn't transfer web app to device due to unknown error. Is sdk functionality broken with ubports version?

Same Problem here. Can't flash M10 FHD with Magic Device Tool out of the box. I did not tried the workaround from Alex above. Should I? Or should I wait for an updated MDT flash...?

Mdt never worked for me. Try the terminal way. Do you have ubuntu in it already?

@jamesp yep , well done for being persistant i just re flashed mine , 3 min boot delay, and most likely it will not keep your wifi password in memory.

My wifi password stays in memory.

So that boot delay is known bug? Is anything being done to that?

    • RE: Can't get the M10 FHD to take the flash

Solved the problem by installing latest bq UT with bq:s own flash tool. After that i enabled developer mode and UBports installer detected M10 and this time it started installing it and got to the last point where it was supposed to flash device, but yet again was stuck with "installing Ubuntu update"

But then in bootloader i gave the old command:

      sudo ubuntu-device-flash --server=http://system-image.ubports.com touch --device=frieza
      --channel=15.04/stable --bootstrap --recovery-image=recovery-frieza.img

And UBports finally installed to M10 succesfully.

Here you can download bq firmware and if you don't have Ubuntu version use code: ML000555 to download it.

      http://www.mibqyyo.com/en-download/categorias/aquaris-m10-fhd-ubuntu-edition/

But all is not well! There still is this weird ~3min delay with the splash screen before UBports boots? bq ubuntu booted instantly. Is this a bug in UBports firmware or are there still some weird issues with my M10? Everything else seems to work just fine.

@jamesp, I think you have to run fastboot lock (without oem).

That's the recommended way by Google https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6185381?hl=en

fastboot lock was not recognized command.

Have been trying to flash my M10 FHD. Originally Ubuntu edition and was flashed to latest bq Android. And it is not going well.

None of the three methods work out of the box. All fail for some reason. And instructions above didn't work at all.

First i activated developer mode, which can be done through device info and tap version number seven times, then go back and enter developer menu and enable usb debugging and some other option, can't remember what it was.

Now Ubports installer detected device, but claims, that there is no image available for M10. Then i tried to do the two other methods with no better luck.

Then fastbooted device and gave command fastboot oem unlock After this device refused to boot up and only gave "orange state" warning that device can't be trusted.

Now in fastboot mode Ubports installer started to flash device, after manual selection but got stuck when it tried to push first file into device. two other methods failed also.

Now i installed TWRP and booted to that and wiped everything.
      https://twrp.me/devices/bqaquarism10fhd.html

Now after booting to fastboot Ubports installer finally pushed files into it, but when the device makes final boot into system recovery and says "Installing Ubuntu Update" but nothing happens. Waited for 20 mins and rebooted it, but it's back to "Orange state". Magic device tool failed to install, and i tried the console command and it finished install, but is again stuck at "installing Ubuntu update"

Where do i go from here?

      Edit.

I flashed TWRP again and performed format and flashed recovery image. After that ubports flash went through without problems with this command:

      sudo ubuntu-device-flash --server=http://system-image.ubports.com touch --device=frieza
      --channel=15.04/stable --bootstrap --recovery-image=recovery-frieza.img

But!! I still get that orange state warning. It boots to UT after 3mins of wait!

      https://postimg.org/image/40f88yp4x/

How do i get rid of that then?

      Edit 2.

fastboot oem lock got rid of that message, but now its stuck on bootscreen...

Now i've done it. I thought i'll see how the Flyme works in pro5. Installed Flyme via TWRP and it works fine (except it's piece of crap), but now it locked the phone. Fastboot says (locked, unrooted). I tried fastboot oem unlock says ok, but changes nothing...

How do i unlock it again? This flyme is shit.

This is the one i installed.

I believe this was how it went down the first time i installed UT into this. Solution was to install UT image through TWRP.

The problem you are having is that you have not fully deleted android, and you installed ubuntu touch, then you tried to flash ubports. You are confusing the pjone here. You are going to have to do a full wipe with ubuntu touch then install ubports

Android not fully deleted? How is that possible? I don't see any Android logos when booting.

I do remember that it was a hassle to install UT in it. I tried to install it many times and many ways before it succesfully worked. Few times it booted to UT, but when update was installed it was in bootloop. Don't even remember how i finally managed to get it in there.

So, how do i wipe the remains of the Android if there are any?

Internet browser hardly compares to this. Anyone can make browser and no problems with that, but when it comes to closed proprietary software people are using and software company has no interest to make app for UT so you have to do what you must like it was with wine.

It has everything to compare it to. Maybe you're too young to remember it, but everybody was grabbed by Internet Explorer and ActiveX.

No, it wasn't an easy task to convince people that another way to do things were possible. But they did it.

And yes, people thought they can't live without ActiveX the same way some people think there's no life outside some walled gardens.

No, i member well the rise of internet, and i used Netscape, IE and Opera and Firefox when they came around.

I never encountered ActiveX elsewhere except IP surveillance cameras and one ActiveX one was bought just last year. Don't remember anything else needing that.

Anyways there is shitload of great useful apps that we will never see UT native version and is pretty much impossible to remake or replace.

@jamesp, I'm using Linux since late 90's. In all this time since then, many people have said some similar things to your "Perhaps it wouldn't have been such disaster if some work to run Android apps were taken and people could have used some of the familiar apps they were accustomed to."

One notable example was Internet Explorer. Why develop another browser if everybody is running, and developing for, IE? Well, you know the History. Thanks FOSS developers.

If we want a free (as in freedom), secure, and private phone we have to develop free software options.

Internet browser hardly compares to this. Anyone can make browser and no problems with that, but when it comes to closed proprietary software people are using and software company has no interest to make app for UT so you have to do what you must like it was with wine.

@Flohack said in Web Browser Alternative:

@alternatorr I face a similar problem, but this explains the situation:

Turns out I subscribed to Amazon Prime now. I see some use of Music & Movies for me, lets not argue about if Netflix etc. is better. Lets assume Amazon Prime is a decent service.

I am a heavy Windows user, but for my TV box in the living room I got a Linux thingie with Kubuntu and stuff. Now its like:

      • I CANT watch movies in HD, since there is NO DRM solution existing for Linux. Period.
      • I CANT watch movies in HD on my WINDOWS work PC, since my monitor does not support HDCP. Period.
      • I CANT watch anything useful on a business trip to the US, since I am out of my home country. Just lol.

TO me those streaming services are really flawed, and I sometimes even resort to buying a DVD (I dont own BluRay now) which is cheaper and more reliable than any streaming service, except you are the "mainstream windows user" type. Meh.

Netflix shouln't be too hard to make work, since it already works in Opera and Firefox if you have proper drm libraries. Amazon prime is great if you live in the US or UK. Rest of the world not so much.

VOD services are flawed (HBO most of all) but i love em because it is so simple compared to discs. I have many unopened series boxes that i didn't need because they came to Netflix or others before i got to them. I don't watch tv anymore at all. I get all my entertainment from VOD services and such.

      @RudiH, fellow or follow? 😉

Honest question: Ubuntu is free software, Ubuntu phone was an attempt to develop a free software phone, UBports is the continuation of that effort. Why do you think UBports has to put work in develop proprietary software chunks?

Ubuntu tried and "failed". Perhaps it wouldn't have been such disaster if some work to run Android apps were taken and people could have used some of the familiar apps they were accustomed to.

I wouldn't say it has to, but should. Boys from Sailfish did most of the work and shouldn't be too big of a task to implement it on UT?

I wonder what is KDE Plasma Mobiles take on this matter?

I once flashed it with bq flash tool and accidentally formatted the whole thing and phone lost it's IMEI codes and was unable to use sims. Phone did reqoqnize sims, but sims were not able to register in network. Imeis can be restored through Android. Not sure if it is possible with UT.

@RudiH, as I'm understanding it this conversation can be summarised in these terms: Is it UBports a free software project or are we willing to fill it with proprietary software?

My vote is for a free software project, needless to say.

How can it be bad thing if you have possibility to install Android apps? It's not like UT is going to come preinstalled with shitload of android apps.

You think wine is bad and should not exist, because you don't like to use any of the win software on Linux?

Like it or not, but Whatsapp has become most commonly used messenger and it is pretty much impossible to make people change it to something else like telegram or whatever. Our company has whatsapp groups for every team and pretty much all info is being send through whatsapp.

So whatsapp is one app you pretty much have to use in todays world if you have friends or co-workers 🙂

There are also few other apps i need to use at work to make my life easier.

But android is just awful thing to use not to mention ios.

Having android apps on Touch is a good thing. Don't use them if you don't need em.

My e4.5 started losing sims last summer. They were detected again when i restored factory settings, but after few weeks they were gone again. After some time i installed Android into it, and sims worked for few months but then they faded away and haven't got them back since.

For me it was clearly hardware problem and possibly it is your devices time also 🙂

Phone is in fastboot mode and i have rebooted it several times and replugged it, but no change.

I'm trying to flash with Linux Mint 18.1 64bit.

Phone was originally Android and i flashed it to Ubuntu.

      Version was 0.1.4 Beta
