    • downgrading to Android 10 to install Ubuntu Touch

      Hi

I have gotten my hands on a OnePlus Nord N100 (BE83BA) that I was hoping to install UBports on, but unfortunately it has been "upgraded" to Android 11.

It seems the image in the UBports Installer is only compatible with Android 10, but I have difficulties figuring out how to downgrade it.

I did already unlock the OEM and enable ADB/USB-debugging but still cannot get root-access.

I am on Linux (debian) on my laptop, but it keeps saying that the .zip file with the downgrade cannot be transfered because it doesn't exist whenever I try to drag it to the device.

I did try to drag/drop via Windows as well, but that machine can't even see the root directory.

Please help me root this device.

    • Advice on android apk's on m10 x306x

I found a tablet for my 6-year old daughter and have installed Ubuntu Touch on it, after having read about the possibility of running Android APK's on it under Waydroid, since the Danish national Television publish some quite nice apps with cozy games etc.

However I'm having some troubles with a type of apk with the filetype .xapk when I follow these steps that I 've found online:

      waydroid init

      cd Downloads/

waydroid install app 'DR Ramasjang KREA_0.89.APKPure.xapk'

It doesn't seem to work. All I get after running this is a message of available commands for waydroid.

Does anyone know if those xapk's are compatible in any way with waydroid, or is there another/better way to do this?

    • RE: Any Danish users on the line?

@Ida_ Thanks 🙂 I mainly use Matrix, but can maybe join via the bridge. Do you have a room-adress to share?

    • Any Danish users on the line?

      Hi

I am coming back to Ubuntu Touch after a handful of years away.

I would really like to connect with other Danish users to maybe organize some translation-work and local(ish) community around UBports.

So if you want to join in, please ping here 🙂

      @PhoenixLandPirat

I've had no problems logging in to fluffychat, but no luck with UM. What am I supposed to write in the Homeserver URL? I have tried to just leave what is there already, but to no avail. It just gets stuck in the log-in rotating animation.
Would love to get videocall working!!

    • RE: Welcome to the UBports community! Introduce yourself here!

Hi, I'm a danish librarian with a background in comparative literature, and a place in my heart for Free Software. I've been using UT on my nexus 5 for a little more than a year now, and have recently made the switch to OpO. Never looked back. I simply love the community around this OS and seeing the apps and functions grow.
Planning on giving the N5 to a friend of mine, that I'm trying to get hooked on UT too.

If he doesn't want it, I'll mail it to some tech-media in Denmark, along with a letter of introduction - to get UBports some mention.

Seeing as there is a marketing group - what about an activism group?, or does that fall under the same category?

I also really love the 'eco'/'green' aspect of this OS - and most FLOSS in general - that it enables you to buy used hardware and give it new life. For instance, my OpO is made out of 100% reused materials, since I bought it second hand.

Huge thanks to everyone involved in this magnificent OS!

    • RE: Need your opinion about ubport

I use UT on a OnePlus 1 and am very pleased with it. the bluetooth is not tip-top for calls in my car, but other than that, it works perfectly.
I had in on a Nexus 5 before and can really feel the hardware upgrade. The voluntary and collective approach to the OS, with forums like this one etc. is also really friendly and appealing to me.

not much on the tech, I'm afraid, just my personal experience.

Couldn't sign up for patreon, but found Krille on Liberapay (https://liberapay.com/KrilleChritzelius/). Set up a small donation there. I don't know you personally, but dig the stuff you've made.

    • RE: Call for an encrypted matrix voice/video call app

I came across this post while looking for precisely this, some info on how far along fluffychat/UT matrix videocalls were along. I've just gotten my 73 year old mother to jump on the Matrix (via Riot.im) because of the excellent video-call quality there. Grandchildren are the perfect bounty in matters like this.
Great to see that it's in the works. I guess I have to head over to patreon, then.
      cheers for great apps, everyone!

    • RE: Have you told your local/national paper about UBports?

@hummlbach I have told the Danish paper "Information" about it. But I don't see the problem. I only think that more people telling the same papers about it will make the papers in question take the "story" more serious.

    • Have you told your local/national paper about UBports?

I have done that today. Not the big newspaper (that will probably be tomorrow) but the magazine that my alternative-encouraging bank publishes. Why? because they have a reach to people that might be interested in the idea of a collectively run OS, that is an alternative to Google and iOS.

Just a simple thought - but one so obvious that others might have forgotten about it. When we publish stories like this in IT magazines, there is a risk of preaching to the choir, or to the lions. Neither will get the word spread.

And it seems to me that there is a good story to be told here, from a journalistic perspective, about how the project originally was dropped, but then revived and now even has moved beyond the place where it was left off.

That might help create the community buzz that will make more "laypeople" (such as myself) aware of the benefits of Ubuntu Touch and in turn, push some of the hardware manufacturers (such as FP) to think more actively about joining forces with UBports.

      Any thoughts?

    • RE: "The" Bluetooth Thread

@crito said in "The" Bluetooth Thread:

Using 16.04/rc installed yesterday on Nexus 5, no major Bluetooth problems for me. Sometimes takes a couple tries to connect but seems to use high fidelity profile by default and switches output as soon as connected. Music player works really well with my 20+ GB MP3 collection too. Shows album covers from folder.jpg rather than demanding every song have the same image embeded, for example.

Funny - I am running the same, also on a nexus5 - but my Bluetooth can't seem to discover any devices at all... Tried it with my radio yesterday, and it didn't show up on the list. Even if both were on and no other devices were using Bluetoooth.

    • RE: Nexus 5 Battery charging is extremely slow and inconsistent in progress

I'm having similar problems in my Nexus 5 running 16.04rc - I tried using a different charger - the one from my Huawei p9 (checked that it had same output voltage) - and now it seems to be better.
