@projectmoon Thanks. I had thought all /etc was mounted rw. I see that is not the case. I mounted the filesystem rw and edited the file. It did allow the encryption. BUT, I think that may have broke the installation. While encrypting, it crashed the OS. Now after a reboot, I enter my password and it keeps asking me to setup the phone, like a fresh install. DON'T do what I just did unless you want to loose data! So I'm going to reinstall with a wipe.

@Er.Pe Probably the solved problem isn't really solved. To be honest, I am not sure, if texts now are coming in without any failure. There seem to be still messages sent, but not shown on my device. Although I am not able to quantify the amount, because I receive text messages (SMS) not every day. I will give notice, if I should get to know more details.

@rocket2nfinity Thank you for a possible solution, but bummer on battery drain ! I need to research what effects of 24/7 charging would be on battery life. Could do that while phone in home office, then Waydroid off for mobility / cell use.

@ChromiumOS-Guy Thank You. I might follow that up when I have a bit more time & energy. I bought an easy-to-unlock BE2026 via Ebay, which arrived a couple days ago, and got UT installed. I still have a BE2028 to try to unlock. Not worth a huge effort now, though.

I think he's saying he wants to forward SMS from his primary phone to his UT phone - Which I know you can do with VoIP providers, but don't know any cell carriers that will do that, with the exception of T-Mobile. They used to have a feature for that. Don't know if they do now.

@barry00 You can, but the problem with the T-Mobile or Verizon variant from North America is unlocking the bootloader. For some stupid reason on our part, you need to get a token from OnePlus to unlock the bootloader, which you don't have to at the moment in the rest of the world.

Thank everyone for their thoughts. I have not changed network providers recently or done anything else which would seem to stand out. No new app installs from the store or anything. I'll keep looking for a way to troubleshoot this and report back if it is found.

@arubislander That happened to me with the Nord N100 also from Metro PCS. luklly i found a modified BE81AA that was already patched and ready to go. if you're serious you can look in different platforms maybe youll get lucky too and find a way around these restrictions. belive me there's always a way. You just have to do a little research. Oh and before you start any porting or flashing make sure to always keep a backup of your original firmware, to antisipate incase something goes wrong. You'll be able to reverse it without a problem.

@mafman97 You can install Windows to a USB thumb drive and run MSMtool from that There is also a linux method somewhere in the OP 5 or 6 forums, but results are variable.

The same thing happened to my OnePlus Nord N10. It got stuck at the bootloader screen after I upgraded from Ubuntu Touch 20.04 to 24.04. I solved it as @MrT10001 suggested: Started Ubuntu Touch in recovery mode Enabled Fastboot and restarted the devices. Installed Ubuntu Touch 24.04 via the installer desktop application. After that, the problem was fixed, and my device is now running 24.04 without any problems.

@messayisto Thanks, Mate. So it needed two attempts to get it working again. I first tried the 0.5.1 Focal for UT 24.04 which also did not work. I ended up with the one for UT 20.04 which now runs smoothly.

@NoodleCollie, do you have any information as to whether VoLTE is working after you got done installing ubuntu-touch on your 1+n10-5g? I'm asking because the official info on the this topic seems a liitle ambiguous...

Now I could unlock the bootloader. Windows 11 Pro didn't work. But Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon works: Open Terminal. adb devices adb reboot bootloader fastboot oem unlock (works) ubport installer worked. Thank you for your help!

@lukasfixit Did you have the correct version of Android installed before you started the installation?
