Phone allowed me to get the 64 digit number to send them to request the token. The token request page took a couple tries (I mis-typed one of the 64 characters, and the page complained, etc). So, I thought it was simply a matter of waiting 7 days. Then I read that some people tried contacting tech support & got quick positive result, so I did that on 8th day. Then waited a day, replied, waited a day. etc. Thought I might be chatting with AI system (or overloaded human), since it asked for info I had already sent, more than once.

@bgriffis Next time you need maps, use one of the sensor apps first to get lock (Messwerk, etc). Should lock a lot faster.

Thank everyone for their thoughts. I have not changed network providers recently or done anything else which would seem to stand out. No new app installs from the store or anything. I'll keep looking for a way to troubleshoot this and report back if it is found.

@arubislander That happened to me with the Nord N100 also from Metro PCS. luklly i found a modified BE81AA that was already patched and ready to go. if you're serious you can look in different platforms maybe youll get lucky too and find a way around these restrictions. belive me there's always a way. You just have to do a little research. Oh and before you start any porting or flashing make sure to always keep a backup of your original firmware, to antisipate incase something goes wrong. You'll be able to reverse it without a problem.

@mafman97 You can install Windows to a USB thumb drive and run MSMtool from that There is also a linux method somewhere in the OP 5 or 6 forums, but results are variable.

The same thing happened to my OnePlus Nord N10. It got stuck at the bootloader screen after I upgraded from Ubuntu Touch 20.04 to 24.04. I solved it as @MrT10001 suggested: Started Ubuntu Touch in recovery mode Enabled Fastboot and restarted the devices. Installed Ubuntu Touch 24.04 via the installer desktop application. After that, the problem was fixed, and my device is now running 24.04 without any problems.

@messayisto Thanks, Mate. So it needed two attempts to get it working again. I first tried the 0.5.1 Focal for UT 24.04 which also did not work. I ended up with the one for UT 20.04 which now runs smoothly.

@NoodleCollie, do you have any information as to whether VoLTE is working after you got done installing ubuntu-touch on your 1+n10-5g? I'm asking because the official info on the this topic seems a liitle ambiguous...

Now I could unlock the bootloader. Windows 11 Pro didn't work. But Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon works: Open Terminal. adb devices adb reboot bootloader fastboot oem unlock (works) ubport installer worked. Thank you for your help!

@lukasfixit Did you have the correct version of Android installed before you started the installation?

SUCCESS! Hard to find out what's been the essential step. I just booted OxygenOs 10.5.7 this time with a SIM-card inserted and connected to WiFi immediately. Surprisingly now I could enable OEM-unlocking and after that "fastboot oem unlocked" without any issues. UT 20.04 is running, so the device will be my daily companion from now on. Thank you so much, mates! Didn't find out to mark that thread as solved.

@Ida_ Thank you for pointing me to the thread regarding VoLTE success stories. Unfortunately, my carrier is AT&T, which apparently is stricter in what it allows than some other carriers. For example, the only U.S. success I see in that thread is using a Xiaomi phone, which is not in AT&T's compatible phones list. I appreciate your further search suggestion too. Maybe that will lead me to an appreciable solution in the future, though for now I assume the Ubuntu Touch "Supported Devices" list includes all that are really prepared up to the stable standard I need.

@MrT10001 Thanks for the input. That makes sense, especially now that Apple is playing along with RCS. I imagine the proportion of messages sent by SMS/MMS protocols is dropping dramatically. Perhaps I'll try a different carrier.
